  • In this study, the tensile properties of hybrid fiber reinforced cementitious composites under the high strain rate was evaluated. Experimental results, the HSF1.5PVA0.5 shown the highest tensile strength because the PVA fiber suppressed the micro cracks in the matrix around the hooked steel fiber and improved the pull-out resistance of hooked steel fiber. Thus, DIF of strain capacity and fracture toughness of HSF1.5PVA were greatly improved. Also, the fracture toughness was greatly improved because the tensile stress was slowly decreased after the peak stress by improvement of the pull-out resistance performance of hooked steel fiber at strain rate 101/s.

  • Flexural tests on full-scale H-shaped beams, built up from high-strength steels (HSB800 and HSA800) with a nominal tensile strength of 800 MPa, was carried out to study the effect of flange slenderness of high-strength steel on flexural strength and rotation capacity. The primary objective was to investigate the appropriateness of extrapolating current stability criteria (originally developed for ordinary steel) to high-strength steel. The performance of high-strength steel specimens was very satisfactory from the strength, but not from the rotation capacity, perspective. The inferior rotation capacity of high-strength steel beams was shown to be directly attributable to the absence of a distinct yield plateau and the high yield ratio of the material. Residual stress measurements reconfirmed that the magnitude of the residual stress is almost independent of the yield stress of the base metal.

  • A brief overview is given of the development of various structural steels and their welding application technology. Firstly, the general characteristics and welding performance of structural steels used in architecture and bridge are introduced. For safety against earthquakes or strong wind, and for highly efficient welding in high-rise building constructions, ultra high strength steel with tensile strength over 800 MPa or high HAZ toughness steel plates under high heat input welding have been developed. In particular, efficient welding technology ensuring high resistance to cold and hot cracking of ultra high strength steel is reviewed in the present paper. Secondly, various coated steels used mainly for outer part in construction are briefly discussed. Moreover, a major drawback of coated steel during welding operation, and several solutions to overcome such technical problem are proposed. It is hoped that this review paper can lead to significant academic contributions and provide readers interested in the structural steels with useful welding technology.

  • The following results were obtained, microstructures and tensile properties in arc brazed joints of DP(dual phase) steel using Cu-5.3wt%Sn insert metal was investigated as function of brazing current. 1) The Fusion Zone was composed of ${\alpha}Fe+{\gamma}Cu$ and Cu23Sn2. The reason for the formation of these solid solutions. Despite, Fe & Cu were impossible to solid solution at room temperature. It's melting & reaction to something of insert metal & Base Metal (DP Steel) by Arc. Brazing Process has faster cooling rate then Cast Process, Supersaturated solid solution at room temperature. 2) The increase Hardness of Fusion Zone was directly proportional to the rise of welding current. Because, ${\alpha}Fe+{\gamma}Cu$ phase (higher hardness than the Cu23Sn2.(104.1Hv < 271.9Hv)) Volume fraction was Growth, due to increasing the amount of base metal melting by High current. 3) The results of tensile shear test by Brazing, All specimens happen to fracture in Fusion Zone. On the other hand, when Brazing Current increasing tend to rise tensile load. but it was very small, about 26-30% of the base metal. 4) The result of fracture analysis, The crack initiate at Triple Point for meet to Upper B.M/Under B.M/Fusion Zone. This Crack propagated to Fusion zone. So ruptured by tensile strength. The Reason to in the fusion zone fracture, Fusion zone by Brazing of hardness (strength) was very lower then the base metal (DP steel). In addition the Fusion Zone's thickness in triple point was thin than the base metal's thickness in triple point.

  • Ultra-high strength concrete which have 100 MPa compressive strength or higher can be developed applying RPC(Reactive Powder Concrete). Preventing brittle failure under compression and tension, ultra-high strength concrete usually use the steel fibers as reinforcements. For the effective use of steel fiber reinforced ultra-high strength concrete, estimation of tensile strength is very important. However, there are insufficient research results are available with no relation between them. Therefore, in this study, correlation between compressive strength and tensile strength of ultra-high strength concrete was investigated by test and statistical analysis. According to test results, increasing tendency of tensile strength was also shown in the range of ultra-high strength. Evaluation of test results of this study and collected test results were carried out. Using 284 splitting test specimens and 265 flexural test specimens, equations suggested by previous researchers cannot be applied to ultra-high strength concrete. Therefore, using database and test results, regression analysis was carried out and we suggested new equation for splitting and flexural tensile strength of steel fiber reinforced ultra-high strength concrete.

