The accurate prediction of the flow and the pressure distribution near the tip of the blade is crucial in determining the tip vortex cavitation inception which usually occurs on the blade tip or inside the core of the tip vortex just downstream of the blade tip. An improved boundary element method is applied to the prediction of the flow around propeller blades, with emphasis at the tip region. In the method, the Blow adapted grid and a higher order panel method, which combines a hyperboloidal panel geometry with a hi-quadratic dipole distribution, are used in order to accurately model the trailing wake geometry and the highly rolled-up regions in the wake. The method is applied to several propeller geometries and the results have been found to agree well to the existing experimental data. Inviscid flow methods are able to predict the pressures at the tip as well as the shape of the trailing wake. On the other hand, they are unable to determine the flow inside the viscous core of the tip vortex, where cavitation inception often occurs. Thus, a method is presented that treats the flow inside the viscous core. The inner flow is treated with a 2-D Clavier-stokes solution without making any assumptions for axisymmetric flow and conicity of the flow along the tip trajectory. The method can thus allow the treatment of general propeller blade configurations. The velocity and pressure distributions inside the core are shown and compared to those from other numerical methods.
In order to reduce the power consumption in international standard IEC62087, the luminance efficiency should be improved at the low discharge load rather than at the high discharge load. Thus, this paper analysed the characteristics of the discharge at the panels with ITO Gap of $65{\mu}m$, $80{\mu}m$, and $100{\mu}m$ in 50-inch PDP with FHD resolution. It was well known that the long gap panel improves the luminance and the luminous efficiency. However, it is very difficult to drive the panel due to high driving voltage. When the normal driving method was applied at the panel with ITO gap of $100{\mu}m$, the phenomenon of the double peak was generated in the sustain period. We confirmed that main factor of the double peak is the self-erasing discharge. When the CLHS driving method was applied at the panel with ITO gap of $100{\mu}m$, the self-erasing discharge was improved in the sustain period. Also, the $V_S$ and $V_A$ minimum voltage of the CLHS driving method decreased about 9V and 12V compared with those of the normal driving method. Moreover, when the CLHS driving method was applied to the panel with ITO gap of $100{\mu}m$, the luminance and the luminous efficiency increased compared with those of the normal driving method. The luminance and the luminous efficiency greatly increased at the low discharge load. The less discharge load, the higher increase rate of the luminance and the luminous efficiency. Especially, the luminous efficiency at ITO gap of $100{\mu}m$ increased about 26.3% at the discharge load of 4% compared with that at ITO gap of $65{\mu}m$.
A three-dimensional higher order boundary element method based on the B-spline is presented. The method accurately models piecewise continuous bodies and induced velocity potentials using B-spline tensor product representations, and it is capable of obtaining accurate pointwise values for the potential and its derivatives, especially in the trailing edge and tip region of the lift generating body, which may be difficult or impossible to evaluate with constant panel methods. In addition, we implement a wake roll-up and examine the tip vortex formation in the near wake region. The results are compared with existing numerical results and the results of experiments performed out at the cavitation tunnel of Chungnam National University.
The present article reported the thermal buckling strength of the sandwich shell panel structure and subsequent improvement of the same by embedding shape memory alloy (SMA) fibre via a general higher-order mathematical model in conjunction with finite element method. The geometrical distortion of the panel structure due to the temperature is included using Green-Lagrange strain-displacement relations. In addition, the material nonlinearity of SMA fibre due to the elevated thermal environment also incorporated in the current analysis through the marching technique. The final form of the equilibrium equation is obtained by minimising the total potential energy functional and solved computationally with the help of an original MATLAB code. The convergence and the accuracy of the developed model are demonstrated by solving similar kind of published numerical examples including the necessary input parameter. After the necessary establishment of the newly developed numerical solution, the model is extended further to examine the effect of the different structural parameters (side-to-thickness ratios, curvature ratios, core-to-face thickness ratios, volume fractions of SMA fibre and end conditions) on the buckling strength of the SMA embedded sandwich composite shell panel including the different geometrical configurations.
