  • This paper is experimental study on the flexural strength and ductility capacity of reinforced high-strength concrete beams using fly ash artificial lightweight concrete beams and five reinforced high-strength normal concrete beams with different tensile reinforcement ratio were tested to investigate their behavior. Test result show that the ratio of flexural strength between experimetal results and those by ACI code decrease as the compressive strength of concrete increase. Also, The reinforced concrete beams behave more brittly than those with equal reinforcement ratio($\rho$/$\rho$b) as the compressive strength of concrete increase.

  • Recently, large and high-rise buildings are increasing, and accordingly, concrete weight reduction is required. Lightweight aggregate concrete can provide economic feasibility and large space, but safety can be reduced due to problems such as low strength and poor durability. Since the development of such low strength of concrete is important in the early construction stage, it is necessary to evaluate the vertical formwork demolding period at the early age. The correlation was analyzed by measuring the compressive strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity. As a result, the ultrasonic pulse rates of normal and lightweight aggregate concrete at the time of 5 MPa expression, which is the time of vertical mold deformation, were 3.07 km/s and 2.77 km/s for W/B 41, and 2.89 km/s and 2.73 km/s for W/B 33.

  • The object of this study is investigated to flexural behavior of structural deck plate composite slabs using high-strength lightweight concrete. Test variables are concrete compressive strength (normal weight concrete 210kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, lightweight concrete 270, 350kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$), topping concrete thickness (70, 75mm when span is 3.4m), deck plate depth (50, 75mm when topping concrete thickness is 70mm and span is 3.4m) and span(3.0, 3.4m). Test results are compared with current ACI Building Code(318-95). The test results are follows ; (1) a value of Ptest/Pcal is 1.27~1.39, (2) a mean value of $\delta$test/ $\delta$ACI is, 0.60 when deflection is reatched to maximam permissible computed deflection (L/360), and (3) ductility index are 3.61~6.85.

  • Dredged silt from reservoirs in southern Taiwan was sintered to make lightweight aggregates (LWA), which were then used to produce high-performance lightweight aggregate concrete (HPLWC). The HPLWC was manufactured using different amounts of mixing water (140, 150, and 160 $kg/m^3$) and LWA of different particle densities (700, 1100, and 1500 $kg/m^3$) at different W/b ratios (0.28, 0.32, and 0.4). Results show that the lightweight aggregates of dredged silt taken in southern Taiwan perform better than the general lightweight aggregates. In addition, the HPLWC possessed high workability with a slump of 230-270 mm, and a slump flow of 450-610 mm, high compressive strength of over 40 MPa after 28 days of curing, good strength efficiency of cement exceeding $0.1MPa/kg/m^3$, low thermal conductivity of 0.4-0.8 $kcal/mh^{\circ}C$, shrinkage of less than $4.8{\times}10^{-4}$, and high electrical resistivity of above 40 $k{\Omega}-cm$. The above findings prove that HPLWC made from dredged silt can help enhance durability of concrete and provide and an ecological alternative use of dredged silt.

  • The microstructure and mechanical properties of concrete will degrade significantly at high temperatures, thus affecting the bond strength between reinforcing steel and surrounding concrete in reinforced concrete members. In this study, the effect of individual and hybrid fiber on the local bond-slip behavior of lightweight aggregate concrete (LWAC) after exposure to elevated temperatures was experimentally investigated. Tests were conducted on local pullout specimens (150 mm cubes) with a reinforcing bar embedded in the center section. The embedment lengths of the pullout specimens were 4.2 times the bar diameter. The parameters investigated included concrete type (control group: ordinary LWAC; experimental group: fiber reinforced LWAC), concrete strength, fiber type, and targeted temperature. The test results showed that for medium-strength LWACs exposed to high temperatures, the use of only steel fibers did not significantly increase the residual bond strength. Moreover, the addition of individual and hybrid fiber had little effect on the residual bond strength of the high-strength LWAC after exposure to a temperature of 800℃.

  • As construction industry is requiring competitive power and technique in national construction market with rapid fluctuation of construction environment and development, requirements upgrading performance in construction materials are increasing. But, national lightweight aggregate and lightweight concrete's inappropriateness when produced are also increasing. And there are not international standard of aggregates in using these construction materials because standards and characteristics of aggregate in each countries are different. Therefore, in this study, lightweight aggregate acquired due to wide range of use is tested and mixed for concrete to gain practicality and set the authorized manual in international. Also, basic data will be proposed to set a standard for concrete by analyzing lightweight aggregate characteristics. When lightweight aggregate absorptivity is high, concrete shows low strength and when it's density is low, concrete shows low weight of unit volume. Furthermore, compressive strength of lightweight aggregate is steep in first and longtime material age is tendency to cause low strength increasing rate.

  • The purpose of this study is to put to practical use the economical high-strength lightweight concrete manufactured by domestic materials, through the analysis on the properties of lightweight concrete with the natural zeolite and mud stone abundant in domestic and compare them with those with silica fume. As a result, it was possible to gain proper workability in the lightweight concrete with admixtures through using the superplasticizer. the optimum replacement rate of zeolite and mud stone powder is respectively 5~10%, 10~15% on unit-cement amount. The strength development rate for plain concrete is 27%, 18% at optimum replacement rate.

  • Recently, the study on mix design of lightweight concrete using the polystyrene foam balls is put into practice from the viewpoint to grade up the quality of concrete and recyclable usage of industrial by products. Polystyrene aggregate concrete, PAC, can be used as structural concrete in low strength application. For instance, PAC could be used in the middle part of sandwich panel where stresses are generally low and in the case of grid-type reinforcement where it does not need high bond strength but little compressive strength to resist the pressure of transverse reinforcement. From this point of view, the authors discussed the influence of fluidity and compressive strength of concrete by the difference of the volume percentage of polystyrene foam balls and water cement ratio.

  • In these days, properties of concrete has been demanded to be high performance because concrete structure was bigger and higher. So studies on high strength concrete and lightweight concrete has been frequently done. But lightweight concrete has been used to limited non-structural elements in th country. Lightweight aggregate mixed with lightweight concrete was only coarse aggregate in case of the structural lightweight concrete. In the country studies on the lightweight concrete was poor and unvaried. Also it is difficult to be practical use of lightweight concrete was that it has been expensive. It was study on the using fine lightweight aggregate with lightweight concrete to crushed by-products and wastes to get to make foamed glass with recycled glass. So it was tested by fine aggregate standard and mixed with.
