  • Lightweight concrete is known for its advantage of reducing the self-weight of the structures, reducing the areas of sectional members as well as making the construction convenient. Thus the construction cost can be saved when applied to structures such as long-span bridge and high rise buildings. However, the lightweight concrete requires specific mix design method that is quite different from the typical concrete, since using the typical mix method would give rise the material segregation as well as lower the strength by the reduced weight of the aggregate. In order to avoid such problems, it is recommended to apply the mix design method of self-compacting concrete for the lightweight concrete. Experimental tests were performed as such compressive strength, dry shrinkage and carbonation of high strength lightweight self-compacting concrete.

  • This study is peformed to develop high strength lightweight concrete using synthetic lightweight coarse aggregate. The following conclusions are drawn; The unit weight is in the range of $1,855{\sim}1,883kgf/m^{3}$, which has showed about 75% that of normal cement concrete. The compressive strength is in the range of $240{\times}249kgf/cm^{2}$, the tensile strength is in the range of $30{\sim}33kgf/cm^{2}$ and the bending strength is in the range of $41{\sim}50kgf/cm^{2}$ at the age 7days. The high strength lightweight concrete which is contained fly ash within 10% is showed highest strength.

  • Lightweight aggregate is a porous material that has a lower density than natural aggregate and is a lightweight construction material. Lightweight Aggregate has a suitable purpose because it is effective in reducing the heavy unit mass in high-rise buildings. However, since lightweight aggregate has weak strength and high water absorption compared to natural aggregate, it is difficult to control the quality of concrete. Although lightweight aggregate has disadvantages such as high water absorption, it is expected that the demand for lightweight aggregate concrete will continue to use in the future because the advantage of being able to reduce the weight of concrete is greater. In this study, we conducted an experimantal study on the compressive strength property of cement matrix according to the type of lightweight aggregate.

  • The various properties of concrete have been required, as civil engineering structures are getting larger and complicated. Therefore, the high performance of concrete, such as high strength, high fluidity, and low hydration heat, has been investigated largely. In this study, the properties of lightweight concrete-reducing self-weight of structure member have been studied in order to check the applicability of lightweight aggregate concrete to structural material. The experiments on compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, unit weight, and modulus of elasticity have been conducted with varying PLC, LWCI, LWCII, LWCII-SF5, LWCII-SF15 to check the basic properties. The compressive strength of 21MPa was obtained easily by using lightweight aggregate concrete and the addition of silica fume to increase the compressive strength slightly. To use lightweight aggregate concrete for civil engineering structures, systematic and rigorous studies are necessary.

  • We experimented variables of four kinds(a/d=1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5) of shear span ratio to consider a structural characteristic of high-strength lightweight concrete beam used industrial by-product. Through the research of serials, the more increase of shear span ratio, the more ductility is superior. Rating the capacity of high-strength concrete beam and the capacity of lightweight concrete beam, in existing lightweight concrete beam evaluation formula, if a shear strength formula for normal concrete multiplies 0.85(reduction factor), it is rated as safety side over shear span ratio 2.5, but it is riskful at low shear span ratio. Therefore it is important that these factors are considered as the evaluation.

  • Interfacial transition zone (ITZ)은 골재-시멘트 복합체 사이의 영역으로써, 콘크리트에서 가장 취약한 영역으로 알려져 있으며, 이는 점진적으로 변화하는 불균질한 상으로 이루어져 있다. 경량 고강도 콘크리트 개발을 위해 물-바인더 비가 낮은 고강도 시멘트 복합체와 경량골재 사이의 Interfacial transition zone (ITZ)의 역학적 특성 평가는 필수적이다. 하지만 ITZ는 복잡하고 다공성 구조를 가지고 있기 때문에, 이의 역학적 특성은 아직 명확하지 않다. 또한, 경량골재 ITZ는 일반골재보다 다양한 변수 (물-바인더 비, 골재의 흡수율, 양생조건 등)에 의해 변화한다. 따라서 본 연구에서 골재의 종류 및 크기에 따른 ITZ의 역학적 특성을 분석하고자 한다. 이를 위해 나노 인덴테이션 기법을 이용하여 물-바인더 비가 0.2인 고강도 시멘트 복합체와 표준사 및 최대치수가 각각 2mm, 5mm인 경량골재 ITZ의 탄성계수를 측정하였다.

