To improve the mean-life and reliability of power cables, we have investigated the volume resistivity and thermal properties demonstrated by changing the content of carbon black, an additive of the semiconductive shield for underground power transmission. Nine specimens were made of sheet form for measurement. Volume resistivity of the specimens was measured by a volume resistivity meter after 10 minutes in a preheated oven at temperatures of both 25$\pm$1[$^{\circ}C$] and 90$\pm$ 1[$^{\circ}C$]. As well, specific heat (Cp) and thermal conductivity were measured by Nano Flash Diffusivity and DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry). The ranges of measurement temperature were from 0[$^{\circ}C$] to 200[$^{\circ}C$], and heating temperature was 4[$^{\circ}C$/min]. From these experimental results, volume resistivity was high according to an increase of the content of carbon black. Specific heat was decreased, while thermal conductivity was increased according to a rise in the content of carbon black. Furthermore, both specific heat and thermal conductivity were increased by heating temperature because the volume of materials was expanded according to a rise in temperature.
Unidirectional polymer composites were prepared using high-strength carbon fibers as reinforcement and phenolic resin as matrix precursor with keeping fiber volume fraction at 30, 40, 50 and 60% respectively. These composites were carbonized at $1000^{\circ}C$ and graphitised at $2600^{\circ}C$ in the inert atmosphere. The carbonized and graphitised composites were characterized for mechanical properties as well as microstructure. Microscopic studies were carried out of the polished surface of carbonized and graphitised composites after etching by chromic acid, to understand the effect of fiber volume fraction on oxidation at fiber-matrix interface. It is found that the flexural strength in polymer composites increases with fiber volume fraction and so does for the carbonised composites. However, the trend was found to be reversed in graphitised composites. In all the carbonized composites anisotropic region has been observed at fiber-matrix interface which transforms into columnar type microstructure upon graphitisation. The extension of strong and weak columnar type microstructure is function of fiber volume fraction. SEM microscopy of the etched surface of the sample reveal that composites containing 40% fiber volume has minimum oxidation at the interface, revealing a strong interfacial bonding.

In this study, the adjustment range of mixture factor with replacement mineral admixture was reviewed to secure the mixture change data of high volume concrete compared to general concrete. When changing the concrete mix to high volume concrete within the universal concrete mixing, the adjustment range of mixture to ensure optimum quality is as follows. Unit-water content is $20{\sim}30kg/m^3$ downward. Fine aggregate ratio dropped by approximately 1% when W/B was reduced by 5%, and it is reduced by approximately 0.12% when there is a 5% increase in the total replacement rate. When the FA replacement rate was increased by 5%, the AE agent was approximately 20% to 30% higher compared with the conventional one. When the FA and BS replacement rate rose by 5%, W/B was reduced by about 1 to 4%.

The objective of this study is to examine the fatigue behavior in compression of normal-weight and lightweight concrete mixtures with high volume supplementary cementitious material(SCM). The selected binder composition was 30% ordinary portland cement, 20% fly-ash, and 50% ground granulated blast-furnace slag. The targeted compressive strength of concrete was 40 MPa. For the cyclic loading, the constant maximum stress level varied to be 75%, 80%, and 90% of the static uniaxial compressive strength, whereas the constant minimum stress level was fixed at 10% of the static strength. The test results showed that fatigue life of high volume SCM lightweight concrete was lower than the companion normalweight concrete. The value of the fatigue strain at the maximum stress level intersected the descending branch of the monotonic stress-strain curve after approximately 90% of the fatigue life.

High volume slag concrete is attracting new attention and are thought to have promising potential for industrial applications, partly due to the climate debate, but especially due to their very low heat of hydration and their good durability in chemically aggressive environments. However, High volume slag concretes tend to have slower strength development especially. In this study, the effect of anhydrite ($CaSO_4$) on the mechanical and durability performance of high volume slag concrete were investigated. The main variables were anhydrite contents (0, 4, 6, 8, 10%). Test results show that 4~8% anhydrite concrete have improved engineering properties (hydration, compressive strength, shrinkage, creep, carbonation) as control concrete at early ages.

