  • NOS education through the history of science is regarded effective. However, science teaching has been criticized for not considering the interest of the learners enough and providing the context of learning themes that hinder the understanding of NOS. This study intends to convey the NOS element through the rich context of storytelling. The theme of the story is the history of continental drift, in which, the debate of many scientists and Wegener's creativity are prominent. Of the various media that deliver storytelling, the most powerful medium that leads to personal immersion is computer games, and among many kinds of games, the main genre of storytelling is role-playing games (RPGs). We developed the science history role-playing game (SHRPG) focusing on continental drift. The game development procedure followed Kim's 4F process (2017), which consists of the Figure Out, Focus, Fun Design, and Finalize. The story was constructed based on the NOS elements of Lederman et al. (2002), namely creativity and imagination demand, subjectivity, socio-cultural personality and tentativeness, which are all present in the story of the continental drift theory. The mechanics and rules of the RPG included quests, rewards, quizzes, NOS scores, and rankings. In the final phase of development, the game developed was pilot tested four times. The results of the tests showed that students' understanding of NOS through SHRPG has increased, especially in the creativity domain. The students' satisfaction with the fun, sympathy, and immersion during the game was very high.

  • The 21st century world has experienced all-around changes from the 4th industrial revolution. In this developmental changes, artificial intelligence is at the heart, with data science adopting certain scientific methods and tools on data. It is necessary to investigate on the logic lying underneath the methods and tools. We look at the origins of logic, deduction and induction, and scientific methods, together with mathematical induction, probabilistic method and data science, and their meaning.

  • The paper demonstrates how the Islamic governments in the Islamic history derived the authority for regulations and laws from the Qur'ān and the Sunna (sayings of the Prophet). These two laws are sovereign over public policy. Then, it shows the obstacles that prevented modern Muslim countries from formulating public policy based on Sharia law.

  • The study is based on Tong Kuk Yuk Tae Chong Mok that Hong, Man-Jong, a writer of the later Cho-Sun dynasty, wrote in the style of chronicle in 1705. Tong kuk Yuk Tae Chong Mok, different from the former history book, described briefly the whole history in the autonomous view from king Tan-Kun to king sun-Jong, the Cho-sun dynasty. There for the author appraises the sense and value of Tong kuk Yuk Tae Chong Mok, by surveying the publishing background, bibliographic analysis, descriptive method, and cited book on Tong kuk Yuk Tae Chong Mok.

  • This study was conducted to identify the taxonomic differences in the characteristics of Rhodeus ocellatus and Acheilognathus yamatsutae during their early life history via an interspecific hybridization experiment. Results showed that the hatching rates of the cross-bred eggs were 60% for cross OY (R. ocellatus ♀×A. yamatsutae ♂) and 70% for cross YO (A. yamatsutae ♀×R. ocellatus ♂). The dorsal fin rays of YO were similar to those of R. ocellatus. The hybridization test of A. yamatsutae and R. ocellatus living in the same water stream revealed that no interspecies reproductive isolation occurred. OY and YO showed similar maternal and paternal characteristic. The juvenile of OY did not resemble both paternal and maternal fin rays, indicating a difference. The hatching larvae of the hybrids showed the morphological characteristics of their parents but varied in terms of the shapes of their parts.

  • As needs for knowledge on Korean history and the attention of the people are rapidly increasing, various smartphone applications for learning the history have appeared during recent years. These applications provide multiple choice questions to users through their own problem banks. But, since these questions are selected from the fixed set of problems that are stored previously, the learning efficiency of users is inevitably decreased when they use the applications repeatedly. In this paper, we present a question generation system named K-History which generates multiple choice questions in an automatic way using the database on the history of Korea. In addition, we also describe the development of the application Korean History Infinite Challenge as a learning application for Korean history. To develop K-History, we classify typical types of learning problems through various problems based on Korean history learning materials, proposing algorithms to generate problems according to the types found. Through the developed techniques, various learning systems can reduce the cost for creating questions, while increasing the learning efficiency of users.

  • The high-frequency analysis method of back-scattering cross section spectrum of rotating targets is established. The time history of the back-scattering cross section is calculated using a quasi-stationary approach, based on a physical optics and a physical theory of diffraction, combining an adaptive triangular beam method to consider the shadow effect. And the spectra of back-scattering cross section by the Doppler effect are analyzed applying a simple fast Fourier transform method to its time history. The numerical calculation for rotating targets, such as rotating metal plates and underwater propeller, are carried out. The time history appears to be periodic with respect to the number of wings. The backscattering cross section spectrum level and its frequency shift are dependent on the rotating speed, direction, and the shape of the targets.

  • We introduce the statistical system of the Commonwelth Independence State(CIS) countries located in the Central Asia. At present, the level of the national statistics production system of Korean National Statistical Office(NSO) is very high and locate on just behind Japan among all asian countries, and they are also trying to reach the statistics quality level upto the advanced developed countries in the world. To have the optimal Statistics production processing, we must understand the methodologies parts as well as the aspect of the macro statistics that can be applied to the country#s economic plan. Like the history is repeated, it is valuable to look at the development history of statistical system of other countries one century ago. We study the relationship among CIS countries along with the history of Russian statistics development. It will be helpful to look and understand the statistical system of CIS countries including Russia to use their statistics for international comparison study.

  • This study aimed to investigate taxonomic differences in the early life history characteristics of Rhodeus ocellatus and Rhodeus notatus through an interspecific hybridization experiment. The hatching rates of the cross-bred eggs were 50% for the ON cross (R. ocellatus ♀×R. notatus♂) and 67% for the NO cross (R. notatus♀×R. ocellatus♂). Interestingly, the hatching time of the hybrids was longer than that of their parents. The newly hatched larvae exhibited distinct differences in their physical characteristics. The head of the adult fish protruded forward more than that of the ON cross. The pterygoid process was 45° for the ON cross and 90° for the NO cross. Furthermore, the tail shape of the ON and NO crosses closely resembled that of R. notatus.
