  • Forced convective boiling heat transfer coefficients were predicted for an annular flow inside a horizontal tube for pure refrigerants and nonazeotropic binary refrigerant mixtures. The heat transfer coefficients were calculated based on the turbulent temperature profile in liquid film and vapor core considering the composition difference in vapor and liquid phases, and the nonlinearity in mixing rules for the calculation of mixture properties. The heat transfer coefficients of pure refrigerants were estimated within a standard deviation of 14% compared with available experimental data. For nonazeotropic binary refrigerant mixtures, prediction of the heat transfer coefficients was made with a standard deviation of 18%. The heat transfer coefficients of refrigerant mixtures were lower than linearly interpolated values calculated from the heat transfer coefficients of pure refrigerants. This degradation was represented by several factors such as the difference between the liquid and the overall compositions, the conductivity ratio and the viscosity ratio of both components in refrigerant mixtures. The temperature change due to the concentration gradient was a major factor for the heat transfer degradation and the mass flux itself at the interface had a minor effect.

  • The northeastern Pacific and eastern Bering Sea supports large and divers finfish and shellfish compelxes. The North Pacific fishing grounds are largest fish production total 30.89 percent of the world in 1983. Recent action by the around countries extending their fisheies jurisdiction to 200 mile has provided a new environment. The new approch to fisheries management has resulted in an arormous expansion in tile demand for scientific information. These are no longer limited to biological concerns. Emphasis has been focused recently on the need to understand the economic, social, politics and philosophy characteristics of a fishing and how they will be affected by management decisions. The horizontal management and portfolio management for fisheries has increased interest in complex biological models and the coupling of these models with economic, politics and phyisophy components. Successful completion of this task will require and expanded understanding of oceanographic, biological, economic, social, politics and philosophic process associated with fisheries. Particular attention should be devoted to acquiring information an data processing for Korean trawl fishery, stock assessment in the areas. The need for international collaboration in management must be stressed. Some northeast Pacific and eastern Bering Sea fish stock migrate over long distances and political boundaries. Further, nearly all the fish stocks are harvested by several nations. The features require cooperation and coordination of research activities. The horizontal management will be made a way these activities for the around countries in the sea. Strongly, tile proposed again, Pacific International Council for Exploration of the Seas, PICES will interest between all users of the area's fisheries.

  • The cooling heat transfer coefficient of $CO_2$(R-744) in a horizontal tube was investigated experimentally. The experiments were conducted without oil in a closed refrigerant loop which was driven by a magnetic gear pump. The main components of the refrigerant loop are a receiver, a variable-speed pump. a mass flow meter. a pre-heater and gas cooler(test section). The test section consists of a smooth, horizontal stainless steel tube of 7.75 mm inner diameter. The experiments were conducted at mass flux of 200 to $400\;kg/m^{2}s$ and the inlet cooling pressure of 7.5 MPa to 10.0 MPa. The variation of heat transfer coefficient tends to decrease as cooling pressure of $CO_2$ increases. The heat transfer coefficient with respect to mass flux increases as mass flux increases. The pressure drop of $CO_2$ in the gas cooler shows a relatively good agreement with that predicted by Blasius's correlation. The local heat transfer coefficient of $CO_2$ agrees well with the correlation by Bringer-Smith.

  • The evaporation heat transfer coefficient of $CO_2$(R-744) in a horizontal tube was investigated experimentally. The main components or the refrigerant loop are a receiver, a variable-speed pump, a mass flow meter, a pre-heater and evaporator(test section). The test section consists of a smooth, horizontal stainless steel tube of inner diameter of 4.57 mm. The experiments were conducted at mass flux of 200 to $500\;kg/m^2s$, saturation temperature of -5 to $5^{\circ}C$, and heat flux of 10 to $40\;kW/m^2$. The test results showed the heat transfer of $CO_2$ has a greater effect on nucleate boiling more than convective boiling. Mass flux of $CO_2$ does not effect nucleate boiling too much. In comparison with test results and existing correlations, the best fit of the present experimental data is obtained with the correlation of Jung et al. But existing correlations failed to predict the evaporation heat transfer coefficient of $CO_2$, therefore, it is necessary to develope reliable and accurate predictions determining the evaporation heat transfer coefficient of $CO_2$ in a horizontal tube.

