Polymer-modified cement is the composite material made by partially replacing and strengthening the cement hydrate binders of conventional mortar with polymeric modifiers such as polymer latexes and redispersible polymeric modifiers. It is known that the addition of polymer to cement mortar leads to improved quality, which would be expected to have a high chemical resistance. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify the improved chemical resistance, such as low permeability and low ion diffusivity, of the polymer-modified cement as a solidification agent for the radwaste. First, polymer-modified cement specimens by latex modification were prepared according to the polymer content from 0% to 30% to select the optimized polymer content. At those specimens, the water-to-cement (W/C) ratio was maintained to 33% and 50% respectively. After the much curing time, the structural integrity of specimens was evaluated through the compressive strength test and the porosity evaluation by the water immersion method. From the results, 10% of the polymer content at 33% of the W/C ratio was shown to have the most improved quality. Finally, the leaching test referredfrom ANS 16.1 for the specimens having the most improved quality was conducted. Dedicated specimens for the leaching test were then mixed with radioisotopes of $^{60}Co$ and $^{137}Cs$ at the specimen preparation.

In the industry, due to the carbon dioxide gas produced during cement production is increasing, research on recycling by-products has been actively conducted. In the industrial by-products, the high calcium fly ash(HCFA) produced by the blast-furnace in the circulating fluidized bed combustion method has a high ratio of CaO and CaSO4. In view of this, the purpose of this is to use high calcium fly ash(HCFA) as a stimulant in blast furnace slag powder and use it as a cement substitute. As a result, it is judged that the substitution ratio of HCFA should be 15% or less. In addition, although durability and strength are relatively lower than of OPC, it is considered that it can be utilized as an environmentally building material.

Many studies have been performed on hybrid fiber reinforced concrete for years, which is to improve some of the weak material properties of concrete. Studies on characteristics of hybrid fiber reinforced concrete using amorphous steel fiber and organic fiber, however, yet remain to be done. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the compressive and tensile behaviors and then propose a material model of high performance hybrid fiber reinforced concrete using amorphous steel fiber and polyamide fiber. For this purpose, the high performance hybrid fiber reinforced concretes were made according to their total volume fraction of 1.0% for target compressive strength of 40MPa and 60MPa, respectively, and then the compressive and tensile behaviors of those were evaluated. Also, based on the experimental results of the high performance hybrid fiber reinforced concrete and mortar, each material model for the compressive and tensile behavior was suggested. It was found that the experimental results and the proposed models corresponded relatively well.

This paper presents both experimental and analytical studies for the development of an ECC(Engineered Cementitious Composites) using ground granulated blast furnace slag(slag). This material has been focused on achieving moderately high composite strength while maintaining high ductility, represented by strain-hardening behavior in uniaxial tension. In the material development, micromechanics was adopted to properly select optimized range of the composition based on steady-state cracking theory and experimental studies on matrix, and interfacial properties. A single fiber pullout test and a wedge splitting test were employed to measure the bond properties of the fiber in a matrix and the fracture toughness of mortar matrix. The addition of the slag resulted in slight increases in the frictional bond strength and the fracture toughness. Subsequent direct tensile tests demonstrate that the fiber reinforced mortar exhibited high ductile uniaxial tension behavior with a maximum strain capacity of 3.6%. Both ductility and tensile strength(~5.3 MPa) of the composite produced with slag were measured to be significantly higher than those of the composite without slag. The slag particles contribute to improving matrix strength and fiber dispersion, which is incorporated with enhanced workability attributed to the oxidized grain surface. This result suggests that, within the limited slag dosage employed in the present study, the contribution of slag particles to the workability overwhelms the side-effect of decreased potential of saturated multiple cracking.

The use of Compaction Grouting evolved in 1950's to correct structural settlement of buildings. Over the almost 50 years, the technology has been developed and is currently used in wide range of applications. Compaction Grouting, the injection of a very stiff, 'zero-slump' mortar grout under relatively high pressure, displaces and compacts soils. It can effectively repair natural or man-made soil strength deficiencies in variety of soil formations. Major applications of Compaction Grouting include densifying loose soils or fill voids caused by sinkholes, poorly compacted fills, broken utilities, improper dewatering, or soft ground tunneling excavation. Other applications include preventing liquefation, re-leveling settled structures, and using compaction grout bulbs as structural elements of minipiles or underpinning. In this paper, on the basis of the case history constructed in this year, a study has been performed to analyze the basic mechanism of the Compaction Grouting. Also, the effectiveness of the ground improvement and the bearing capacity of the Compaction Pile has been verified by the Cone Penetration Test(CPT) and Load Test. Relatively uniform Compaction grouting column could be maintained by planning the Quality Control in the course of grouting. And, the Quality Control Plan has been conceived using grout pressure, volume of grout and drilling depth.

