Study on the fire resistance of castellated composite beams with ortho-hexagonal holes and different beam-end constraints

  • In order to study the fire resistance of castellated composite beams with ortho-hexagonal holes and different beam-end restraints, temperature rise tests with constant load were conducted on full-scale castellated composite beams with ortho-hexagonal holes and hinge or rigid joint constraints to investigate the temperature distribution, displacement changes and failure patterns of castellated composite beams with two different beam-end constraints during the whole course of fire. The results show that (1) During the fire, the axial pressure and horizontal expansion deformation generated in the rigid joint constrained composite beam were larger than those in the hinge joint constrained castellated composite beam, and their maximum horizontal expansion displacements were 30.2 mm and 17.8 mm, respectively. (2) After the fire, the cracks on the slab surface of the castellated composite beam with rigid joint constraint were more complicated than hinge restraint, and the failure more serious; the lower flange and web at the ends of the castellated steal beams with hinge and rigid joint constraint produced serious local buckling, and the angles of the ortho-hexagonal holes at the support cracked; the welds at both ends of the castellated composite beam with rigid joint constraint cracked. (3) Based on the simplified calculation method of solid-web composite beam, considering the effect of holes on the web, this paper calculated the axial force and displacement of the beam-end constrained castellated composite beams under fire. The calculation results agreed well with the test results.

고탄성 응력흡수층의 반사균열 저항특성 연구 (Behavior of High-elastic Stress Absorbing Interlayer for Reflective Cracking Resistance)

  • 본 연구는 노후 콘크리트 포장의 아스팔트 덧씌우기에서 발생하는 반사균열을 억제하기 위한 방안으로 노후 콘크리트와 아스팔트 표층 사이에 응력을 흡수할 수 있는 중간층 혼합물을 개발하기 위하여 수행되었다. 고탄성 응력흡수층은 휨 변형과 수평변형으로 인하여 발생하는 균열응력을 흡수 또는 분산 시킬 수 있는 탄성과 유연성, 균일성 및 불투수성이 요구된다. 본 연구로부터 국외제품을 모델로 국산 바인더를 개발 하였으며 이를 사용하여 제작된 혼합물 시편은 시방규격에 만족하였다. 기존 덧씌우기 공법과 비교한 시험으로부터 고탄성 응력흡수 중간층이 설치된 경우 설치되지 않은 경우에 비하여 전단파괴수명과 수평변위저항도는 약 4배가 증가되었으며 표층재료의 선정에 따라 전단파괴수명은 5배, 수평변위저항도는 9배가 증가되어 고탄성 응력흡수 중간층이 반사균열 억제에 우수한 것으로 본 연구에 나타났다.

수치해석을 이용한 말뚝이 결합된 블록식방파제의 수평저항력에 관한 연구 (A Study of Lateral Resistance of Block Breakwater Combined with Piles)

  • 본 연구는 말뚝이 결합된 블록식방파제에 대하여 수평하중 재하에 따른 블록과 말뚝의 거동을 파악하기 위하여 FEM 3차원 수치해석을 실시하였다. 지반구성모델은 Mohr-Coulomb 모델을 향상시킨 Modified Mohr Coulomb 모델을 적용하였다. 말뚝이 블록에만 관입된 경우, 사석층(H = 4.29 cm)까지 근입된 경우, 원지반속에 근입된 2H, 3H, 4H의 경우에 검토하였다. 실내모형실험 결과와 수치해석를 비교한 결과, 수평저항력-변위가 서로 유사한 거동을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 말뚝의 근입깊이가 1H~ 2H까지는 말뚝이 회전거동을 보이고, 3H~4H의 경우에는 휨거동 양상을 보이는 것으로 해석되었다. 말뚝의 근입깊이가 3H 이상인 경우에는 말뚝이 휨거동을 보이므로 말뚝이 블록식방파제의 수평저항력에 크게 기여한다고 볼 수 있다. 본 연구 결과는 실제 크기 구조물 설계를 위한 다양한 수치해석 시 자료로 활용이 있을 것이다.

  • This paper shows the accuracy of 61.8% rule which is based on the fall-of-potential method in field measurement of earth resistances, and proposes the measurement method which is applicable to the industries. This paper also finds the minimum distance to obtain the horizontal position in the earth resistance curves, and Proposes the standard form for measurement of earth resistance using the fall-of-Potential method.

