  • To minimize construction of nuclear facility, it is required to reduce reinforcing bar amount and solve reinforcing bar concentration and for this, it is necessary to develop appication design technology and modular of high strength reinforcing bar. Hence, KHNP reduces excessive reinforcing bar amount which can cause possibility of poor construction of concrete through design standard development and modular of nuclear facility structure using high strength reinforcing bar to raise economics and has its purpose to maintain high-level safety and durability as they are. This study is to introduce application method for the Rebar Modulation of High-Strength Reinforcing Bars to the Nuclear Power Plant Structures.

  • It is the purpose of this study to evaluate the structural performance of steel pipe splice for SD500 high-strength reinforcing bar, through a cyclic loading test. The experimental variables adopted in this study include the development length of rebar, the type of sleeve, and size of reinforcing bar, among others. The results of this study showed that the developed steel pipe splice system for SD500 high-strength reinforcing bar, retained the structural performance required in domestic, ACI and AIJ code. It is considered that the study result presented in this paper can be helpful in developing a reasonable design method for a steel pipe splice system for SD500 high-strength reinforcing bar.

  • This study is done to evaluate how existence of shear-span ratio and shear reinforcing bar effects on shear performance from through shear experiment using PVA fiber reinforced ferroconcrete building. Ratio of shear-span was set 1, 1.7, and arrangement of shear reinforcing bar was set with KCI2012 regulation. In result, subject with less shear-span ratio, and shear reinforcing bar with arrangement of bar shows high stiffness. Subjects with high shear-span ratio show large difference depending on existence of shear reinforcing bar. Therefore, theoretical shear strength followed by CEB code underestimates experimental shear strength by 43.9%. Shear strength of the deep beam with headed bars is more affected by the bearing strength of head than the bond strength of bar.

  • Bond strength of reinforcing bar to high-performance concrete using belite cement is explored using beam end test specimen. The key parameters for the bond test are slump of concrete, top bar effect, and strength of concrete in addition to concrete covers. Specimen failed in the typical brittle bond failure splitting the concrete cover as the wedging action. The test results show that the specimens with belire cement concrete show higher bond strength than those with portland cement concrete. Bond strength of the top bar is less than bond strength of bottom bar, but the top bar factor satisfies the modification factor for top reinforcement. The results also show that the bond strength is function of the square root of concrete compressive strength and cover thickness. The recently developed high-strength and high-slump concrete with belite cement performs well in terms of bond strength to reinforcing steel.

  • In this study, side-face blowout failure strength of high strength headed reinforcing bar, which is vertically anchoring between RC or SFRC members, is evaluated throughout pullout test. The major test parameters are content ratio of high strength steel fibers, strength of rebar, length of anchorage, presence of shear reinforcement, and the side concrete cover thickness planned to be 1.3 times of the rebar. In pullout test, tensile force was applied to the headed reinforcing bar with the hinged supports positioned 1.5 and 0.7 times the anchorage length on both sides of the headed reinforcing bar. As a result, the cone-shaped crack occurred where the headed reinforcing bar embedded and finally side-face blowout failure caused by bearing pressure of the headed reinforcing bar. The tensile strength of specimens increased by 13.0 ~26.2% with shear reinforcement. The pullout strength of the specimens increased by 3.6 ~15.4% according to steel fiber reinforcement. Increasing the anchoring length and shear reinforcement were evaluated to reduce the stress bearing ration of the total stress.

  • Among several splicing system of reinforcing bar, the grout-filled splice sleeve system has been applied widely. However, as the splice sleeve for high strength rebar as SD500 is not yet made in korea, the development of splice sleeve for high strength reinforcing bar are required as soon as possible. It is the purpose of this study to develop the steel pipe sleeve for high strength rebar as SD500 and estimate its structural performance by monotonic loading test. The experimental variables adopted in this study are the development length of rebars, types of sleeve etc. The results of this study showed that the developed steel pipe splice sleeve system for high strength reinforcing bar as SD500 retained the structural performance required in domestic, ACI and AIJ criteria. And it is considered that the study result presented in this paper can be helpful in developing reasonable design method of steel pipe splice sleeve system for high strength reinforcing bar as SD500.

The result also show that bond strength is function of square root of concrete compressive strength and cover thickness. More detailed evaluation will be conducted from the test specimen with high strength concrete using the belite cement.

  • Bond strength of reinforcing bar to high-perfomance concrete using belite cement is explored using beam end test specimens. The key parameters for the bond test are slump of concrete, top bar effect, and strength of concrete in addition to concrete cover. The test results show that the specimens with belite cement concrete show approximately 10% higer bond strength than those with portland cement concrete. The results also show that the bond strength from the high strength concrete is function of the square root of concrete compressive strength. Bond strength of the top bar is less than bond strength of bottom bar, but the ratios of the bond strength of bottom-cast bars to those for top-cast bars are much less than the modification factor for top reinforcement found in the ACI 318-95 code. Comparisons with other reported tests identified that belite cement increased bond strength while silica fume or flyash used in high strength concrete decreased bond strength. The high-strength and high-slump concrete with belite cement performs well in terms of bond strength to reinforcing steel.
