Subspecific difference of the percentage of white immature kernels (WIK) between japonica and indica rice cultivars was analyzed in relation to ripening temperature and yield characters. Thirty-three Chinese and 10 Japanese rice cultivars, including 32 japonica and 11 indica, were cultivated with three different cropping seasons for three years. The results were as follows: (1) Indica had less number of panicles, larger number of spikelets per panicle with higher yield, and longer and narrower kernels than japonica. In japonica, Chinese cultivars had less number of panicles and larger number of spikelets per panicle than Japanese cultivars. In addition, WIK was significantly higher in Chinese cultivars than in Japanese cultivars, because of the higher percentage of milky white kernels, even at similar temperature conditions during ripening. On the other hand, WIK in indica was not significantly different between the production areas and between the cropping seasons. (2) Regardless of subspecies, WIK in a large number of Chinese cultivars increased with increasing temperature during ripening within 20 days after heading, while this relation was uncommon in Japanese cultivars, showing the low temperature response. However, some Chinese cultivars had the low WIK with the low temperature response. (3) WIK in japonicawas positively correlated with 1000-kernel weight, spikelet density, kernel width and thickness, but negatively correlated with panicle length and grain filling percentage, while in indica it was positively correlated with panicle number per area, grain filling percentage, brown rice yield and kernel width, but negatively correlated with kernel length. These results indicated that WIK in both subspecies had a close relation to kernel size, and that WIK was high in japonica cultivars with wide and thick kernels and in indica cultivars with short and wide kernels.
Most of the japonica rice varieties preferred for high eating quality are liable to lodging even under moderate rate of nitrogen application. This lodging liability has been a critical limit even for proper evaluation of physio-logical characteristics of those varieties exhibitable under higher nitrogen levels. Use of recent inhibitors of gibberellin biosynthesis such as ‘Pac1obutrazol’ may allow us to overcome this barrier. The responses of four high eating quality varieties to nitrogen application to the level of 150kg N per ha were evaluated with and without use of Paclobutrazol in comparison with a non-lodging, improved short japonica, Dongjin and a non-lodging, high yielding indica x japonica Milyang 23. The four were Damageum (the best eating quality in the 1930s), Nongrim 6 (the best in the 1960s), Chuchung (the best since 1970s), Koshihikari (the best in Japan since 1960s). As expected increased application of nitrogen increased plant height, length of the 3rd internode, and lodg-ing liability, being measured as culm breaking load, in all varieties tested and caused actual lodging in the fiel from the 50kg Nfha level in Damageum and Koshihikari and at the level of l50kg Nfha in Nongrim 6. Applica-tion of Pac1obutrazol (0.6%G) 15 days before heading reduced plant height, length of the 3rd internode and lodging liability being measured as culm breaking load in all varieties tested. However, the application of Pac1obutrazol during active tillering stage resulted in decreased culm breaking load in Damageum, Nongrim 6, and Koshihikari in spite of the decreased plant height and culm length as in the other varieties. Maximum yield was obtained with 100kg Nand 30kg Pac1obutrazol at 15 days before heading in Nongrim 6, 150kg N and 30kg Pac1obutrazol at 15 days before heading in Damageum, and 150kg N and 20kg Paclobutrazol at 20 days after transplanting plus 30kg Paclobutrazol at 15 days before heading in the variety Koshinhikari and Chuchung. Under a sensory evaluation of cooked rice, the four high eating quality varieties were not different in rank and Paclobutrazol treated rice was not distinguished from the untreated in eating quality.

This study was carried out to select the utilizable vegetations for the stabilization of slopes and river banks, landscape creation and water quality cleansing in dams, lakes and streams. In this study, 10 herbaceous plants were investigated for their survival and growth characteristics under complete and partly flooding conditions in the nursery. The ranking order of flooding tolerance based on survival ability showed that Iris pseudoacorus, Phragmites communis and Phragmites japonica were first, Typha angustata, Miscanthus sacchariflorus and Pennisetum alopecuroides were second, and Cymbopogon tortilis, Miscanthus sinensis, Kummerowia striata and Lolium multiflorum were last. That of flooding tolerance base on growth ability showed that Iris pseudoacorus, Phragmites communis, Phragmites japonica, Typha angustata and Miscanthus sacchariflorus were first, Pennisetum alopecuroides, Miscanthus sinensis and Kummerowia striata were second, and Cymbopogon tortilis and Lolium multiflorum were last. Espcially, Miscanthus sacchariflorus, Iris pseudoacorus, Phragmites japonica and Phragmites communis showed good survival and growth abilities when they were complete flooded for 60 days. Also high flooding tolerant species grow as better as flooding period longer under the partly flooding condition. It was found that Pennisetum alopecuroides and Kummerowia striata have excess moisture tolerance because they showed good survival and growth under the partly flooding condition. This study confirmed that the possibilities of utilizing Iris pseudoacorus, Typha angustata, Phragmites japonica, Phragmites japonica, Phragmites communis, Miscanthus sacchariflorus, Pennisetum alopecuroides and Kummerowia striata as the efficient plants for vegetation measures on the flooded slopes of dam and various impoundment sites.
