Recent paradigm in technology shifts from object-based technology to environment-based technology. Issue here is interaction among human, machines, and environment. This requires new interpretations for the space among them. Holistic interactions based on “Mom (embodiment)” suggest a good starting point for this endeavor. The past, present, future of technology are presented in terms of technology’s fundamental virtue: “humanizing technology” or “technology serving human.” Interactive technology initiative (ITI) is an interdisciplinary research group to search for the proper technology and the proper way of implementing technology: “interactive technology” or “soft engineering.” Some experimental activities conducted by ITI are presented in this organized session, “Interactive Technology.” Metatechnology, soft engineering, “Mom (embodiment),” holistic interactions, tangible space, and ubiquitous computing are key concepts in interactive technology.

A new paradigm of technology, based on the overall interactions of technology, humans and environment through Korperlichkeit(corporeality or philosophy of Mom), is explored. Parallelism based on holism and embodiment, and relative interactions based on correspondence and interrelationships, are the key ideas in the proposed paradigm. Biological information processing systems much resemble the key ideas of interactive technology. Robots could be easily implemented from this evolutionary engineering approach.

Landscape ecology is an emerging interdisciplinary ecology field to understand the holistic human and natural systems on the basis of concept and database obtained from pure ecology. Landscape ecology is an integrated ecology widely available for environmental science such as nature conservation and sustainable land-use planning. It is also a practical study as an applied ecology to restore and to manage local environment. Landscape ecological study is realized by embodiment of human disturbance system which is rigorously extending on natural system. Considering Korean status without landscape ecological studies, we briefly reviewed establishing process, study goal and methodology of landscape ecology as well as the related several concepts through current landscape ecological studies in the world. We hope that this paper will be helpful to ecologists having interest in landscape ecology.

본 연구는 제3세대 혁신정책의 주요 특성으로 나타나는 총체적 혁신정책을 살펴보고 실제 구현되는 모습을 핀란드와 우리나라의 사례를 통해 살펴보았다. 양 국가 모두 혁신정책의 영역이 경제발전이라는 단선적인 목표에서 벗어나 지속 가능한 발전, 균형발전, 삶의 질 제고 등 사회 전반의 변화와 관련된 것으로 외연을 확장하고 있다. 또한 기술혁신을 국정 운영의 중심에 두고, 인력, 교육, 지역 등 관련 정책을 새롭게 재배열하는 모습도 함께 이루어지고 있다. 특히 우리나라는 참여정부 출범이후 과학기술중심사회 구축이 국정 과제로 등장하면서 제3세대 혁신 정책의 맹아적 모습이 나타나고 있다. 반면 실제 구현 정도와 모습은 양 국가 간 차이가 있다. 핀란드는 북유럽 국가의 제도적 특성인 전형적인 코포라티즘의 전통으로 인해 전환의 장을 마련하고 추진하는 "공론의 장"을 활성화시켜 왔다. 정부의 지원 체계 또한 특정 부처의 개별 업무가 아니라 임무를 중심으로 공동의 프로그램과 수단을 개발 집행함으로써 정책의 실효성을 높여 왔다. 우리나라는 혁신 정책의 개념은 앞서 있으나, 실제 정책을 추진하거나 일하는 방식은 아직도 발전국가 시대의 틀을 유지하고 있다. 또한 전환 전반이 하향식으로 이루어지면서, 민간부문과 시민사회의 능동적인 참여가 부족했으며, 이로 인해 전환을 시도하려는 다양한 노력이 아직 탄력을 받지 못하고 있다.
