Comparison of Quality of Life of Middle aged Women and Men (중년 여성과 남성의 삶의 질 비교)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the quality of life(QOL) between middle-aged women and men. Method: In this study, we surveyed 482 middle-aged women and men living in Seoul aged between 40 and 64. Data were analyzed t-test, ${\chi}^2$-test, and 2-way ANOVA. Results: There was no significant difference between satisfaction and importance of the life of middle-aged women and men of the overall. However, while the case of middle-aged women showed a significant difference in the emotional support from people who are not family members, middle-aged men showed significant differences between the importance and satisfaction of the life with spouse, the ability to take care of family responsibilities, sex life, energy(fatigue), personal appearance, and pain. In addition, the overall quality of life scores showed no gender difference between the middle-aged women and men but in the quality of life both genders, the family area of the sub-area showed high scores. Conclusion: It is suggested that further repetitive studies for middle-aged women and men are needed by using the same tool of this study and various health promotion programs based on the result of this study should be developed for middle-aged.

The Quality of Life Among Middle-aged Men and Women (중년기 남녀의 삶의 질에 관한연구I)

  • This study was designed to investigate the quality of life among middle-aged men and women in Seoul. The primary purposes were to describe perceived life quality of the middle-aged and to examine the relationship among the selected variables. The data for this study were collected utilizing multistage area random sampling method 524 respondents were analyzed using SPSS PC+ statistical package. The major findings are as follows: 1. The level of life quality perceived by middle-aged was 4.7 out of 7 and relatively normally distributed. 2. The quality of life of middle-aged were differed by occupation family income amount of saving home ownership religion and residence. 3. The correlates of life quality were family life satisfaction job satisfaction financial satisfaction health satisfaction leisure satisfaction and stress. 4. Among the variables family life satisfaction was the strongest predictor variable. Thirty six percent of the total variances were explained by family life atisfaction job satisfaction stress health satisfaction and financial satisfaction.

A Trend analysis of the teacher recruitment examination for secondary Home Economics subject - From 2009 to 2016 - (중등 가정교과 임용시험 문항의 출제 경향 분석 - 2009학년도부터 2016학년도까지 -)

  • The aim of this research is to analyze the items of the Secondary School Teacher's Placement Test(SSTPT) which was submitted for 8 years from 2009 to 2016 according to' detailed criteria of SSTPT'. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, according to the analysis of items which were covered for the last 8 years, it was found that there was little difference between the evaluation area, the evaluation content elements, and the questionnaires since the questions presented in the 12 items of 12 evaluation areas and 42 of 43 evaluation contents. Second, each of the items in the 8-year questionnaire are as follows. Home economics and education 93 times (32.7%), dietary life 43 times (15.2%), family life 41 times (14.4%), clothing 41 times (14.4%), housing life 34 times (12.0%), consumer life 31 times (11.3%). This shows that there is not a large difference between the basic curriculum subjects of the content education and the ratio of question items. Third, the content elements of evaluation categorized by frequency of questionnaires for 8 years are as follows. Home economics and education mainly covers 'the methodology of teaching and learning,' Family life, 'human development,' Consumer life, 'the understanding of household economics and financial management' and 'consumer decision making,' Dietary life, 'cooking principle and practice' and 'management of dietary life,' Clothing life, 'clothing and household goods production,' Housing life, 'the understanding if residential living.' Based on these results, all the areas set in the evaluation area and content should be treated equally, and qualitative item analysis is necessary from a microscopic point of view.

An Analysis on the Content Elements of Housing Area in Middle School Technology·Home Economics Textbooks by 2009 Revised Curriculum (2009 개정 중학교 기술·가정 교과서 주생활영역의 내용요소 분석)

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze content elements of Housing area in 2013 middle school Technology Home Economics textbooks 1 and 2, total of 22 according to 2009 revised curriculum. The analysis method was content analysis, focusing on contents of main text, tables & figures, reading material, and activity materials by their content elements. This research will contribute in obtaining suggestion for the post curriculum/textbook development and helping teachers to perform a lesson. The results are as follows. First, Housing area included 1 to 4 content elements per each units, from 2 chapters and 6 units. The content elements stated in Home economics curriculum were total of 16 which consists of 'the meaning of housing,' 'housing types,' 'family forms,' 'family life style cycle,' 'life style,' 'neighboring environment,' 'co-living values,' 'air environment,' 'heat environment,' 'light environment,' 'acoustic environment,' 'space division,' 'circulation', 'effective use of space,' and 'sustainable dwelling practice.' All of these components are dealt with in every textbooks. Second, the numbers of content elements provided in each textbooks were the same, however they showed difference in their contextual aspect. Some contents need supplemental material for their lacking content element. Others need proper understanding of the concept because some showed different contents from the appropriate content elements. Third, repetitions in content elements were observed, the contents of 'co-living values' in textbook 1 and 'sustainable dwelling practice' in textbook 2 were similar in terms of eco-friendly housing, co-housing and universal housing. These two content elements should be merged as one next curriculum, or should be stated together in one subunit.