Uptakes of N and P by Phragmites japonica Steudel. are determined in continuous flow tanks as a function of hydraulic retention time (HRT, days) and nutrient concentration (NC). Results show that the uptake was higher at shorter HRT and higher nutrient concentration, and the regression equations were estimated. Mean above ground biomass of Phragmites japonica in the middle reaches of Sagimak stream was 335.92 g/$m^2$, and estimated uptake by this vegetation were 7.31~20.15 NH$_4$-N, 31.15~95.84 NO$_3$-N, and 4.09~11.48 PO$_4$-P mg/$m^2$/day in Sagimak stream, respectively when HRT was 1~5 days. According to this study, it is concluded that Phragmites japonica Steudel. are suitable for water quality improvement of stream through nutrient uptake at short HRT and high concentration.

This study was carried out to determine the effects of light controls and leaf mold on root growth and physiological responses of Atractylodes japonica growing in forest farming. The experiment was performed by light controls (100%, 62.5%, 40.3% and 19.7% of full sunlight) and application of leaf mold to soil. Height, stem diameter, number of flower buds and root collar diameter were the highest in leaf mold within 62.5% of full sunlight (relative light intensity 62.5%). And these were the higher in leaf mold within each light level. As the shading level increased, light saturation point and maximum photosynthesis rate decreased. As the light level decreased, SPAD value increased in control and leaf mold. As a result of surveying the whole experiment, A. japonica was judged worse root growth under the lower light level. It was concluded that the light level was one of the most important factors to produce A. japonica. Also, producing high-quality of A. japonica with the price competitiveness by using leaf mold like the experiment can be an effective way to increase incomes for farmers.

'Japonica 6' is a japonica rice variety developed from a cross between 'MS11', the beginning variety adaptable to tropical region, and 'IR86743-28-1-4', an elite line of high yield and good plant type by a Korea(RDA)-IRRI cooperative breeding program at IRRI in 2017. The growth duration of 'Japonica 6' is 121 days from sowing to harvest. It is 10 days later than that of the check variety 'MS11'. The culm length of 'Japonica 6' is 70 cm, and 1,000-brown rice grain weight is 26.7 g. It has a shorter culm and a larger grain. size than that of MS11. 'Japonica 6' is moderately resistant to blast disease but susceptible to bacterial blight, tungro virus and plant hoppers. The milled rice recovery rate of 'Japonica 6' is improved than that of 'MS11'. The head rice rate of 'Japonica 6' is significantly higher than that of 'MS11'. Yield of 'Japonica 6' is averagely 3.59 MT/ha of milled rice in 5 areas of the Philippines. The 'Japonica 6' was registered in Philippines and would be adaptable to the diverse regions of tropical Asia (Registration No in Philippines. BPI-NSIC-2017-Rc 484SR).