In this study, the added resistances of the large container ship in head and oblique seas are evaluated using a time-domain Rankine panel method. The mean forces and moments are computed by the near-field method, namely, the integration of the second-order pressure directly on the ship surface. Furthermore, a weakly nonlinear approach in which the nonlinear restoring and Froude-Krylov forces on the exact wetted surface of a ship are included in order to examine the effects of amplitudes of waves on ship motions and added resistances. The computation results for various advance speeds and heading angles are validated by comparing with the experimental data, and the validation shows reasonable consistency. Nevertheless, there exist discrepancies between the numerical and experimental results, especially for a shorter wave length, a higher advance speed, and stern quartering seas. Therefore, the accuracies of the linear and weakly nonlinear methods in the evaluation of the mean drift forces and moments are also discussed considering the characteristics of the hull such as the small incline angle of the non-wall-sided stern and the fine geometry around the high-nose bulbous bow.
Smartphone is integrated into the daily lives of all types of people not even young generation. A touch screen display is a primary input device of a smart phone, a tablet computer, etc. While there are many tough technologies in existence, resistive and capacitive are dominant and currently lead the touch screen panel industry. And a capacitive touch screen panel widely used in smart phones is coated with a material that stores electrical charges. In this study, we tried to manufacture gloves produced with electro-conducting leather as a tool to operate a touch panel screen. Therefore, electrically conductive materials, Polyaniline(PANI), Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT), and Carbon nanotubes (CNT) were applied to the surface of leather to be used as a touching operator for capacitive touch screen panel. The leather samples were treated by simple painting method; firstly, they were painted with aqueous solution containing each of the electrically conductive materials and then dried. This cycle was repeated three times. Consequently, the treated leather samples showed electrical conductivity and reasonable working performance to the capacitive touch screen. And, PANI showed the best performance and highest electrical conductivity, and then PEDOT and, CNT in decreasing order. This is because the solubilities of PANI and PEDOT show higher than dispersibility of CNT. Thus, the concentration of conducting polymers was greater than that of CNT in the treating solutions.
To improve the strength of glass is being studied in order to contribute to weight saving of flat panel displays. Generally, the strength achieved of glass-ceramics is higher as is the fracture toughness by the formation of a heterogeneous phase inside glass. In this study, Ag-doped $45SiO_2-24CaO-24Na_2O-4P_2O_5\;and\;70SiO_2-10CaO-24Na_2O-10TiO_2$ glasses were irradiated to strengthen by crystallization using femto-second laser pulse. XRD, Nano-indenter and SEM etc., irradiation of laser pulse without heat-treated samples was analyzed. Samples irradiated by laser had higher value($4.4{\sim}4.56^*10-3Pa$) of elastic modulus which related with strength of glass than values heat-treated samples and these are $1.2{\sim}1.5$ times higher values than them of mother glass. This process can be applicable to the strengthening of thinner glass plate, and it has an advantage over traditional heat-treatment and ion-exchange method.

Studies on very large offshore structures are increasing owing to the development of deep sea, large-scale energy generation using ocean resources, and so on. The enlargement of offshore structures makes the hydroelastic effect and low natural frequency related responses important. Numerical analyses and model tests for hydroelastic and higher-order springing responses of fixed cylindrical structures are conducted in this study. The panel methods with and without the hydroelastic effect with shell elements, and the Morison analysis method with beam elements are applied. To observe the hydroelastic effect for structural strength, two structures are considered: bottom-fixed cylindrical structures with high and low bending stiffnesses, respectively. The surge motions at the top of the structure and bending stresses on the structure are observed under regular and irregular wave conditions. The regular wave conditions are generated considering the ratios of the cylindrical outer diameter to the wave lengths, and keeping the wave steepness constant. The model tests are performed in the three-dimensional ocean engineering basin in the KRISO (Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering). From the numerical and experimental results, in which the hydroelastic responses are only observed in the case of the structure with a low bending stiffness, it is confirmed that the hydroelastic responses are highly dependent on the structural stiffness. Additionally, the higher-order phenomenon on the specified wave condition is analyzed by observing the higher-order springing responses when the incident wave frequency or its multiples with the high wave height coincides with the natural frequency of the structure.