Family Life Issues of middle Aged Apartment-Residents in Seoul : Focused on Economic Life (서울시 아파트 거주 중년기 가정의 생활실태와 문제(II) : 경제생활을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the economic status and problems of the middle aged apartment-residents in Seoul as a part of collaborative study on family issues of them. The sampling households were divided into Kangnam and Kangbuk area according to their residential location and upper-middle and lower-middle groups according the size of the apartment unit. The analysis of this research was specially focused on the latter division. The data were collected from 307 fulltime housewives with at least one child in a middle or high school. This data were gathered from the structured questionnaire. The major findings of this research were as follows: 1. The significant differences between upper-middle and lower-middle groups were showed in such areas as household income, monthly living expenses, household assets and savings. 2. The most serious economic problem was the private education expenses in both groups. 3. The economic satisfaction of the group in the Kangbuk area was a little higher than the group in Kangnam area.

The Effects of a Community Psychiatric Nursing Program on the Rehabilitation of Home-based Long-term Psychiatric Patients

  • In the last few years, psychiatric nurse practitioners have shown a growing an interest in community psychosocial rehabilitation, caring for chronic psychiatric patients as case manager in South Korea. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a community psychiatric rehabilitation nursing program on self-care activity and quality of life and to suggest this program as an effective nursing intervention in a group of chronic home-based psychiatric patients in a poor town. A nonequivalent control group, pretest-posttest design was used. Of the twenty women that started the program, sixteen finished it. The data were analyzed by the Wilcoxon Rank Sum Test. The program included the process of case management which consisted of four phases: the first was an active case finding and pre-test, the second was home visiting and contacted by phone. the third was group activity therapy of 12 sessions, and the fourth phase was terminal and post-test. The effects of the program were assessed by quality of life and self-care activity. The quality of life and the self-care activity, especially, area of nutrition. elimination, dressing. leisure activity, and follow-up clinic visiting showed greater improvement than those of the control group. The results of this study suggest that this program was effective in improving the quality of life of chronic home-based psychiatric patients.

A Study on the Importance of Contents in Middle-School Home-Economics (중학교 가정과 교육내용의 중요성에 관한 연구 -전북지역을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the important contents from teachers’, parents’and students’view points based on the sixth Home Economics textbook contents, to apply these results at school settings and to provide the materials as a basis for the next curriculum revision. Subjects were 59 teachers, 253 parents, and 389 students from 3 cities and 5 counties in CholaBukDo. A questionnaire which was made by the researcher was used as an instrument for this study. The results are as follows: Of 32 contents on Family life subarea, all the teachers, the parents and the students put the emphasis on sex such as pregnancy, purity, sex-ethics, etc. This result means that middle-school students emphasized the sexual identity formation and this was also a common concern about adolescents in our society. Of 37 contents of Managing home resource and Consumer life subarea, teachers though the environment pollution is an important subject and parents and students thought finding a method to conserve good environment were more important. This result reflects their concern on the environment. Of 49 contents on Dietary life, teachers and parents emphasized “the importance of nutritive elements”which is basic on their dietary life and students were more interested in “adolescence and growth and development among adolescents’nutritional characteristics and problems”which is more related to their current life. Of 40 contents on Clothing life subarea, while teachers put the emphasis on the method how they can buy ready-made clothes, parents and students wanted them to teach what kind of clothes are suitable for themselves. Of 18 contents on Residing life subarea, teachers emphasized the importance of ventilation for adjusting the room environment and students were more interested in the effective use of the residing space. By finding out what kinds of Home-economics contents are important from the view point of teachers, parents and students, this study can be a useful resource for the next curriculum revision and for selecting contents of a new-coming text book. However, restricted sampling must be considered and further studies which cover the whole area might be needed.

A Study on married new generation's life style consciousness and behavior towards home management (신세대 기혼남녀의 라이프스타일, 가정경영의식 및 행동)

  • The purposes of this study were to examine correlation between the two variables home maenaegement consciousnsess and home management behavior identify the diversity of home management behavior of married new generation and empirically test the variables which affect home management behavior. The major results are as follows: 1. There was a positive correlation between home management consciousness and home management behavior in all of the subarea family relation home management and consumer and financial management. 2. The home management behavior of married new generation men was more modernized and more rational in the area of family relation and home management than those of the counterpart. 3. Among the variables home management consciousness variable was most important in home management behavior. No gender differences were found.

  • This study examines family relationship of married women in Chonbuk area as a part of study on family life. Data were collected by questionaires. The sample consisted of 1142 married women. The major findings were summarized as follows: Chonbuk married women was marital relationship as the important family relationship. The family value orientions showed traditional value orientions. The family solidarity of Chonbuk married women mark medium level. We expect this program to be helpful in marital relationship for the strong family.

The Drinking Life of Youngsters aged between 20 and 30 - Focused on the University Students and the Workers in Chongju Area - (20대의 음주생활에 관한 연구 - 청주지역 대학생과 직장인을 대상으로 -)

  • Nowadays drunken drive and other problems related to drinking have been increased in our society. Those problems, we believe, are just the outcomes of undesirable drinking life. To investigate the drinking life of youngsters aged between 20 and 30, 271 university students and workers in Chongju area were surveyed, focusing on attitude toward drinking, drinking behavior and drinking habits. The results are as follows: 1. Youngsters, regardless of their sex, have generous attitude toward drinking. 2. Youngsters usually drink to get along with their friends or fellow workers. 3. The university students drink alone more frequently than the workers do. And to drink alone occurs when they feel mental stress or face difficulties. 4. The university students and the workers do not differ in terms of average drinking frequency per month, the number of pubs they stop by per drinking occasion, and the king of liquor they take. 5. Above 80% of the car owners have experienced the drinking drive. And they tend to smoke more while drinking.