The goal of this research was evaluating and suggesting the solution of preventing carbonation of concrete replaced high-volume of slag. The concrete mixtures were prepared with high-volume slag and recycled aggregate, and the concrete samples were evaluated the carbonation depth with various surface treatment methods. For various surface treatment methods and surface protecting sheets, bonding strength and carbonation depth were measured. Basically, from the results, the carbonation of concrete was completely prevented with any type of surface treatment method and surface protecting sheet as far as the surface treatment materials were remained. Therefore, in this research, it was known and suggested that the easiness of handling and sufficient bonding performance was much important than the quality of surface protecting sheets.

Ultra high performance concrete is inevitably used in case of skyscraper and super long span bridge. In general, the flexural and the tensile strengths of concrete are lower than the compressive strength, so brittle cracks occur and energy absorption ability is lowered. In order to solve this problem, this study is intended to examine the effect of the steel fiber volume fraction and aspect ratio on the mechanical properties of ultra high performance concrete. In series I, 20-mm straight steel fiber was added with a volume fraction of 0, 1.0, 1.3, 1.5 and 2.0%. In series II, 16-mm steel fiber was added with a volume fraction of 0, 1, and 1.5%, and then mechanical properties were examined according to aspect ratio. In the results of experiment, a difference in compressive strength was insignificant. However, regarding the flexural strength and tensile strength, as the volume fraction and aspect ratio increased, flexural performance and tensile performance improved.

Several samplers using gravimetric methods such as high-volume air sampler, MiniVol portable sampler, personal environmental monitor(PEM) and cyclone were applied to determine the concentrations of fine particles in atmospheric condition. Comparative evaluation between high-volume air sampler and Minivol portable sampler for $PM_{10}$, and between Minivol portable sampler and PEM was undertaken from June, 2003 to January 2004. Simultaneously, meteorological conditions such as wind speed, wind direction, relative humidity and temperature was measured to check the factors affecting the concentrations of fine particles. In addition, particle concentrations by cyclone with an aerodynamic diameter of $4{\mu}m$ were measured. Correlation coefficient between highvolume air sampler and portable air sampler for $PM_{10}$ was 0.79 (p<0.001). However, the mean concentration for $PM_{10}$ by high-volume air sampler was significantly higher than that by Minivol portable sampler (p=0.018). Correlation coefficient between Minivol portable sampler and PEM for $PM_{2.5}$ as 0.74 (p<0.001), and the measured mean concentrations for $PM_{2.5}$ did not show significant difference. Difference of the measured concentrations of fine particle might be explained by wind speed and humidity among meteorological conditions. Particle concentration differences by measurement samplers were proportional to the wind speed, but inversely proportional to the relative humidity, though it was not a significant correlation.
This study was evaluated that fundamental quality properties in the mortar level, as part of a basic study for development of fiber reinforced concrete using basalt fiber. Mortar mixtures used in the experiments used the mortar using cement only and high volume fly ash mortar using fly ash of 50%, was evaluated by comparison. As a experiments results, high volume fly ash mortar using 50% fly ash was effective for improving fiber dispersibility than mortar using cement only, accordingly, it showed that fiber aggregation phenomenon has been greatly reduced. In addition, if the fly ash used much more than 50%, the compressive strength has been shown to decrease of about 30%, fiber length and mixing ratio of basalt fiber was found to have a greater effect on flow properties than mechanical properties.

Recently, the I/O performance of a single node is rapidly improving due to the advent of high-performance SSD. As a result, the next-generation storage platform based on SSD has received a great deal of attention and such storage platforms are increasingly adopted to commodity servers or data centers that look for the high-bandwidth computation and I/O. However, building all SSD-based storage platform may not be cost-effective because the price per storage capacity is very high as compared to that of HDD. In this paper. we propose a hybrid file management solution, called HyPLVM(Hybrid Priority Logical Volume Manager), which combines the strength of SSD with the desirable aspects of low-price, high-storage capacity HDD. HyPLVM prioritizes the files and directories to be accessed by users, in order to determine the target storage device (SSD/HDD) in which files are allocated, while mitigating the cost of building storage platforms.