  • This study is deal with the high frequency induction hardening (HF at $850^{\circ}C$, 120kHz & 50kW condition) SM45C steel. (1) The HF specimen which was tempered at $150^{\circ}C$, did not appear any tempering effect. A brittle fracture occurred at rounded area of the tensile specimen. AE amplitude distribution showed between 45~60dB. (2) The HF specimen which was tempered at $300^{\circ}C$, slip and fracture occurred at the hole area of the tensile specimen. As it passes the yield point, the AE energy increased intermittently and AE amplitude distribution showed between 70~85dB. In addition, after the maximum tensile load, it showed high amplitude and energy distribution. The AE amplitude showed between 45~70dB. (3) The HF specimen which was tempered at $450^{\circ}C$, a brittle fracture occurred as if it is torn in the direction of $45^{\circ}$ on parallel area over the both sides of the tensile specimen, which led to several peak to be appeared in AE energy. It was found that the AE amplitude was relatively low and the AE energy was high.

  • The effects of annealing temperature and time on mechanical properties and microstructures were investigated in cold drawn pearlitic steel wires. During annealing, the increment of the tensile strength at low temperatures found to be due to age hardening, while the decrease in the tensile strength at high temperatures was attributed to age softening, involving the spheroidization of lamellar cementite and recovery of lamellar ferrite. Since tensile strength and the occurrence of the delamination would be closely related to the dissolution of cementite, the lower annealing temperature and the increase of drawing strain caused the higher tensile strength and the easier occurrence of the delamination in cold drawn pearlitic steel wires.

  • In the present study, the mechanical behavior of the spray-formed high speed steel was investigated employing the internal variable theory of inelastic deformation. Special attention was focused on the effect of the microstructure evolution during the hot working process, such as the distribution of carbides to provide a basic database for the production condition of high speed steels with excellent properties. The billets of high speed steel ASP30TM were fabricated by a spray forming, and the subsequently hot-rolled and heat-treated process to obtain uniformly distributed carbide structure. As noted the spray-formed high speed steel showed relatively coarser carbides than hot-rolled and heat-treated one with fine and uniformly distributed carbide structure. The step strain rate tests and high temperature tensile tests were carried out on both the spray-formed and the hot-rolled specimens, to elucidate their high temperature deformation behavior. The spray-formed high speed steel showed much higher flow stress and lower elongation than the hot-rolled and heat-treated steel. During the tensile test at $900^{\circ}C$, the interruption of the deformation for 100 seconds was conducted to reveal that the recovery was a main dynamic deformation mechanism of spray formed high speed steel. The internal variable theory of the inelastic deformation was used to analyze data from the step strain rate tests, revealing that the activation energies for hot deformation of as-spray-formed and hot-worked steels, which were 157.1 and 278.9 kJ/mol, and which were corresponding to the dislocation core and lattice diffusions of ${\gamma}-Fe$, respectively.

  • This study is to look at the effect for deformation of carbon steel for high-presure pipe, on the AE signals produced by tensile test. Acoustic emission(AE) has been widely used in various fields because of its extreme sensitivity, dynamic detection ability and location of growing defects. We investigated a relationship failure mode and AE signals by tensile test, From the tensile test, we could divide into four ranges of the failure modes of elastic range, yield range, plastic range before $\sigma$u, plastic range after $\sigma$u. And failure behaviors of elastic range, yield range, plastic range before $\sigma$u, plastic range after $\sigma$u could be evaluated in tensile test by AE counts, accumulation counts and time frequency analysis. It is expected to be basic data that can protect a risk according to tensile test and bending of pipe material for pressure vessel, as a real time test of AE.

  • A marine structural material was well known to have high tensile strength, good weldability and proper corrosion resistance. Cu-containing high strength low alloy(HSLA) steel was recently developed for their purposes mentioned above. And the steel is free about preheating for welding, therefore it is reported that shipbuilding cost by using it can be saved more or less. However the marine structural materials like Cu-containing HSLA steel are being generally adopted with cathodic protection method in severe corrosive environment like natural sea water but the high strength steel may give rise to Hydrogen Embrittlement due to over protection at high cathodic current density for cathodic protection. In this study Cu-containing HSLA steel using well for marine atructure was investigated about the susceptibility of Hydrogen Embrittlement as functions of tensile strength, strain ratio, fracture time, and fracture mode, etc. and an optimum cathodic protection potential by slow strain rate test(SSRT) method as well as corrosion properties in natural sea water. And its corrosion resistance was superior to SS400 steel, but Hydrogen Embrittlement susceptibility of Cu-containing HSLA steel was higer than that of SS400 steel. However Hydrogen Embrittlement of its steel by SSRT method was showed with pheonomena such as decreasing of fracture time, strain ratio and fracture mode of QC(quasi-cleavage). Eventually it is suggested that an optimum cathodic protection potential not presenting Hydrogen Embrittlement of Cu-containing of HSLA steel by SSRT method was from-770mv(SCE) to - 900mV(SCE)under natural sea water.
