The participants were 231 university students. The results were as follows. Firstly, male students were more psychologically separated from their mothers than female students. When living with parents, students were more psychologically separated from their fathers than their mothers. Secondly, the more independent students were from psychological conflict with their mothers, the less negative strategies they used in conflicts during dating. The closer female students were with their mothers, the more positive conflict solving strategies they used. Thirdly, the students who were freer from conflict with their mothers experienced higher satisfaction with emotional communication when dating. The data were collected from fourth, fifth and sixth grade students of elementary students in Kimhae-city by a self-administered questionnaire. Frequency distributions, Cronbach's Alpha, Pearson's correlation analysis, regression analyses, and path analysis were analyzed by SPSS Windows. According to the regression model for the allowance management behaviors, the significant variables were the child's sex, term of receiving allowances, recognition of the allowance amount before receipt, parents' guidance before using allowances, parent-child communication about consumption, and parents' mediation of mass media. On the other hand, in the regression model for the buying behaviors, the satisfaction of the allowance amount, parents' guidance before using allowances, the amount of watching TV, parent-child communication about consumption, and allowance management behaviors were significant. The path model showed the child's sex, term of receiving allowances, recognition of the allowance amount before receipt, and parents' mediation of mass media indirectly affected the buying behaviors. In addition, the satisfaction of the allowance amount and the amount of watching 1V directly affected the buying behaviors. Moreover, parents' guidance before using allowances and parent-child communication about consumption had a direct effect and an indirect effect through the allowance management behaviors on the buying behaviors. • The purpose of this research is to explore the self-concept and school life adjustment based on group classification of attachment types with parents, teachers and peer groups among 6th grade students at elementary schools. The findings suggest that attachment is highest with one's mothers, followed by peer groups, fathers and teachers. This is in accordance with the overall tendencies of children to be attached to their parents, teachers, peer groups, according to their self-concept and school life adjustment. In addition, the tendency of attachment with parents, teachers, and peer groups according to gender is not meaningful except for peer-group affection between boys and girls. Furthermore, an integrated attachment type is ranked highest, followed by parents attachment type, peer attachment type, and unstable attachment type, in order based on cluster analysis. Finally, each attachment group among students showed meaningful differences in socio-demographic variables, self-concept, and school life adjustment.

  • This research tested the path model which examined the direct and indirect effects of family violence experience on perpetration of dating violence among college students. Two family violence variables such as witnessing parents' marital violence and being abused by parent were the exogeneous variables in the path model, while the mediated variables were consisted of (1) the social-learning-theory-derived variables such as acceptance of violence, positive outcome expectations of using violence, and aggressive conflict-coping behavior, and (2) control-theory-derived variables such as attachment, belief, and commitment. Data were from self-administered questionnaires completed by 332 male and 469 female students selected by stratified quota sampling method. The path analysis was done for males and females separately, since females reported significantly higher degree of dating violence than males. Results of the path analysis showed that first, for both males and females, being abused by parents directly and indirectly influenced dating violence, while witnessing parents' marital violence did not have effect on dating violence either directly or indirectly. Second, for male students, acceptance of violence and conflict coping behavior found to be the mediated variables in the effect of being abused by parents on dating violence. Third, for females, a control-theory-derived variable of belief as well as all three social learning theory-derived variables mediated the influence of being abused by parents on dating violence.

  • This study aimed to identify ways to implement pre-parent education for adolescents in regular classes at school. This was achieved by investigating whether the contents of the 2015 revised curriculum high-school technology and home economics textbooks reflected the goals of pre-parent education. The main texts and activities of chapters with 'preparing for parenthood' in the title from 12 high-school technology and home economics education textbooks were analyzed with respect to the three pre-parent education goals of developing perceptions and attitudes toward parenthood, learning parenting knowledge and skills, and reinforcing parental capacity. The results were as follows. First, textbook contents and activities reflected the three goals of pre-parent education in a balanced manner. Second, both the contents and activities of textbooks tried to motivate students to perceive parenthood and parenting through reflection on their relationship with their own parents. Third, because the textbooks encouraged students to consider parenthood and parenting, they acknowledged the importance of undertaking pre-parent education to reinforce their parental capacities. Using such textbooks in regular technology and home economics classes is expected to provide students with an opportunity to consider parenthood and shape their perceptions and attitudes accordingly, thereby allowing adolescents to prepare themselves for parenthood and become good parents.
