  • A number of methods based on various ideas have been proposed for simulating the non-Gaussian stationary process. However, these methods have some limitations. This paper reviewed several simulation methods based on the translation method using logarithmic and polynomial functions, which have emerged in the history of statistics and in the field of civil engineering. The applicability of each method is discussed from the viewpoint of the reproducibility of higher order statistics of the object function in the simulated sample functions, and examined using pressure signals measured from wind tunnel experiments for various shapes of buildings. The parameter estimation methods, i.e. the method of moments and quantile plot, are also reviewed, and the useful aspects of each method are discussed. Additionally, a simple worksheet for parameter estimation is derived based on the method of moment for practical application, and the accuracy is discussed comparing with a set of previously proposed formulae.

  • In digital communicatioin networks, speech recognition systems conventionally reconstruct speech followed by extracting feature [parameters. In this paper, we consider a useful approach by incorporating speech coding parameters into the speech recognizer. Most speech coders employed in the networks represent line spectral pairs as spectral parameters. In order to improve the recognition performance of the LSP-based speech recognizer, we introduce two different ways: one is to devise weighed distance measures of LSPs and the other is to transform LSPs into a new feature set, named a pseudo-cepstrum. Experiments on speaker-independent connected-digit recognition showed that the weighted distance measures significantly improved the recognition accuracy than the unweighted one of LSPs. Especially we could obtain more improved performance by using PCEP. Compared to the conventional methods employing mel-frequency cepstral coefficients, the proposed methods achieved higher performance in recognition accuracies.

  • In this paper, first order slice height calculation in Laminated Object Manufacturing (LOM) of free form surfaces is done with two different considerations: that a) the cutter trajectory is oriented in the direction of local absolute maximum more in number when compared to the case where the cutter trajectory is contained in the normal vertical section (NVS). However, it would help in achieving higher form accuracy of the final part because it would be a form of worst-case check. For the second proposed strategy, least number of slices results, thereby reducing overall build time drastically.

  • A method of applying a recurrent backpropagation network to identifying or modelling a dynamic system is proposed. After the recurrent backpropagation network having both the characteristicsof interpolative network and associative network is applied to XOR problem, a new model of recurrent backpropagation network is proposed and compared with the original recurrent backpropagation network by applying them to XOR problem. based on the observation thata function can be approximated with polynomials to arbitrary accuracy, the new model is developed so that it may generate higher-order terms in the internal states Moreover, it is shown that the new network is succesfully applied to recognizing noisy patterns of numbers.

  • Data mining technique is the exploration and analysis, by automatic or semiautomatic means, of large quantities of data in order to discover meaningful patterns and rules. This paper uses a data mining technique for the prediction of defect types in manufacturing Process. The Purpose of this Paper is to model the recognition of defect type Patterns and Prediction of each defect type before it occurs in manufacturing process. The proposed model consists of data handling, defect type analysis, and defect type prediction stages. The performance measurement shows that it is higher in prediction accuracy than logistic regression model.

  • Fans are widely used in household electrical appliances due to their easy usage and high performance for cooling capacity. However, the noise generated by these fans causes one of serious problems. LG electronics makes the intranet software for design and analysis of fan. Axial, sirocco and centrifugal fan can be designed and analyzed by using the IFD(Intranet Based Fans Design) software. In order to calculate the aeroacoustic noise of a fan, the numerical method, which can calculate the acoustic pressure at the blade passing frequency and its higher harmonic frequencies, has been developed. To calculate the unsteady resultant force of the blade, vortex method is used. This paper shows the overview of the software and validates the accuracy of predicted noise of fan.

  • No. 1 PL(Pickling Line) and No. 1 TCM(Tandem Cold Rolling Mill) at Pohang works started up in 1977 and have been operating successfully keeping high productivity for productivity thin gauge sheat such as BP, CR and silicon steel. On the other hand, customer's requirements of quality level are rasing higher continuously, so that Pohang works has combined and revamped No. 1 PL and No. 1 TCM in order to improve labor productivity, thickness accuracy and shape control capability, and so on in the period of 1977∼1999. This paper introduce the applied facilities, technologies and recent operations after revamping.

  • This study discribes result of comparision of two other numerical method, method of characteristics (MOC) and Lax-Wendroff method(LWM) applied at wave action analysis of Intake and exhaust pipe. Partiality FCT(Flux Correct Transport) scheme is appeneded to LWM to protest unacceptable overshoots, occuring near discontinuity. The final conclusion of this study is that MOC should be replaced by a second order finite difference approach(such as the LW method). Clear benefits we can get by change are faster calculation, higher accuracy, conservation of mass and consistent calculation method.

  • A finite element based on the efficient higher order zig-zag theory with multiple delaminations Is developed to refine the predictions of frequency and mode shapes. Displacement field through the thickness are constructed by superimposing linear zig-zag field to the smooth globally cubic varying field. The layer-dependent degrees of freedom of displacement fields are expressed in terms of reference primary degrees of freedom by applying interface continuity conditions including delaminated interfaces as well as free hounding surface conditions of transverse shear stresses. Thus the proposed theory is not only accurate but also efficient. This displacement field can systematically handle the number, shape, size, and locations of delaminations. Throught the dynamic version of variational approach, the dynamic equilibrium equations and variationally consistent boundary conditions are obtained. Through the natural frequency analysis and time response analysis of composite plate with multiple delaminations, the accuracy and efficiency of the present finite element are demonstrated. The present finite element is suitable in the predictions of the dynamic response of the thick composite plate with multiple delaminations.

  • Higher productivity requires high-speed motion of machine tool axes. The iron core linear DC motor (LDM) is widely accepted as a viable candidate for high-speed machine tool feed unit. LDM, however, has two inherent disturbance force components, namely cogging and thrust force ripple. These disturbance forces directly affect the tracking accuracy of the feeding system and must be eliminated or reduced. In order to reduce motor ripple, this research adapted the feedforward compensation method and neural network control. Experiments carried out with the linear motor test setup show that these control methods are effective in reducing motor ripple.
