  • Non-stationarity and non-Gaussian property are two of the most important characteristics of wind. These two features are studied in this study based on wind speed records measured at different heights from a 325 m high meteorological tower during the synoptic wind storms. By using the time-frequency analysis tools, it is found that after removing the low frequency trend of the longitudinal wind, the retained fluctuating wind speeds remain to be asymmetrically non-Gaussian distributed. Results show that such non-Gaussianity is due to the weak-stationarity of the detrended fluctuating wind speed. The low frequency components of the fluctuating wind speeds mainly contribute to the non-zero skewness, while distribution of the high frequency component is found to have high kurtosis values. By further studying the decomposed wind speed, the mechanisms of the non-Gaussian distribution are examined from the phase, turbulence energy point of view.

  • This paper presents two new circuit topologies of DC bus lineside active edge resonant snubber assisted soft-switching PWM full-bridge DC-DC converter acceptable for either utility AC 200V-rms or AC 400V-rms input voltage source. One topology of proposed DC-DC converters is composed of a typical voltage source-fed full-bridge high frequency PWM inverter using DC busline side series power semiconductor switching devices with the aid of a parallel capacitive lossless snubber. All the active power switches in the full-bridge arms and DC busline can achieve ZCS turn-on and ZVS turn-off commutations and the total turn-off switching power losses of all active switches can be reduced for high-frequency switching action. It is proved that the more the switching frequency of full-bridge soft switching inverter increases, the more soft-switching PWM DC-DC converter with a hish frequency transformer link has remarkable advantages for its efficiency and power density as compared with the conventional hard-switching PWM inverter type DC-DC converter

  • This study aims to investigate the research trend of elementary environmental education. Thus, author keywords were extracted from a total of 197 academic these related to elementary environmental education during two different periods when detailed goals were applied to the 2007 and 2009 revised curriculums respectively, and then this study analyzed the network of author keywords. The results of this study can be summarized as below. Firstly, as a result of analyzing the frequency of author keywords from academic theses related to elementary environmental education, this study discovered 369 author keywords from the period when detailed goals were applied to 2009 revised curriculum. Out of them, it was found that the keyword, 'climate change education', showed the highest frequency, followed by 'environmental literacy' and 'environmental perception', except such central keywords as 'environmental education' and 'elementary school student'. From the period when detailed goals were applied to the 2007 revised curriculum, a total of 394 author keywords were discovered, and the keyword, 'environmental literacy', showed the highest frequency, followed by 'environmental perception' and 'ESD (education for sustainable development)'. Secondly, as a result of analyzing the network of author keywords, this study found out that in the total number of network connections, average connection degree, density and clique, the period when detailed goals were applied to the 2007 revised curriculum was somewhat higher than the period when detailed goals were applied to the 2009 revised curriculum. As a result of analyzing the centrality of author keywords, this study found out that during both the periods, 'environmental perception' and 'environmental literacy' were high in degree centrality and betweenness centrality, except such central keywords as 'environmental education' and 'elementary school student'. As a result of analyzing the components of author keywords as sub-networks, this study discovered 9 components from the period when detailed goals were applied to the 2009 revised curriculum and 6 components from the period when detailed goals were applied to the 2007 revised curriculum. During both the periods, the largest component was composed of keywords high in degree centrality and betweenness centrality.

  • Weather elements were observed by the AWS (Automatic Weather System) and dustfall particles were collected by the modified American dust jar (wide inlet bottle type) at 4 sampling sites in Busan area from March. 1999 to February, 2000. Thirteen chemical species (Al, Ca, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Ni, Pb, Si, and Zn) were analyzed by AAS and ICP. The purposes of this study were to estimate qualitatively various bulk deposition flux of dustfall and insoluble components by applying regional and seasonal wind intensity. Frequency of wind speed were found in order of low(1-3m/s), very low(<1m/s), medium(3-8m/s) and high(>8m/s), and annual mean had higher range at low(1-3m/s) for 56.3%. Strong negative linear correlation were observed between dustfall and wind direction (northeastern and eastern), but strong positive linear correlation were observed between dustfall and wind direction (western and northwestern) at industrial, commercial and coastal zone(p<0.05). While a negative correlation were observed between wind speed frequency of very low(<1 m/s) and dustfall, and positive correlation were observed between wind speed frequency of low(1-3m/s) and dustfall in coastal zone(p<0.05). The correlation coefficient was observed 0.556 between wind speed frequency of low(1-3m/s) and Ni by commercial zone(p<0.05). The correlation coeffcient show well-defined insoluble trace metals (Al, Ca, Cr, Cu, Fe, Pb, and Zn) and wind speed frequency of low(1-3m/s) at coastal zone, which was found significant difference(p<0.01).

