The double split tee connection, a type of beam-to-column moment connection, exhibits different behavioral characteristics according to changes in the thickness of the T-stub flange, the gauge distance of the high-strength bolt, and the number and diameter of high-strength bolts. In general, the double split tee connection is idealized and designed so that a T-stub fastened to the top and bottom supports a flexural moment, and a shear tab supports a shear force. However, if the double split tee connection is applied to low-and medium-rise steel structures, the size of the beam member becomes small, and thus the shear tab cannot be bolted to the web of a beam. In this regard, this study was conducted to propose connection details to ensure that the double split tee connection with a geometric shape can display sufficient shear resisting capacity. To this end, experiments were conducted using full-scale specimens for the double split tee connection.
Extended end-plate connections(EEPC) are a type of connection applied in Pre-Engineered Building structures comprising beam-column connections of steel structures or tapered members. Extended end-plate connections(EEPC) show different behavioral characteristics owing to the influence of plate thickness, gauge distance of high strength bolt, diameter of high strength bolt frame, and the number of high strength bolts. In the USA and Europe, extended end-plate connections(EEPC) are applied in beam-column connections of steel structures in various forms; however, these are not widely applied in structures in Korea. This can be attributed to the fact that the proposal of design strength types for extended end-plate connections(EEPC), proposal of connection specifications, evaluation of seismic performance, and are not being performed appropriately. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to provide basic data for the domestic application of Unstiffened extended endplate connections. To realize this, nonlinear finite element analysis was conducted on a 12-mm thick Unstiffened extended endplate connections.

This paper provides the results of an experimental investigation into the flexural behavior of continuous two-span unbonded post-tensioned high strength concrete (HSC) beams, strengthened by end-anchored CFRP laminates of different configurations in the hogging region. Implementing two different configurations of end-anchorage systems consisting of steel plates and bolts and carefully monitoring the development of strains throughout the load history using sufficiently large number of strain gauges, the response of beams including the observed crack propagations, beam deflection, modes of failure, capacity enhancement at service and ultimate and the amount of moment redistribution are measured, presented and discussed. The study is appropriate in the sense that it covers the more commonly occurring two span beams instead of the simply supported beams investigated by others. The experiments reconfirmed the finding of others that proper installation of composite strengthening system is most important in the quality of the bond which is essential for the internal transfer of forces. It was also found that for the tested two span continuous beams, the capacity enhancement is more pronounced at the serviceability level than the ultimate. This is an important finding as the design of these beams is mostly governed by the serviceability limit state signifying the appropriateness of the suggested strengthening method. The paper provides quantitative data on the amount of this capacity enhancement.
In this study, the finite element analysis using joint elements, bolt elements, and shell elements is presented to investigate the behavior of bolted connections. The contact of plates and the high-strength, pretensioned bolts are simply idealized by joint elements and bolt elements, respectively. The initial stiffness is determined through the presented method and the non-linear analysis is archived by a constant-arc-length method based on Newton-Raphson method. The analysis results of a semi-rigid connection(web & flange angles) and a moment connection (shear & moment plates) demonstrate the exactness and applicability of the presented method. And the results indicates that the consideration of slip and 3-dimensional deformation is needed for an accurate prediction of bolted connections.

