  • This paper proposes a novel method of reversible data hiding in JPEG images. After analyzing the JPEG features, we provide a new algorithm of selecting appropriate blocks and coefficients to carry secret messages. Instead of embedding data into the histogram of all coefficients, we propose a strategy of ordered embedding to hide data by histogram shifts in several rounds. On the recipient end, secret messages can be exactly extracted, and the original JPEG image can be losslessly recovered. Experimental results show that high embedding rate can be achieved with limited distortions. Most importantly, the marked JPEG file generated by the proposed method requires less storage size than state-of-the-art works.

  • In this paper, we propose a technique of drowsiness detection using machine vision. The drowsiness of vehicle driver is often the primary cause of motor vehicle accidents. Therefore, the checking of eye images for detecting drowsiness status of driver is critical for preventing these accidents. In our suggested method, we analyze the changes of histogram and edge of eye region images which are acquired using CCD camera. We developed a drowsiness detection system using the histogram and edge change information. The experimental results show that our proposed method enhances the accuracy of detecting drowsiness nearly to 98%, and can be used for preventing vehicle accidents due to the drowsiness of drivers.

  • We propose a new method to reduce emotion recognition errors caused by variation in speaker characteristics and speech rate. Firstly, for reducing variation in speaker characteristics, we adjust features from a test speaker to fit the distribution of all training data by using the histogram equalization (HE) algorithm. Secondly, for dealing with variation in speech rate, we augment the training data with speech generated in various speech rates. In computer experiments using EMO-DB, KRN-DB and eNTERFACE-DB, the proposed method is shown to improve weighted accuracy relatively by 34.7%, 23.7% and 28.1%, respectively.

  • Images taken from outdoor are degraded quality by fog or haze, etc. In this paper, we propose a method that provides the visibility improved images through fog or haze removal. We proposed haze removal method that uses brightness transform based on atmospheric scatter coefficient rate with local histogram equalization. To calculate the transmission rate that indicate fog rate in original image, we use atmospheric scatter coefficient rate based on quadratic equations about haze model. And primary brightness transformed image can be obtained by using the obtained transmission rate. Also we use local histogram equalization with proposed brightness transform for effectively image visibility enhancement. Unlike existing methods, our method can process real-time with stable and effect image visibility enhancement. Proposed method use only the luminance images processed by good performance surveillance systems because it represents the real-time processing is required, black-box, digital camera and multimedia equipment is applicable. Also because it shows good performance only with the luminance images processed, Surveillance systems, black boxes, digital cameras, and multimedia devices etc, that require real-time processing can be applied.

  • Histogram intersection method, that counts the occurrence of color pixels, is one of the easy and simple color image retrieval methods. The method has an appropriate global property but does not contain the knowledge of shape for images. The absence of spatial information makes it difficult to discriminate images of the similar histogram. The application of one-dimensional projection to each image enables to obtain shape or spatial information of image. But in this case there is another problem having different length of the projection vector according to the size of each image. Thus this paper proposes a method that uses relative distances between peaks and their maximum value in the projection vector. In order to verify retrieval performance, the experimental results between the histogram intersection method, the projection only method, and the proposed one are compared and analyzed.

  • In this paper, we present an algorithm which recognize hand shape in real time using only image without adhering separate sensor. Hand recognizes using edge orientation histogram, which comes under a constant quantity of 2D appearances because hand shape is intricate. This method suit hand pose recognition in real time because it extracts hand space accurately, has little computation quantity, and is less sensitive to lighting change using color information in complicated background. Method which reduces recognition error using principal component analysis(PCA) method to can recognize through hand shape presentation direction change is explained. A case that hand shape changes by turning 3D also by using this method is possible to recognize. Human interface system manufacture technique, which controls a home electric appliance or game using, suggested method at experience could be applied.

  • In this paper, we propose a real-time classifier to distinguish humans from livestock by using the spatial integral. The image-difference method and the Expectation Maximization are used to reduce noises in input image. A histogram analysis based on Simulated Annealing and the fuzzy-Bayesian algorithm are used to classify human and livestock. Finally, the experiment results show the validity of the proposed method.

  • We propose a new algorithm to detect shot change, which is necessary in retrieval of video data. In order to solve the problems of abrupt brightness change and similar brightness between frames in the typical shot change methods, we propose the hi-polarity histogram method which takes into account the distribution and magnitude of brightness changes in consecutive frames. We evaluate our algorithm with compressed and uncompressed video data and demonstrate its improved performance.

  • We proposed a method for increasing visibility of dehazed images by enhancing luminance component of dehazed image. For this purpose, we analyze shape of luminance histogram in multi bunches and observe that increasing visibility those bunches does not bear over contrast enhancement. From the analysis and observation, histogram equalization intends to increase visibility of each bunch with less computation.

  • The human being uses speech signals to exchange information. When background noise is present, speech recognizers experience performance degradations. Speech recognition through speech enhancement in the noisy environment was studied. Histogram method as a reliable noise estimation approach for spectral subtraction was introduced using MFCC method. The experiment results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