  • Plasma display panel (PDP) has a serious thermal problem, because the luminance efficiency of the conventional PDP is about 1.5 lm/W and it is less than $3{\sim}5$ lm/W of cathode ray tube (CRT). Thus there is a need for improving the luminance efficiency of the PDP There are several approaches to improve the luminance efficiency of the PDP and we adopt the driving PDP at high frequency range from 400 kHz up to over 700 kHz. Since a PDP is regarded as an equivalent inherent capacitance, many types of sustaining drivers have been proposed and widely used to recover the energy stored in the PDP. However, these circuits have some drawbacks for driving PDP at high frequency range. In this paper, we investigate the effect of the parasitic components of PDP itself and driver when the reactive energy of panel is recovered. Various drivers are classified and evaluated whether it is suitable for high frequency driver, and finally current-fed type with do input voltage biased is proposed. This driver overcomes the effect of parasitic component in panel and driver and fully achieves ZVS of all full-bridge switches and reduces the transition time of the panel polarity.

  • A personal low-frequency stimulator is a portable device to relax muscle pains of a person. The stimulator generates combined low-frequency pulses to be applied to pads attached to painful muscles. This paper reports a development of such device with its characteristic analyses. The major components of our stimulator are MCU, high-voltage generating circuit part, high-voltage switching circuit part, input switch part and display unit. High-voltage generating circuit is designed by using a boost converter circuit and allows user control of the output voltage. High-voltage switching circuit, controlled by MCU, generates output voltage to be applied to pads. Input switch part is composed of power supply, intensity selection, mode selection and memory. Display unit adopts a text LCD module to display modes, Intensity, output frequency and user set-up time. Our designed safety circuit, to protect human body from possible electric shock, slowly increases the output voltage to the selected output intensity. It continuously checks the output pulse shape and disable the output when dangerous pulses are detected. This paper also shows some experimental results.

  • A novel empirical mode decomposition strategy based on Fourier transform and band-pass filter techniques, contributing to efficient instantaneous vibration analyses, is developed in this study. Two key improvements are proposed. The first is associated with the adoption of a band-pass filter technique for intrinsic mode function sifting. The primary characteristic of decomposed components is that their bandwidths do not overlap in the frequency domain. The second improvement concerns an attempt to design narrowband constraints as the essential requirements for intrinsic mode function to make it physically meaningful. Because all decomposed components are generated with respect to their intrinsic narrow bandwidth and strict sifting from high to low frequencies successively, they are orthogonal to each other and are thus suitable for an instantaneous frequency analysis. The direct Hilbert spectrum is employed to illustrate the instantaneous time-frequency-energy distribution. Commendable agreement between the illustrations of the proposed direct Hilbert spectrum and the traditional Fourier spectrum was observed. This method provides robust identifications of vibration modes embedded in vibration processes, deemed to be an efficient means to obtain valuable instantaneous information.

  • This paper presents an approach to detect the dielectric condition of FRP Hot Stick in EHV high voltage cable whereas shutting down the power system is not necessary. The radio frequency generating method is adopted by transmitting radio wave into the Electrodes. This instrument is small, easy to use and also inexpensive. Furthermore, the impurity level of dirt on high voltage insulator (non-ceramic type) will be analyzed by using the methods based on IEEE Std.978-1984 at 105 kV.DC. /305 mm. and OSHA Regulation 1910.269 Part J - live line tools. The frequency at 10-20 MHz is applied to FRP Hot Stick via Electrode1 and from FRP Hot Stick surface to Electrode 2. After that the results will be evaluated by testing in each condition of FRP Hot Stick, such as dry surface, hot surface, foil winding and conductor inserting. Finally, the watt loss will be examined and compared with the loss from humidity and Carbon tracking. The important components of this system are radio frequency generating unit, frequency stabilizing unit, frequency amplifier, FRP Hot Stick frequency counter, processing unit, and display unit.

  • In boiler high-temperature pipelines such as main steam pipe, header and steam drum in fossil power plants, conventional measurement techniques(replica method, electric resistance method, and hardness test method) for measuring creep damage have such disadvantages as complex preparation and measurement procedures, too many control parameters. And also, these techniques have low practicality and applied only to component surfaces with good accessibility. It needs to apply a reliable and quantitative ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation method that can be replaced for these equipment. In this study, both artificial creep degradation test using life prediction formula and frequency analysis by ultrasonic tests for crept specimens were carried out for the purpose of nondestructive evaluation for creep damage. As a result of ultrasonic tests for crept specimens, we conformed that the high frequency side spectra decrease and central frequency components shift to low frequency band, and also their bandwidth decreases as increasing creep damage in backwall echos.

  • In this paper, a new high-frequency equivalent circuit model of printed spiral coils (PSCs) for radio-frequency interference (RFI) measurement has been proposed. To achieve high-frequency modeling, the proposed model consists of distributed components designed based on the design parameters of the PSCs. In addition, an analytic model for PSCs based on T-pi conversion has been proposed. To investigate the feasibility of the proposed model for RFI measurement, the transfer function between a microstrip line and a PSC has been extracted by combining the proposed model and mutual inductance. The self-impedances of the proposed model and the transfer function have been successfully validated using three-dimensional field simulation and measurements, revealing noticeable correlations up to a frequency of 6 GHz. The proposed model can be employed for high-frequency probe design and RFI noise estimation in the gigahertz range wireless communication bands.
