  • A bright and highly monochromatic red organic electroluminescent device based on a poly(N-vinylcarbazole) host was made. The device structure consists of poly(N-vinylcarbazole) dispersed with a europium complex as an emitting layer and a hole blocking layer of 2,9-dimethyl-4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (BCP). The EL cell exhibited just characteristic emission of europium ion.

  • $LiFePO_4$ is a potential candidate for the cathode material of the lithium polymer batteries. $LiFePO_4$ cathode active materials were synthesized by coating on the $LiFePO_4$ was tried using $TiO_2$ and corbon in oreder to increase cyclic performance and electronic conductivity. Highly dispersed on the particles enhances the electronic conductivity and increases the capacity. For lithium polymer battery applications, $LiFePO_4$/SPE/Li and $LiFePO_4$-$TiO_2$/SPE/Li 'cells were characterized electrochemically by cyclic volatammetry and charge/discharge cycling. The $LiFePO_4$-carbon-$TiO_2$ cathode in PVDF-PC-EC-$LiCIO_4$ electrolyte showed high capacity at high current density.

  • For the fabrication of multifunctional biopolymer nanocomposites in the combination of carbon nanotubes (CNTs), recently increasing attention has been paid to an effective homogenization of CNTs within polymer matrices and a fine tuning of the concentration. We developed an efficient method to produce homogeneous CNT-polycaprolactone nanocomposites with various and controllable CNT concentrations using an ionically-modified multi-walled CNT, MWCNT-Cl. The modified MWCNTs could be homogeneously dispersed in tetrahydrofuran (THF). Polycaprolactone (PCL) as a biodegradable and biocompatible polymer was smoothly dissolved in the homogeneous MWCNT-Cl/THF solution without agglomeration of MWCNT-Cl. The physicochemical and mechanical properties of the resultant nanocomposites were examined and the biological usefulness was briefly assessed.

  • We suggest a CNT-based gas sensor for breath alcohol measurement. The sensor was composed of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) thin film on flexible PES (polyethersulfone) substrate, and the SWCNTs thin film was formed by multiple spray-coating with SWCNTs solution which was well-dispersed, highly controlled and functionalized in ethanol solvent. In this work, three types of SWCNTs thin films were deposited with changes in the number of spray-coatings to 20, 40 and 60 times in order to compare electrical response properties of the SWCNTs thin films. from the fabricated sensors, conductance and capacitance responses were measured and discussed. Alcohol gas sensors have been commercialized widely as gauge for breath alcohol measurement which is applicable to checking whether car drivers are drinking-driving or not. Our alcohol gas sensors showed good sensitivity and linearity even at room temperature.

  • Vanadium oxide catalyst supported on ZrO2-WO3 was prepared by adding the Zr(OH)4 powder into a mixed aqueous solution of ammonium metavanadate and ammonium metatungstate followed by drying and calcining at high temperatures. The characterization of prepared catalysts was performed using solid-state 51V NMR and FTIR. In the case of calcination temperature at 773 K, for the samples containing low loading V2O5 below 18 wt % vanadium oxide was in a highly dispersed state, while for samples containing high loading V2O5 equal to or above 18 wt % vanadium oxide was well crystallized due to the V2O5 loading exceeding the formation of monolayer on the surface of ZrO2-WO3. The ZrV2O7 compound was formed through the reaction Of V2O5 and ZrO2 at 873 K and the compound decomposed into V2O5 and ZrO2 at 1073 K, which were confirmed by FTIR and 51V NMR.

  • The >$^13C$ NMR spectrum of >$^13CO$ adsorbed on Pd particles varies dramatically depending on dispersion. The spectrum of highly dispersed Pd particles supported on silica is a powder pattern ∼800 ppm wide with a first moment of 410 ppm. A low dispersion sample has a motionally narrowed line centered at 750±30 ppm and only ∼85 ppm full width at half height (FWHH). Over several years, high dispersion samples show an increase in the intensity near 750 ppm. These observations are interpreted as an increase of mobile bridging CO on high dispersion Pd surfaces of particles which resulted from smoothing of the metal particle surfaces in the presence of CO.

  • In this paper, we investigated the performance of synthetic graphene oxide-functionalized carbon nanotubes (GF) to promote cement hydration and increase the mechanical properties of cement paste. The enhancement effect of GF on the various properties of cement paste was evaluated via the mechanical strength, X-ray diffraction, and heat of hydration of cement paste. The results clearly showed that GF incorporation into cement paste promotes the early hydration of cement paste, generates more hydration products, which results in the mechanical improvement of cement paste. The compressive and splitting tensile strength were increased by 32.17% and 17.31%, respectively, compared to ordinary Portland cement at 28 days of hydration.

  • In this work, we prepared porous WO3 nanofibers (NFs) functionalized by bio-inspired catalytic $Cr_2O_3$ and $Co_3O_4$ nanoparticles as highly sensitive and selective $H_2S$ gas sensing layers. Highly porous 3-dimensional (3D) NFs networks decorated by well-dispersed catalyst NPs exhibited superior $H_2S$ gas response ($R_{air}/R_{gas}$ = 46 at 5 ppm) in high humidity environment (95 %RH). In particular, the sensors showed outstanding $H_2S$ selectivity against other interfering analytes (such as acetone, toluene, CO, $H_2$, ethanol). Exhaled breath sensors using $Cr_2O_3$ and $Co_3O_4$ catalysts-loaded $WO_3$ NFs are highly promising for the accurate detection of halitosis.

  • This study reports a microfluidic approach to produce monodisperse hydrogel microparticles in a simple and highly efficient manner. Specifically, we produce double emulsion drops with a thin oil shell surrounding an aqueous prepolymer solution, which is solidified via UV-induced free radical polymerization. When they are dispersed in an aqueous solution, the oil shell is dewetted due to the absence of surfactants, resulting in production of highly uniform hydrogel microparticles (C.V.=1%). Results show that production of monodisperse hydrogel microparticles with controllable size and composition can be achieved with minimal use of oil unlike water-in-oil (w/o) single emulsion-based approach. Furthermore, in-depth study of flow patterns in microfluidic device using a phase diagram exhibits a crucial relationship among relative flow rates while providing windows of readily controllable parameters for reliable manufacturing of hydrogel microparticles.

  • Primary small cell carcinoma of the salivary gland is a rare neoplasm that accounts for approximately 1.8% of all primary major salivary gland malignancies. Because of its rarify, it is difficult to diagnose small cell carcinoma of the parotid gland by fine needle aspiration cytology(FNAC). We experienced a case of primary small cell carcinoma of the parotid gland in a 72-year-old woman who presented with two palpable masses of the left infraauricular and ocular legions of two to three month's duration, respectively. Aspirate smears from the left infraauricular area were highly cellular on necrotic and lymphocytic background and showed individually dispersed cells or three-dimensional clusters of small cells. The tumor cells were round to oval with a very high nucleocytoplasmic ratio. Nuclei were about two times the size of lymphocytes and had uniformly dispersed but hyperchromatic to pyknotic chromatin. Nucleoli were occasionally visible but were generally inconspicuous. Numerous mitotic figures were detected. The clusters of these small tumor cells exhibited angular nuclear molding, irregular nuclear outlines, and occasionally rosette like arrangement. The tumor was confirmed by histology and immunohistochemistry.