The endeavors enhancing the grain quality of high-yielding japonica rice were steadily continued during 1980s-1990s along with the self-sufficiency of rice production and the increasing demands of high-quality rices. During this time, considerably great progress and success was obtained in development of high-quality japonica cultivars and quality evaluation techniques including the elucidation of interrelationship between the physicochemical properties of rice grain and the physical or palatability components of cooked rice. In 1990s, some high-quality japonica rice cultivars and special rices adaptable for food processing such as large kernel, chalky endosperm, aromatic and colored rices were developed and its objective preference and utility was also examined by a palatability meter, rapid-visco analyzer and texture analyzer, Recently, new special rices such as extremely low-amylose dull or opaque non-glutinous endosperm mutants were developed. Also, a high-lysine rice variety was developed for higher nutritional utility. The water uptake rate and the maximum water absorption ratio showed significantly negative correlations with the K/Mg ratio and alkali digestion value(ADV) of milled rice. The rice materials showing the higher amount of hot water absorption exhibited the larger volume expansion of cooked rice. The harder rices with lower moisture content revealed the higher rate of water uptake at twenty minutes after soaking and the higher ratio of maximum water uptake under the room temperature condition. These water uptake characteristics were not associated with the protein and amylose contents of milled rice and the palatability of cooked rice. The water/rice ratio (in w/w basis) for optimum cooking was averaged to 1.52 in dry milled rices (12% wet basis) with varietal range from 1.45 to 1.61 and the expansion ratio of milled rice after proper boiling was average to 2.63(in v/v basis). The major physicochemical components of rice grain associated with the palatability of cooked rice were examined using japonica rice materials showing narrow varietal variation in grain size and shape, alkali digestibility, gel consistency, amylose and protein contents, but considerable difference in appearance and texture of cooked rice. The glossiness or gross palatability score of cooked rice were closely associated with the peak, hot paste and consistency viscosities of viscosities with year difference. The high-quality rice variety "IIpumbyeo" showed less portion of amylose on the outer layer of milled rice grain and less and slower change in iodine blue value of extracted paste during twenty minutes of boiling. This highly palatable rice also exhibited very fine net structure in outer layer and fine-spongy and well-swollen shape of gelatinized starch granules in inner layer and core of cooked rice kernel compared with the poor palatable rice through image of scanning electronic microscope. Gross sensory score of cooked rice could be estimated by multiple linear regression formula, deduced from relationship between rice quality components mentioned above and eating quality of cooked rice, with high probability of determination. The $\alpha$-amylose-iodine method was adopted for checking the varietal difference in retrogradation of cooked rice. The rice cultivars revealing the relatively slow retrogradation in aged cooked rice were IIpumbyeo, Chucheongyeo, Sasanishiki, Jinbubyeo and Koshihikari. A Tonsil-type rice, Taebaegbyeo, and a japonica cultivar, Seomjinbyeo, showed the relatively fast deterioration of cooked rice. Generally, the better rice cultivars in eating quality of cooked rice showed less retrogradation and much sponginess in cooled cooked rice. Also, the rice varieties exhibiting less retrogradation in cooled cooked rice revealed higher hot viscosity and lower cool viscosity of rice flour in amylogram. The sponginess of cooled cooked rice was closely associated with magnesium content and volume expansion of cooked rice. The hardness-changed ratio of cooked rice by cooling was negatively correlated with solids amount extracted during boiling and volume expansion of cooked rice. The major physicochemical properties of rice grain closely related to the palatability of cooked rice may be directly or indirectly associated with the retrogradation characteristics of cooked rice. The softer gel consistency and lower amylose content in milled rice revealed the higher ratio of popped rice and larger bulk density of popping. The stronger hardness of rice grain showed relatively higher ratio of popping and the more chalky or less translucent rice exhibited the lower ratio of intact popped brown rice. The potassium and magnesium contents of milled rice were negatively associated with gross score of noodle making mixed with wheat flour in half and the better rice for noodle making revealed relatively less amount of solid extraction during boiling. The more volume expansion of batters for making brown rice bread resulted the better loaf formation and more springiness in rice breed. The higher protein rices produced relatively the more moist white rice bread. The springiness of rice bread was also significantly correlated with high amylose content and hard gel consistency. The completely chalky and large grain rices showed better suitability far fermentation and brewing. The glutinous rice were classified into nine different varietal groups based on various physicochemical and structural characteristics of endosperm. There was some close associations among these grain properties and large varietal difference in suitability to various traditional food processing. Our breeding efforts on improvement of rice quality for high palatability and processing utility or value-adding products in the future should focus on not only continuous enhancement of marketing and eating qualities but also the diversification in morphological, physicochemical and nutritional characteristics of rice grain suitable for processing various value-added rice foods.ice foods.
This study was conducted to develop a novel salad dressing composite recipe of natural seasoning containing the dried sea tangle($Laminaria$$japonica$) that has a high preference. Sea tangle($Laminaria$$japonica$) is included in the vitamins and minerals, magnesium, calcium, iodine, iron content, such as high, and contained in Sea tangle alginate is not a small conference known as dietary fiber. To manufacture salad dressing with sea tangle, dressing with 0%, 3%, 6%, 9%, and 12% added sea tangle were prepared and tested for quality. The pH tended to increase with the increased sea tangle in addition but in contrast, acidity showed. The 'L' color decreased with added sea tangle, whereas the 'a' and 'b' values increased. Brix measurements increase with added sea tangle. The strength texture results, 0% was the highest, lowest 9%. Bitterness and chewiness texture results, 9% was the highest, lowest 0%. According to the sensory test results, in the topic overall quality 3% was by 3.76 point the highest. But, during total nine clause, in clause six, by 6% was the highest.

