  • Since V-2, the first ballistic missile was developed during world war II, ballistic missile threat is increasing consistently due to science technology progress. United States is constructing and operating BMDS(Ballistic Missile Defense System) to defend homeland and allies. Various Interceptors will try intercept ballistic missile detected by sensors at boost phase, midcourse phase or terminal phase. THAAD(Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) is intercept system that intercept ballistic missile at high altitude of terminal phase. In this paper, concept of U.S. BMDS, and operational and technical characteristics of THAAD is surveyed and described.

  • According to Homeland Security Act of 2002, DHS in USA is comprehensively responsible for execution of protection methods on the public and private sectors against cyber attack for USA cyber crisis management. There are different laws and organizations according to the sector that is the public, the private, CII(Critical Information Infrastructure, or Non-CII in Korea. In this paper, we show the unified cyber crisis management of USA makes korea realize the importance to integration and systematization for the national cyber crisis management system.

  • Critical infrastructure resilience has been integrated in critical infrastructure protection in US after Department of Homeland Security recognized that protection, in isolation, is a brittle strategy. Here "resilience" is the system's ability to efficiently reduce both the magnitude and the duration of systemic impacts after hazards, and quantitatively assessed as a resilience cost. The resilience cost is the sum of systemic impacts and recovery efforts, and many case studies on resilience costs show that the recovery effort should be included in resilience assessment. This paper explains how the resilience cost is defined and quantified with a case study.

  • The development of explosive detection technology in a security environment and fear of terrorism at homeland and abroad has been one of the most important issues. Moreover, research works on the explosive detection are highly required to achieve domestic production technology due to the implementation of aviation security performance certification system. Traditionally, explosives are detected by using classical chemical analyses. However, in the view of high sensitivity, rapid analysis, miniaturization and portability electrochemical methods are considered as promising. Most of electrochemical explosive detection technologies are developed in USA, China, Israel, etc. This review highlights the principle and research trend of electrochemical explosive detection technologies carried out overseas in addition to the research direction for future exploration.

  • Recent advances in digital holography in the far-infrared region of the spectrum have demonstrated the potential use of digital holography in homeland security as a tool to observe hostile environments in which smoke, flames, and dust impair vision. However, to make this application practical, it is necessary to simplify the optical setup. Here, we show an off-axis, self-reference scheme that spills the reference beam out from the object beam itself and avoids the need for a complex interferometric arrangement. We demonstrate that this scheme allows the reconstruction of high-quality holograms of objects captured under visible as well as far-infrared light exposure. This could pave the way to the industrialization of holographic systems to enable users to see through fire. Moreover, the quantitative nature of the holographic signal is preserved. Thus, the reported results demonstrate the possibility to use this setup for optical metrology.

  • The concept of the "diaspora" has established itself as one of the major topics in literary and cultural studies in the first two decades of the twenty-first century. Contemporary studies on this topic tend to regard is diaspora as either as a liberatory space unmoored from a repressive national identity-formation or as a condition pregnant with challenges to the authority of a nation-state or nationalism. Viewed from within the social realities of multi-ethnic nations, however, diaspora has an alternative, darker face. For, reproduced within the concept itself, is that of a hierarchy: this hierarchy is one in which a dominant group seeks to repress the same ethnic members for their failure to conform. What is more, the cultural difference, which diaspora is believed to preserve, lends the dominant group an excuse to re-ethnicize its immigrants, subsuming them under the same extra-national category as that of the people or homeland they have left behind. By analyzing a range of historical and theoretical models, this study offers itself as an attempt to clarify the current, and often confusing, understandings of the condition of diaspora. By delving into its political potentials and discussing their possible socio-political ramifications, the study suggests that researchers of diaspora need to anchor themselves in historicity lest they end up "speaking for" their chosen subjects.

  • This research was undertaken to examine Masan's regional food service industry, which experienced drastic changes due to liberation and the Korean war. Analysis of restaurant advertisements in 'Masanilbo' revealed a total of 92 restaurants during this period. The numbers of restaurants classified by the time periods are 18 (1946 to 1950), 27 (1951 to 1955), 17 (1956 to 1960), and 30 (1961 to 1966). 'Gomguk' gained popularity in the early 1900s and became a speciality of Masan, resulting in the appearance of numerous Gomguk restaurant advertisements. After independence, Japanese foods were predominant in Masan since the population was used to eating Japanese dishes during the colonial era. Moreover, there was a major influence of the people who returned to the homeland. Masan was the place for refugees during the 6.25 war, resulting in the popularity of 'Naengmyeon'; advertisements largely displayed 'Pyeongyangnaengmyeon' during the early 1950s, and 'Hamheungnaengmyeon' during the early 1960s. Western food advertisements usually introduced 'Dongaseu' and 'Kareraiseu', which were deeply influenced by Japanese culture. These various contributions resulted in alterations in the food menu, such as the rise of fusion food which is not bound to any nation, spread of Japanese food culture, and popularity of 'Naengmyeon'.

  • Nguyễn Nhật Ánh and Yoshimoto Banana are authors from two different literary movements, cultures, and countries. Their works are all best-sellers and have received many prestigious awards. Comparing their works from the perspective of shoujo manga, we can see that there are many similarities between them. Regarding the concept of composition, they all want to create works that are accessible to the majority of the public. Therefore, they choose topics which are close and attractive to mass readers as well as simple style, characters, literary devices, artistic space and time that are famous in shoujo - a popular art form of Japan. However, the ideological content in the works of both is not explicit and simple, but expresses the eternal feelings and values of humanity such as love for people, love for the homeland, country, reflecting the depths of both the conscious and the subconscious as well as profound aesthetic and philosophical values, profound aesthetic and philosophical values. Their works present the trend of interference between popular culture and elite literature. We can draw lessons for young writers, cultural managers and a wide audience from the success of these two writers.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing depression among married Vietnamese immigrant women living in Korea. Methods: This study was a retrospective review of the dataset from the Korean 2018 National Multicultural Family Survey. The data were analyzed using the Rao-Scott x2 test and multiple logistic regression using complex samples analysis. Results: The proportion of married Vietnamese immigrant women subjects in Korea who experienced depression was 27.7%. The factors affecting depression were age, length of stay in Korea, living area, economic status, difficulties in using medical care, difficulties faced during their stay in Korea and Korean language skills relationship with spouse and parents-in-law marital conflicts, cultural differences, their experience of social discrimination, life satisfaction, and meeting with friends from their homeland. Conclusion: The findings in this study indicate that the prevention of depression in married immigrant women in Korea could be aided by acculturation programs that deal with the relationships with their spouses and social supports.

  • From public insecurity, access of wealth, alteration of population structure, and changes of security recognition, physical security has been continuously developed and changed. In these days, typical systems for physical security are unmanned security system using telephone network and security equipment, image recognition system using DVR and camera, and access control system by finger print recognition and RFID cards. However, physical security system is broadening its domain towards ICT based convergence with networked camera, biometrics, individual authentication, and LBS services. This paper proposes main technical trends and various security convergences for future physical security services by classifying the security categories into 3 parts; Individual security for personal protection, IT Convergence for large buildings, and Homeland Security for omni-directional security.
