Transient Ground Impedance of Small-sized Ground Electrode considering Underground Discharge in Frozen Soil (동결 토양에서 지중방전을 고려한 소규모 전극의 과도접지임피던스 특성)

  • This paper presents the transient impedance in a discharge region when high voltage lightning impulse is applied to small-sized ground electrodes in frozen soil. For a realistic analysis of ionization characteristics near the ground electrode in the soil, ground rod installed outdoors and high voltage impulse voltage generator were used. From the analysis of response voltage and current flowing ground electrode to earth, it was verified that the ionization near the ground electrode contributes to reduction of ground impedance and limits the ground potential rise effectively under high impulse voltage.

  • For studying out the method of the effective purification of waste waters such as dying, paper pulp and plating wastewater, we measured the COD removal efficiency, color and turbidity of those pollutants by the physical and chemical method using the Inorganic Coagulating Agent (CM, RM) and a High Voltage Generator. The COD removal efficiency measured when applying the Inorganic Coagulating Agent (CM, RM) was mush higher than that using the Existing Coagulating Agent In addition to, when using those two methods above mentioned at the same time, both the COD removal efficiency and the reduction-effect of the inserting quantities of Coagulating Agent were higher than those were used singly. The system using both an Inorganic Coagulating Agent and a High Voltage Generator will be useful in various fields of wastewater treatment.

  • The pulsed power system was widely making use good of many industrial and environments. The pulse generator generally required for short pulse duration and high peak value was forced to consider its volume and economy. In this paper, this system is designed and fabricated which has a compact size of pulse generator with switched MOSFET. We have studied the removal of rust material using Arc discharging in pulsed power system. It have tested their characteristics by adjusting variable voltage charging and pulse repetition rate. As a result, We can eliminate rust materials with this device.

  • Electrical breakdown characteristics of liquid nitrogen($LN_2$) taking into consideration for application of high $T_c$ superconductor is very important. Also $LN_2$ will be used as both coolant and insulator in superconducting generator. In this paper, we investigated ac breakdown characteristics of cryogenic nitrogen gas above a $LN_2$ for rod-to plane electrode configuration. As result the breakdown mechanism of $LN_2$is dependence on bubble effect. And breakdown voltage is a ratio on bubble s size but electrodes arrangement is to make no difference. The breakdown voltage decreases slightly with increasing flow velocity, it again decreases abruptly with increasing flow velocity. These results were interpreted as the within pressure of rod electrode and Maxwell force.

  • In this study, the system which can make the generator's output voltage more stable by using the inverter in terms of PWM method, is designed It is one of the method reducing velocity of the wind in the process of the wind power generation. Thus, in this system, it is necessary to use a excellent current control inverter. So pulse with modulation method with a high-speed switching element is introduced to control the output current. And also, in order to get a fast response when the standard current generated by the vector control algorithm is supplied with the generator, the output control system with the fast response character and the best current control character is suggested. In this way, the result from the introduction of the control system is that a response character to the changable velocity of the wind is excellent, causing the remarkable reduction of the percentage of the harmonic and the outstanding stability of the variation of the output voltage.

  • During normal machine operation, partial discharge(PD) measurements were peformed with turbine generator analyzer(TGA) in two high voltage motors(rated 6.6 kV). These high voltage motors were installed with 80 pF capacitive couplers at the terminal box. TGA summarizes each plot with two quantities such as the normalized quantity number(NQN) and the peak PD magnitude (Qm). The trend analyses of NQN and $Q_m$ value are available for monitoring of the insulation condition in stator windings of high voltage motors.

  • A diagnostic fluoroscopy X-ray system uses a 32kW or greater X-ray generator for obtaining real-time moving images and high-resolution images. Fluoroscopy X-ray systems have to use a high-capacity AC power source to perform long-time low-power fluoroscopy and short-time high-power spot exposure. In this paper, we propose a hybrid type X-ray generator for fluoroscopy X-ray system which can perform fluoroscopy and spot exposure with a low-capacity AC power source and an energy storage device. The characteristics of energy storage devices are compared and each energy storage device is modelled to equivalent circuit. And the characteristics of available energy are analyzed as a function of output voltage and power. A 32kW class hybrid X-ray generator with EDLC as an energy storage device for fluoroscopy X-ray system was constructed, and its validity was verified by means of simulations and experiments.

  • In order to improve the reliability of stator windings for hydro generators, it is necessary to detect the defective point and life assessment of the high voltage windings. Especially the on-line partial discharge (PD) test provides the ability to monitor effects, such as slot discharge, internal discharge, and end-winding discharge without interrupting generators, this method has been proven the major testing technology in high voltage rotating machines nowadays. The purpose of this paper is to describe the method of the on-line PD measurement on stator windings for hydro-generator with 13 [kV] class ceramic coupler (CC), on-line PD measuring system, terminal box, and index parameters. Also, the developed PD measuring system and 13 [kV] class CC were installed Daechung-dam generator #2. It was found that this installed sensor and system had good electrical characteristics to detect PD activity during the operating condition with its detection frequency band is between several and several tens MHz.

Development of a 300W Generator for Lightweight Wind Turbine

  • As a population of leisure activities grows and diversifies, there is a great demand for portable and environment-friendly power generation systems. A small wind power generation system is emerging as a suitable power generation equipment to meet these needs. The most important thing when developing a small portable wind turbine is to reduce the weight of the generator and increase the efficiency. The existing 300W wind turbine generator weighs about 10kg, which is heavy to carry. Therefore, a new generator weighing less than 4kg to make it easy to carry with high efficiency has been developed. In addition, considering complicated characteristics of wind volume and topography of Korea, a small wind turbine that can be used in urban and rural areas individually was constructed. Through basic designing and optimization, the lightweight and efficient generator was manufactured. It is a 300W wind turbine designed and fabricated with reduced weight as a prototype. The average output voltage of the generator was 24.7V at 900rpm no-load test. On a load test with the average line voltage 36.8V and the average phase current 2.62A, when the mechanical input was 339.84W, an average voltage output of the generator was measured as 289.5W with efficiency of 85.18%. The generator weight was 3.84kg.

  • The high frequency pulsed power system is widely available for use in high frequency generator applications. We designed and fabricated our own high frequency pulsed power system to obtain very sort pulse width and high peak value and investigated microbe removal characteristics using it. This paper introduces a simple high voltage high frequency pulsed power system for removing various bacteria caused by dirty water. This system include power supply circuit, switching MOSFET, and flyback converter. We can also control the switching using a PIC one chip microprocessor. As a result, we can obtain good removing characteristics of various bacteria by adjusting the charging voltage, the pulse repetition rate and the electrical field inducing time.