Ti alloys are used in a wide range of applications, especially for aviation and medical purposes, because of their high specific strength and excellent corrosion properties. When subjected to various manufacturing processes, one of the most popular Ti alloys, Ti-6Al-4V, exhibits a variety of microstructural and mechanical properties that makes it an attractive lightweight metal. The purpose of this study was to analyze the microstructure and mechanical properties of Ti alloy wires. Subsequently, the microstructure and electrochemical behavior of Ti alloy bolts produced from these wires were analyzed. The Ti alloy wires are manufactured with different diameters (6.22, 7.81 mm alloys), and their microstructures are measured using electron backscatter diffraction. Recrystallization was observed to occur significantly in the 7.81 alloy than in the 6.81 alloy, and the strain distribution of 7.81 alloy is seen to be likely more uniform than 6.22 alloy. Ti alloy bolt was then forged under moderate temperature by using the 7.81 alloy. Results of the electrochemical analysis indicate that the Ti alloy bolt has excellent corrosion resistance.
The maximum drifts are important to the seismic evaluation of steel buildings and connections, but the information can hardly be obtained from the post-earthquake field investigation. This research studies the feasibility of using the loss rate of bolt pretension as an earthquake damage predictor. Full-scale tests were made on four steel connections using bolted-web-welded-flange details. One connection was unreinforced (UN), another was reinforced with double shear plates (DS), and the other two used reduced beam sections (RBS). The preinstalled strain gauges were used to control the pretensions and monitor the losses of the high-strength bolts. The results showed that the loss rate of bolt pretension was highly related to the damage of the connections. The pretensions lost up to 10% in all the connections at the yield drifts of 0.5% to 1%. After yielding of the connections, the pretensions lost significantly until fracture occurred. The UN and DS connections failed with a maximum drift of 4 %, and the two RBS connections showed better ductility and failed with a maximum drift of 6%. Under the far-field-type loading protocol, the loss rate grew to 60%. On the contrary, the rate for the specimen under near-fault-type loading protocol was about 40%. The loss rate of bolt pretension is therefore recommended to use as an earthquake damage predictor. Additionally, the 10% and 40% loss rates are recommended to predict the limit states of connection yielding and maximum strength, respectively, and to define the performance levels of serviceability and life-safety for the buildings.
In general, most of the beam-to-column connections for steel structures are regarded as either rigid connections or pin connections. Recently, the concept of a semi-rigid connection was introduced for a correct analysis of steel structures. Several experimental and theoretical researches have been performed regarding the structural behaviors of frames and buildings with semi-rigid connections. The results are not well known, and structural frame/building has not been designed to introduce the concept of semi-rigid connections between a beam and column until this time. To resolve this, this research depends on design specifications prepared by other advanced countries for the design of buildings with semi-rigid connections. Such a specification, however, should incorporate domestic characteristics of steel material properties and load conditions. This paper deals with structural capacities and deformable behaviors for a split-T tensile connection with F10T high-strength bolts to investigate the structural characteristics of semi-rigid frames. The experimental parameters include the thickness of T-flanges, painted or not, preloaded or not, and load pushover pattern. A total of 20 specimens were fabricated and tested with a 300-ton UTM. The structural capacities and behavior for split-T tensile connections were evaluated on each research parameter.
In this study, the static and the fatigue tests were performed with high tension bolted joints, of which the surfaces were spread with inorganic zinc-primer after shot-blast, and milling surface, and steel-natural surface, difference of friction surface condition were examined by comparing the esults of tests. From the result of synthetical investigation of this study. it is proper that using the torque management method in order to introduce design axial force to blots, and the provision of specifications that initial axial forces must be 110% of design axial forces is proper. Decreasing ratio of axial forces to initial force is proportional to common lorgarithms of time progress, it converge constant value after 20 hours, and decreasing ratio is little related to the roughness of friction surface. Sliding coefficient of milling, spreading inorganic zinc-primer, just producting is great in order and sliding forces are dependent on the applied axial forces, but if the applied axial forces are great, sliding coefficient become small by a loss of roughness. So it is confirmed that relation between the applied axial forces and the sliding forces are not proportional linearly. From the result of estimation on fatigue strength, all specimens satisfy the specifications with B-grade and milling surface is lower than the others about 14% in fatigue strength because in milling surface lose the function of friction-types joints at lower number of cycles. From the result of eximination for the distribution area of compressive force, friction area near to inside bolt is wider in the direction of stress than near to outside. It is guessed that this situation occurs because outside bolts firstly change from the friction connection to the bearing connection.
In this paper, conceptual structural design of the main wing for a small scale WIG(Wing in Ground Effect) among high speed ship projects, which will be a high speed maritime transportation system for the next generation in Rep. of Korea, was performed. The Carbon/Epoxy material was selected for the major structure, and the skin-spar with a foam sandwich structural type was adopted for improvement of lightness and structural stability. As a design procedure for the present study, firstly the design load was estimated through the critical flight load case study, and then flanges of the front and rear spars from major bending loads and the skin and the spar webs from shear loads were preliminarily sized using the netting rule and the rule of mixture. Stress analysis was performed by a commercial FEA code, NASTRAN. From the stress analysis results for the first designed wing structure, it was confirmed that the upper skin between the front spar and the rear spar was unstable fer the buckling. Therefore in order to solve this problem, a middle spar and the foam sandwich type structure at the skin and the web were added. After design modification, the structural safety and stability for the final design feature was confirmed. In addition to this, the insert bolt type structure with eight high strength bolts to fix the wing structure to the fuselage was adopted for easy assembly and removal as well as in consideration of more than 20 years fatigue life.

The present study provides structural design and analysis of main wing and horizontal tail of a small scale WIG(Wing in Ground Effect) vehicle which has been developed as a part of the high speed maritime transportation system for the future of Korea. Weight saving as well as structural stability could be achieved by skin-spar with foam sandwich design and with wide application of carbon/epoxy composite material. A commercial FEM code, NASTRAN, was utilized to confirm the structural safety and stability through sequential design modifications to meet the final design goal. In addition, each wing and the fuselage were fastened together by eight insert bolts with high strength to accomodate easy assembling and disassembling as well as to guarantee a service life longer than 20 years.