  • Expert system is a practical application part of the artificial intelligence and can be generally described as a computer-based system designed to simulate the knowledge and reasoning of a human expert, and to make that knowledge conveniently available to other people in a useful way. Expert systems consist of three major components, knowledge base, inference engine and user interface. In this paper, it is aimed to construct a prototype system to design the horizontal-typed pressure vessel. To do this, a representative artificial programming language, Turbo Prolog, was employed, and the knowledge representation was mainly done by the production rule such as "If(condition), than (action)" style and by the predicate logic. In the developed system, it was quite easy to represent the knowledge of "If(condition), then (action)"style and by the predicate logic. In the developed system, it was quite easy to represent the knowledge of "If(condition). then(action)" style and the various table-like data. It was also effective to represent the graphics. Though this expert system is by now small and incomplete, it is possible to expand it to a larger and refined system later.rger and refined system later.

The main components of the refrigerant loop are a receiver, a variable-speed pump, a mass flow meter, a pre-heater and evaporator(test section). The test section was made of a horizontal stainless steel tube with the inner diameter of 4.57 mm, and length of 4 m. The experiments were conducted at mass flux of 200 to 700 kg/$m^2s$, saturation temperature of 0$^{circ}C$ to 20$^{circ}C$, and heat flux of 10 to 30 kW/$m^2$. The test results showed the evaporation heat transfer of $CO_2$ has great effect on more nucleate boiling than convective boiling. The evaporation heat transfer coefficients of $CO_2$ are highly dependent on the vapor quality, heat flux and saturation temperature. In comparison with test results and existing correlations, correlations failed to predict the evaporation heat transfer coefficient of $CO_2$, therefore, it is necessary to develop reliable and accurate predictions determining the evaporation heat transfer coefficient of $CO_2$ in a horizontal tube.

  • This thesis proposes a face detection algorithm using the color and edge informations in color image. The proposed algorithm segments skin color by Cb and Cr in YCbCr coordinates. Then face candidate regions are made after morphological filtering and labeling. For the regions, the Sobel vortical operation and horizontal projection are performed in the Y luminance components. The peak value indicates the eye location. Similarly, the chin location is detected by the Sobel horizontal operation and horizontal projection. The computer simulation shows that the proposed method gains similar detection rates of previous method and prevent facial region from including neck by detection of chin.

However lung et al.'s correlation showed a good agreement with the experimental data. The evaporation pressure drop of $CO_2$ increases with increasing mass flux and decreasing saturation temperature. When comparison between the experimental pressure drop and existing correlations. Existing correlations failed to predict the evaporation pressure drop of $CO_2$.

  • This paper presents the results of a set of wind tunnel tests carried out to examine wind-induced overall structural loads on rectangular medium-rise buildings. Emphasis was directed towards torsion and its correlation with peak shear forces in transverse and longitudinal directions. Two building models with the same horizontal dimensions but different gabled-roof angles ($0^{\circ}C$ and $45^{\circ}C$) were tested at different full-scale equivalent eave heights (20, 30, 40, 50, and 60 m) in open terrain exposure for all wind directions (every $15^{\circ}C$). Wind-induced pressures were integrated over building surfaces and results were obtained for along-wind force, across-wind force, and torsional moment. Maximum wind force component was given along with the other simultaneously-observed wind force components normalized by the overall peak. The study found that for flat-roofed buildings maximum torsion for winds in transverse direction is associated with 80% of the overall shear force perpendicular to the longer horizontal building dimension; and 45% of the maximum shear occurs perpendicular to the smaller horizontal building dimension. Comparison of the wind tunnel results with current torsion provisions in the American wind standard, the Canadian and European wind codes demonstrate significant discrepancies. Suggested load combination factors were introduced aiming at an adequate evaluation of wind load effects on rectangular medium-rise buildings.

  • A fast multiple object motion detection method using periodogram has been proposed. Each frame is projected to vertical and horizontal directions, and then temporal FFT is applied. A line in two dimensional frequency domain indicates velocity. To estimate the velocity of an object, we intergrate along a line which passes through the origin in frequency domain. If a frame contains multiple moving objects, multiple peaks are detected corresponding to the velocity of each object. After pairing these peaks, we can determine the velocities of an object. In the proposal method we can easily pair horizontal and vertical velocity components efficiently with simple computation by combining projections in 45$^{\circ}$ and 135 $^{\circ}$ directions in addition to the vertical and horizontal direction.