The use of Compaction Grouting evolved in the 1950's to correct structural settlement of buildings. Over the almost 50 years, the technology has developed and is currently used in wide range of applications. Compaction Grouting, the injection of a very stiff, 'zero-slump' mortar grout under relatively high pressure, displaces and compacts soils. It can effectively repair natural or man-made soil strength deficiencies in variety of soil formations. Major uses of Compaction Grouting include densifying loose soils or fill voids caused by sinkholes, poorly compacted fills, broken utilities, improper dewatering, or soft ground tunneling excavation. Other application include preventing liquefaction, re-leveling settled structures, and using compaction grout bulbs as structural elements of minipiles or underpinning. The technique replaced slurry injection, or 'pressure grouting', as the preferred method of densification grouting. There are several reasons for the increased use of Compaction Grouting which can be summarized in one word: CONTROL. The low slump grout and injection processes are usually designed to keep the grout in a homogeneous mass at the point of injection, while acceptable in some limited applications, tends to quickly get out of control. Hydraulic soil fracturing can cause extensive grout travel, often well beyond the desired treatment zone. So, on the basis of the two case history constructed in recent year, a study has been peformed to analyze the basic mechanism of the Compaction Grouting and verify the effectiveness of the ground improvement using some test methods.

Most tunnel damage such as cracks or leakage which exist in tunnel liner commonly, is caused by the cavities that exist behind the tunnel liner, through the tunnel safety inspections. These cavities were analysed to check if they affect the stability of tunnels. This study is on the development of the controlled low-strength and flowable filling material which an be applied to the cavity behind the tunnel lining. The backfilling material studied here is crushed sand and stone-dust which is in cake-state and is a by-product obtained in the producing process of aggregate. Varying the compound mixing ratio, laboratory tests of compression test and chemical analyses were carried out. In addition, the material was applied to an old tunnel for the performance assessment.
Out of plane behaviors of walls and infills are investigated in this paper, using rigid block concepts. Walls and infills are sometimes separated from top beams because of in plane movement of the walls and crumbling mortar layers under the top beams. Therefore, sufficient strength should be supplied to hold them against out of plane forces. Such walls are studied here under some real and scaled earthquakes, regarding their out of plane behavior. Influences of some reinforcements, connecting the walls to frames or perpendicular walls, are also studied. It is shown that unreinforced walls of regular sizes (3 m high and 4.5 m long) are normally unstable in the earthquakes. However, performing some reinforced bars that connect them to adjacent elements- frames or perpendicular walls - stabilizes them. Eventually, it is concluded that supplying 3 reinforced bars at 1/4, 2/4 and 3/4 of the panel's height stabilizes the walls in the assumed earthquakes. In this regard, for 20 cm and 35 cm thick walls ${\Phi}$18mm and ${\Phi}$20mm bars are to be used, respectively. For walls with other configurations, the forces and required areas of the reinforcements can be determined by the developed method of this paper.
Considering the physical quality of the wall body in this study we tried to select a replenishing that is proper for filling the cracked part of the painting wall layer and apply the natural adhesives that have traditionally been used, investigating whether it is possible to substitute those for the chemical adhesive which is used at present time. The result of this study showed the red algae adhesive was, in a weathering environment, as safe as the synthetic resin originated from the polyvinyl acetate which is used generally on the present spot, and it was concluded that although the starch adhesive displayed its superiority in enhancing the strength of the earth mortar and its work disposition, it seemed proper for it to be used as a filling adhesive for the first or midterm layer because it showed a surface hardening phenomenon. And also the glue and fish glue were judged they were not qualified as a filling adhesive due to mold occurring in a environment of high moisture that is a biological problem, showing at same time a weak physical feature in a weathering environment. Therefore it would be possible to use the red algae adhesive or starch one substituting them for the original one sold on the present market, if among natural adhesives the weak points of the them were to be corrected.