  • 경량기포콘크리트란 시멘트슬러리 속에 미리 생성된 기포를 혼합시켜 양생시킴으로써 동일한 체적의 보통콘크리트보다 가볍게 만든 콘크리트를 의미한다. 본 연구의 목적은 고분자기포제를 이용하여 초경량성과 타설에 충분한 유동성을 확보하면서 소요강도를 갖는 최적의 선기포방식의 경량기포콘크리트를 개발하는데 있다. 연구결과 실리카흄, 플라이애쉬 등의 혼화재와 산업부산물인 발포포리스티렌비드의 혼합으로 경량기포콘크리트의 역학적 특성을 개선시켜 기존의 선기포방식으로 제조된 경량기포콘크리트보다 유동성 , 경량성과 강도특성이 우수한 경량기포콘크리트를 개발하였다. 본 논문에서는 개발된 경량기포콘크리트의 여러 가지 배합인자에 따른 유동성 및 압축강도를 규명하였으며 최적 배합비를 도출하였다.

석탄회 인공경량골재를 사용한 고강도 콘크리트 보의 전단성능 (Shear Performance of High-Strength Reinforced Concrete Beams using Fly-Ash Artificial Lightweight Aggregate)

  • This study is to investigate experimentally the shear capacity of high-strength lightweight-aggregate reinforced concrete beams subjected to monotonic loading. Ten beams made of fly-ash artificial lightweight high-strength concrete were tested to determine their diagonal cracking and ultimate shear capacities. The variables in the test program were longitudinal reinforcement ratio; which variabled (between 0.83 and 1.66 percent), shear span-to-depth ratio (a/d=1.5, 2.5 and 3.5), and web reinforcement(0, 0.137, 0.275 and 0.554 percent). Six of the test beams had no web reinforcement and the other six had web reinforcement along the entire length of the beam. Most of beams failed brittly by distinct diagonal shear crack, and have reserved shear strength due to the lack of additional resisting effect by aggregate interlocking action after diagonal cracking. Test results indicate that the ACI Building Code predictions of Eq. (11-3) and (11-5) for lightweight concretes are unconservative for beams with tensile steel ratio of 1.66, a/d ratios greater than 2.5 without web reinforcement. Through a more rational approach to compute the contribution of concrete to the shear capacity, a postcracking shear strength in concrete is observed.

  • Recently, it tend to increase the high-rise and large-scale of buildings and the developtment of construction technology can to be applied reinforced concrete structures to high-rise buildings. However, when a high-rise buildings is constructed with reinforced concrete, it has a disadvantage that buildings weight increases. In order to resolve the weight of reinforced concrete structures, various types of lightweight aggregates become development and research. Although lightweight aggregates can be reduced the weight of concrete, the strength of ITZ(Interfacial Transition Zone) is lowered due to its less strength than natural aggregates. In this study, an experimental study was conducted to coat the surface of lightweight aggregates with GGBFS(ground granulated blast furnace slag) to improve the strength of cement matrix mixed with lightweight aggregates. Result of this experimental study shows that the compressive strnegth of the surface coating lightweight aggregates was higher than general lightweight aggregates. Also, it was considered that this is because the pore at the ITZ of the surface-coated lightweight aggregates mixed cement matrix are filled with GGBFS fine particle.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigarte the mix design method and the mechanical properties of High stength Lightweight Concrete (HSLC). In the experment, concrete mixing was conducted to select the optimum mix design for HSLC in laboratory. Also, concrete mixing in ready mix design. As a result, it is possible to establish the mix design of HSLC according to the using these experimental results ;the estimate equation for unit weight of HSLC. the relationship between W/C and compressive strength of HSLC and the fluidity of HSLC in the view of workability
