  • Shaking table tests were peformed to evaluate the subgrade reaction of ground according to the build-up of pore water pressure. Model pile was installed in the sand ground. The acceleration of the model ground, the pore water pressure build-up and displacement of pile were recorded by measuring devices. Subgrade reaction approach based on Winker soil model was applied to obtain the modulus of the horizontal subgrade reaction. The results of analysis show that the reduction factor of the subgrade reaction due to pore pressure increase is about 1 and the horizontal subgrade reaction of liquefied ground is not influenced by the stiffness of pile, a ground acceleration and the intial ground density.

  • In soft ground, There are many case that Bridge Abutment is constructed after soil improvement in order to reduce the Negative Friction and prevent from Lateral Soil movements of Bridge Abutment. That section of Horizontal Subgrade Reaction $Modulus(K_h)$ derivation has much important mean due to Horizontal Stability of Abutment. It is come from behavior of Pile and Soil within depth of $1/\beta$. After Soil Improvement, however, If Bridge Abutment was construction, It's not impossible to carry out Field Investigation After Ground of Improved at design stage. Therefore, It's not able to derivate Horizontal Subgrade Reaction $Modulus(K_h)$. Therefore, in this case of study compare with Field Construction Test Data in order to derivation of Horizontal Subgrade Reaction $Modulus(K_h)$ and Reliability in terms of ground of Bridge Abutment by Sand Compaction Pile(SCP) during design of The 2nd Bridge Connection Road of Incheon International Airport. In this paper determine, Soil Property(The rate of strength increase, $c_u$ so on) and Horizontal Subgrade Reaction $Modulus(K_h)$ after soil improvement at design stage.

  • For achieving stability and economic construction at a retaining wall construction site, quantitative parameters of soil properties with excavation steps coincides with the actual field site. The main parameters of retaining wall design such as deformation modulus and modulus of horizontal subgrade reaction are common with N value of standard penetration test. Therefore, this study is compared and analyzed about the mutual relationship which is SPT, PBT and PMT for overcoming inconsistency of the existing retaining wall design generalized. In addition, modulus of horizontal subgrade reaction and reduction factor with excavation steps are proposed through back analysis of elasto-plasticity and finite element method with actual field monitoring data. Finally, it is purpose that parameter errors are reduced for applying effective retaining wall design at a construction small and medium-sized.

  • Even though decision of coefficient of horizontal subgrade reaction is important in analysis for pile under lateral load, the behavior of pile under lateral loading is estimated differently due to using established suggestion. Therefore this study estimates coefficient of horizontal subgrade reaction by using Chang's method or numerical inverse analysis method with the result of lateral load test. Then this study investigates the adequacy and reliability for coefficient of horizontal subgrade reaction. The analytical results of coefficient of horizontal subgrade reaction with lateral load test showed that coefficient of horizontal subgrade reaction with Chang's method was underestimated as compared with inverse analysis. Deformation modulus of foundation by Standard Specifications for Highway Bridges and Eo${\fallingdotseq}$1,400~1,600N showed similar range like range of coefficient of horizontal subgrade reaction with lateral load test.

  • Recently, deep excavation for high-rise buildings occurs frequently to accommodate the rapidly increasing population in urban area. The stability of the earth retaining structures for deep excavation becomes more critical. The behavior of the earth retaining structures should be accurately predicted in a design stage, but the predicted behavior is different from the measured data due to uncertain soil properties and problems in construction. In this study the back-analysis using Powell's optimization theory was performed to match the measured deflection and results obtained from back-analysis were presented.

  • The dynamic behavior of a single pile was investigated by using analytical and numerical studies. The focus of this study was to develop the dynamic p-y curve of a pile for pseudo-static analysis considering the shear wave velocity of the soil by using three-dimensional numerical analyses. Numerical analyses were conducted for a single pile in dry sand under changing conditions such as the shear wave velocity of the soil and the acceleration amplitudes. The proposed dynamic p-y curve is a shape of hyperbolic function that was developed to take into account the influence of the shear wave velocity of soil. The applicability of pseudo-static analysis using the proposed dynamic p-y curve shows good agreement with the general trends observed by dynamic analysis. Therefore, the proposed dynamic p-y curve represents practical improvements for the seismic design of piles.

  • Purpose: In this study, an analysis of the differences between the elastoplastic analysis and the numerical analysis and a study of the design ground constant recalculation method to derive similar trends in the analysis results were conducted. Method: The relational expression between the ground reaction force coefficient and the ground deformation coefficient at the time when the wall displacement becomes the same according to shallow excavation and deep excavation was derived. Result: Based on the measurement results, reverse analysis was performed to re-calculate the ground properties suitable for the site ground, and as a result of comparing and verifying the wall displacement using the derived formula and the literature formula, the proposed formula showed the most similar value. Conclusion: If the proposed formula is used, it will be helpful in practice because it is possible to infer the most similar ground properties to the actual at the time of design.

  • The use of pile reinforcement is considered as one of the most promising techniques for improving load carrying capacity of piles in offshore area. In this study, to consider the horizontal and uplift bearing capacity of submerged breakwater bearing pile, exclusive analysis on load-transfer behaviour of pile was conducted. First of all, check the reinforcing effect from the three-dimensional finite element method, and estimate load transfer curve (ground reaction force). Based on these results, the reinforcing effect was quantified by estimating the coefficients of horizontal and uplift reinforcement of reinforced piles. Load transfer function with consideration of the reinforcing effect was proposed from estimated coefficients. A comparison of the analysis using the proposed load transfer function with three-dimensional finite element analysis has resulted that the proposed load transfer function is displaying good accuracy of predicting behavior of the load transfer between the pile and soil reinforcement. Interpretation of the submerged structure by applying a load transfer function considering the reinforcing effect, has shown that the reinforced pile's shear, bending moment and displacement are less than that of non-reinforced piles, while the subgrade reaction modulus arises greater. Thus, it is expected to be relatively cost effective in terms of design.