  • Grounding resistance is the basic performance indicator of grounding electrodes and the resistance has been calculated by simple equations, which is based on the assumption of uniform soil model. In this paper, tower grounding resistance is calculated assuming horizontally 2 layered soil model using finite element analysis method. A simple grouding design graph has been resulted from the calculation results.

  • Recently, the calculation of horizontal bearing capacity of piles foundation has been considered very important for earthquake or wind resistant design in Korea. This study deals with the lateral resistance of PHC pile instead of vertical capacity for earthquake resistant design as well as wind. As case study, the prediction values were compared with measured ones based on ASTM. During this research, Matlock & Reese, Davisson & Gill, Broms and Chang's methods were selected in calculating prediction of lateral resistance of PHC piles. In decomposed granite and clayey soils, The result showed that prediction values proposed by Matlock & Reese(Davisson & Gill), Chang and Broms were smaller values than real values. four proposed methods by Matlock & Reese(Davisson & Gill) and Chang based on lateral deflection and Broms by ultimate lateral resistance turned out valid in view of engineering practice.

Interfacial shear resistance of angle shear connectors welded to concrete filled U-shaped CFS beam

  • For multi-story structural systems, Korean steel industry has fostered development of a steel-concrete composite beam. Configuration of the composite beam is characterized by steel angle shear connectors welded to a U-shaped cold formed-steel beam. Effects of shear connector orientation and spacing were studied to evaluate current application of the angle shear connector design equation in AC495. For the study, interfacial shear resistance behavior was investigated by conducting 24 push-out tests and attuned using unreinforced push-out specimens. Interfacial shear to horizontal slip response was reported along with corresponding failure patterns. Pure shear connector strength was also evaluated by excluding concrete shear contribution, which was estimated in relation to steel beam-slab interface separation or interfacial crack width.

  • 정적관입저항 또는 선단지지말뚝의 선단지지력을 해석함에 있어서는 유효수직응력이 기준음력으로 사용되어 왔다. 그러나 정적관입저항은 유효수직응력보다 원위치 유효수평응력에 관계된다는 것이 많은 실험연구결과로부터 보고 되었다. 이와같은 문제점을 규명하기 위하여 기 보고된 실험결과를 다시 분석하였으며 실험실에서의 관입시험이 실시되었다. 연구결과 정적관입저항은 유효수직 응력과 유효수평응력 모두에 영향을 받는 것으로 나타나고 있으며 해석시에는 평균주응력이 기준응력으로 사용되어야 함을 결론 지을 수 있었다.

Seismic resistance of dry stone arches under in-plane seismic loading

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the seismic resistance of dry stone arches under in-plane seismic loading. For that purpose, several numerical analyses were performed using the combined finite-discrete element method (FDEM). Twelve types of arches with different ratios of a rise at the mid-span to the span, different thicknesses of stone blocks and different numbers of stone blocks in the arch were subjected to an incremental dynamic analysis based on excitation from three real horizontal and vertical ground motions. The minimum value of the failure peak ground acceleration that caused the collapse of the arch was adopted as a measure of the seismic resistance. In this study, the collapse mechanisms of each type of stone arch, as well as the influence of the geometry of stone blocks and stone arches on the seismic resistance of structures were observed. The conclusions obtained on the basis of the performed numerical analyses can be used as guidelines for the design of dry stone arches.

교류 피복 아크 용접에 있어서 아크 안정성의 정량적 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Quantitative Evaluation of Arc Stability in AC SMAW)

  • The shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) by AC power source was performed to evaluate the arc stability by arc monitoring and analysing. In this study, the arc stability index was evaluated quantitatively by using he coefficient of resistance variation for welding time. This coefficient was obtained for the long time (20sec.) by analysing the waveforms of welding current, voltage and resistance. The coefficient was applied to indicate numerically the variation level of arc length and the degree of arc extinction. Using the coefficient of resistance variation in practical welding, the arc stability of the high titanium oxide electrode (KS E4313) turned out to be better than that of the low hydrogen electrode (KS E4316). In evaluating the skill level of welders by the coefficient, the horizontal fillet weaving welding became clear to be very discriminating because the higher level welder could weave in keeping constant arc length, but the lower level welder showed the characteristics of weaving with the unstable arc length. And it was confirmed that the welding defects as blow holes was formed when the arc stability index were high.