Research was initiated to investigate a vegetation characteristics of the species of ground cover plants mixed with herbeceous and woody plants on a cut slope. 4 different ground cover plants (Miscanthus sinensis var. purpurascens, Pennisetum alopecuroides, Festuca arundinacea and Zoysia japonica) were seeded at the same rate of $10.0g/m^2$ with herbaceous plants (Lotus corniculatus var. japonicus, Dianthus sinensis, Aster yomena, Chrysanthemum zawadskii and Coreopsis drummondii L) at the total seeding rate of $7.5g/m^2$ and native woody plants (Lespedeza bicolor Turcz, Indigofera pseudo-tinctoria and Albizzia julibrissin) at the total seeding rate of $7.5g/m^2$, respectively. This experiment was treated with 3 replications on a randomized block design. Data such as surface coverage rate(%), the germinating number, plant height and visual quality were analyzed. There were no statistic differences observed in the soil hardness and the soil moisture content while a significant difference was observed in the surface coverage rate and the germinating number. The surface coverage rate and the germinating number were significantly high in the Pennisetum alopecuroides plot when compared with the Miscanthus sinensis var. purpurascens plot, the Festuca arundinacea plot and the Zoysia japonica plot, respectively from the viewpoint of ground covers. Especially, the surface coverage rate was considerably low in the Festuca arundinacea plot. However, the surface coverage rate and the germinating number were no statistic differences observed in this treatment from the viewpoint of herbaceous and woody plants. Also, both of the plant height and visual quality were high in the Pennisetum alopecuroides plot when compared with the Miscanthus sinensis var. purpurascens plot, the Festuca arundinacea plot and the Zoysia japonica plot, respectively. We concluded that Pennisetum alopecuroides was the optimum plant from the treated ground covers mixed with native woody and herbaceous plants for the balanced emergence from the viewpoint of the ecological slope vegetation.
The aim of this study is selection of the male-sterile plant for inhibiting transgene flow through gamma-irradiation ($^{60}Co$) at the pollination and fertilization cycle of herbicide-tolerant genetically modified (GM) zoysiagrass (Zoysia japonica Steud.). High frequencies of plant mutations were obtained about 18% from $M_1$ generation at the doses (10 to 50 Gy). We also found that some $M_1$ plants showed male-sterile plants using de-husked seeds and comparison of stainable pollen using $KI-I_2$ solution. Besides the effects of irradiation on pollination and fertilization cycle, various other mutations like dwarf, cold tolerance, increasing grains and mass were observed. Four of dwarfism plants were selected through comparison of morphological characteristic between control and mutants during 4 years. These results demonstrated that the gamma-irradiation on pollination and fertilization cycle is very effective to induce the various mutations, and the male-sterile mutants are useful for controlling transgene flow and developing of high quality turfgasses.

② 상기 이용제한 규정에 따라 서비스를 이용하는 회원에게 서비스 이용에 대하여 별도 공지 없이 서비스 이용의
일시정지, 이용계약 해지 할 수 있습니다.
제 17 조 (전자우편주소 수집 금지)
회원은 전자우편주소 추출기 등을 이용하여 전자우편주소를 수집 또는 제3자에게 제공할 수 없습니다.
제 6 장 손해배상 및 기타사항
제 18 조 (손해배상)
당 사이트는 무료로 제공되는 서비스와 관련하여 회원에게 어떠한 손해가 발생하더라도 당 사이트가 고의 또는 과실로 인한 손해발생을 제외하고는 이에 대하여 책임을 부담하지 아니합니다.
제 19 조 (관할 법원)
서비스 이용으로 발생한 분쟁에 대해 소송이 제기되는 경우 민사 소송법상의 관할 법원에 제기합니다.
[부 칙]
1. (시행일) 이 약관은 2016년 9월 5일부터 적용되며, 종전 약관은 본 약관으로 대체되며, 개정된 약관의 적용일 이전 가입자도 개정된 약관의 적용을 받습니다.
