The beneficial effects derived from consuming natural antioxidants may not depend on the action of an individual antioxidant, but rather on the concerted action of several antioxidants naturally present. The aim of this study was to determine the concentrations and combinations of antioxidants that can produce synergistic effects (SyEs). Quantification of the lipoperoxyl radical scavenging capacity of antioxidants was carried out in a homogeneous model system where the free radicals were produced by the oxidation of methyl linoleate, initiated by the 2,2'-azobis (2,4-dimethylvaleronitrile). The greatest SyE (2.21, p<0.05) was seen in mixtures of all 4 antioxidants when used with concentrations of 15 ${\mu}M$ lycopene, 2.5 ${\mu}M$ vitamin E, 0.16 ${\mu}M$ vitamin C, and 10 ${\mu}M$${\beta}-carotene$. Doubling the vitamin E concentration from 2.5 to 5.0 ${\mu}M$ in the mixture with all 4 antioxidant reduced the SyE to 1.69 (p<0.05). Other combinations produced synergistic effects that ranged from 1.28 to 1.41.
A new approach to produce nanostructured WC/Co composite powders by a mechanochemical process was made to improve the mechanical properties of advanced hardmetals. Homogeneous spherical W-Co salt powders were made by spray drying of aqueous solution from ammonium metatungstate($(NH_4)_6(H_2W_{12}O_{40})\cdo4H_2O$,AMT) and cobalt nitrate hexahydrate (Co(NO$_3$)$_2$.6$H_2O$). spray dried W-Co salt powders were calcined for 1 hr at $700^{\circ}C$ in atmosphere of air. The oxide powder was mixed with carbon black by ball milling and this mixture was heated with various temperatures and times in $H_2$. The $WO_3/CoWO_4$ composite oxide powders were obtained by calcinations at $700^{\circ}C$. The primary particle size of W/Co composite oxide powders by SEM was 100 nm. The reduction/carburization time decreased with increasing temperatures and carbon additions. The average size of WC particle carburized at $800^{\circ}C$ by TEM was smaller than 50 nm.
This study was performed to provide the information of the combustion characteristics of n-butanol fuel in accordance with the n-heptane fuel mixing ratio. The closed homogeneous reactor model was used for the analysis. The analysis conditions were set to 800 K of the initial temperature, 20 atm of initial pressure and 1.0 of equivalence ratio. The results of analysis were compared in terms of combustion temperature, combustion pressure, CO, Soot and $NO_X$ emissions. The results of combustion and exhaust emission characteristics showed that ignition delay was decreased and the combustion temperature was increased as the n-heptane mixing ratio was increased. Also, the carbon monoxide(CO) was slightly decreased however, the soot and nitrogen oxides($NO_X$) increased a little in accordance with the n-heptane fuel mixing ratio. In addition, the pressure difference was almost the same in any conditions.

The electrical conductive mechanism and temperature dependence of electrical resistivity of $\alpha-SiC-ZrB_2$ composites with $ZrB_2$ contents were investigated. The electrical resistivity of hot-pressed composites was measured by the Pauw method form $25^{\circ} to 700^{\circ}C$. The electrical resistivity of the composites follow the electrical conduction model for a homogeneous mixture of two kind of particles with different conductivity. Also, the electrical resistivity versus temperature curves indicate the formation of local chains of $ZrB_2$ particles. In case of $\alpha-SiC-ZrB_2$ composites containing above 39vol.% $ZrB_2$ showed positive temperature coefficient resistance(PTCR), whereas the electrical resistivity of $\alpha-SiC-21vol.% ZrB_2$ showed negative temperature coefficient resistance(NTCR).

Eosinophilic granuloma is a common hypersensitive inflammatory skin disease in cats, and rare in dogs and horses. The skin biopsies of 5 years old female Cocker spaniel and 2 years old female mixed dog had the clinical signs of skin nodules with alopecia were submitted for diagnosis. Solitary skin nodules and papillary nodules were presented on the left external ear and back of Cocker spaniel and on the external ear of mixed dog, respectively. Histopathologically, epidermis of skin showed mild to severe hyperplasia with multifocal ulceration. Small to large irregular, brightly eosinophilic foci with degenerating eosinophils and homogeneous degenerated collagens were existed in the dermis of both ear and back skin. Typical 'flame figures', a mixture of degenerated collagen and degranulated eosinophils, were observed in both cases. Based on the histopathologic findings and special staining characters, 2 cases were diagnosed as canine eosinophilic granuloma. This is the first report for the eosinophilic granuloma of dogs in Korea.
Organic matter in rice-paddy soils exercises two antagonistic effects on the rice plant under water-logged conditions in growing season in the course of its decomposition: It liberates mineral nutrients and promotes soil fertility. On the other hand, however, it demands oxygen for its decay and therefore competes with rice roots for this element, when applied in large quantity of fresh status. For the practical end of rice culture, it is most desirable that these two effects should not contend with each other. To determine the proper content of organic materials to be applied, the influences of varied amounts of a homogeneous mixture of dried green manure, ranging from 0 to 20g/pot (1/20,000 tanbo), upon hte growth of rice was investigated in a sand culture. Labeled phosphorus fertilizer was also used in the form of KH232PO4 to evaluate the availability of this nutrient in the soil. Under the present experimental conditions, green mature seems to have influenced little on the growth of rice, except on number of grains produced and grains/straw ratio. Moreover, no sympton of growth inhibition is obsrvable even by the largest amount of its application. The available phosphorus, as estimated by A-value, appears to have increased, as the amount of organic materials applied increases. In view of the fact that pure sand instead of a paddy soil is used in this culture, the present results would not be directly applicable to practical rice farming. Besides, the estimated A-value is in need of further study, since it varies according to method of application, as suggested by Nishigki et. al. (1958).
The HCCI engines have been known with high efficiency and low pollution and can be actualized as the new internal combustion engines. However, As for(??) the ignition and combustion depend strongly on the oxidation reaction of the fuel, so it is difficult to control auto-ignition timing and combustion duration. Purpose of this paper is creating the database for development of multi-dimensional simulation and investigating the influence of different molecular structure. In this research, the effect of n-heptane mole ratio in fuel (XnH) on the ignition delay from homogeneous charge compression ignition(HCCI) has been investigated experimentally. By varying the XnH, it was possible to ascertain whether or not XnH is the main resource of ignition delay. Additionally, the information on equivalence ratio for varying XnH was obtained. The tests were performed on a RCM (Rapid Compression Machine) fueled with n-heptane and iso-octane. The results showed that decreasing XnH (100, 30, 20, 10,0), the ignition delays of low temperature reaction (tL) and high temperature reaction (tH) is longer. And the temperature of reaction increases by about 30K. n-heptane partial equivalence ratio (fnH) affect on tL.and TL. When ${\phi}$nH was increased as a certain value, tL was decreased and TL was increased.
$Ce_{0.8}Gd_{0.2}O_{1.9}$(GDC20) powder was synthesized by milling of $CeO_2$ slurry and Gd oxalate precipitation. The mixture of $CeO_2$ powder and Gd precipitates calcined at $600^{\circ}C$ for 2 h showed the particle size distribution similar to that of $CeO_2$ powder, which had been milled during the synthesis process. Attrition milling of the calcined powder with an average particle size of $0.36\;{\mu}m$ for 2 h resulted in a decrease in the particle size to $0.24\;{\mu}m$. Although the milled powder consisted of small particles(<$1\;{\mu}m$), a small amount of fine platy $Gd_2O_3$ particles, which had been survived in the milling process, was observed. Sintering of the powder compacts for 4 h showed relative densities of 80.7% at $1300^{\circ}C$ and 97% at $1400^{\circ}C$, respectively. Densification was found to almost complete at $1500^{\circ}C$, resulting in a dense and homogeneous microstructure with a relative density of 99.5%.
An anorthite-based traditional ceramic was developed by adding secondary flux materials to a mixture of kaolin and $CaCO_3$ in order to minimize the deformation during the sintering process. Three flux materials, feldspar, talc, and frit, were evaluated by comparison with two commercial chinaware bodies. Anorthite body with glass frit exhibited poor firing shrinkage. Poor mechanical properties (modulus of rupture, MOR < 30 MPa) was observed for the bodies with feldspar. Another anorthite body was formulated with wollastonite as a Ca source. The fired body showed a MOR of 81 MPa and a shrinkage rate of 6% when wollastonite was added up to 50%. In the XRD analysis, the phase ratio between anorthite and quartz was the highest in the specimen with 50% wollastonite addition. Homogeneous and relatively small closed pores were observed in the microstructural analysis. These results suggest that a ceramic body formulated with 50% kaolin and 50% wollastonite can be fired at $1200^{\circ}C$ with a 6% firing shrinkage rate, giving rise to minimal sintering deformation.

In this work, chemical solution derived Ca-doped zirconia fiber has been prepared by using calcium- and zirconium-naphthenate. Fibrous $ZrO_2$-CaO was drawn from a sticky mixture. Dried gel fibers were finally annealed at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in argon. 91 mol%$ZrO_2$-9 mol%CaO fiber consisted of tetragonal, monoclinic and $CaZrO_3$ phases after annealing at $1000^{\circ}C$. On the other hand, samples annealed at $500^{\circ}C$ consisted of almost tetragonal single phase. Homogeneous fibers surface at $500^{\circ}C$ became rougher after $1000^{\circ}C$-annealing. The sample annealed at $1000^{\circ}C$ with relatively rough surface structure showed a high Calcium phocphate forming ability.
