  • In this study, we analyze the electrical optical characteristics of transparent glass for photovoltaic and glass-glass module application. The elemental facts from raw glass to laminated glass with solar cells are analyzed using UV spectrophotometer and spectroradiometer. From the data of transmittance and reflectance, the optimum PV module processing condition and selection of material for fabrication should be considered deeply for obtaining high module efficiency. Also we introduce two glasses which has 2%$\sim$4% higher transmittance using coating technology with anti-reflection material. From this experiment, we try to give some basic information for PV module manufacturing industry. The detail description is specified as the following paper.

  • Damage of forest fire should be investigated quickly and accurately for recovery, compensation and prevention of secondary disaster. Using remotely sensed data, burn severity is investigated based on the difference of reflectance or spectral indices before and after forest fire. Recently, the use of high resolution satellite and UAV imagery is increasing, but it is not easy to obtain an image before forest fire that cannot be predicted where and when. This study tried to analyze availability of high-resolution images and supervised classifiers on the burn severity classification. Two supervised classifiers were applied to the KOMPSAT-3A image and the UAV multispectral image acquired after the forest fire. The maximum likelihood (MLH) classifier use absolute value of spectral reflectance and the spectral angle mapper (SAM) classifier use pattern of spectra. As a result, in terms of spatial resolution, the classification accuracy of the UAV image was higher than that of the satellite image. However, both images shown very high classification accuracy, which means that they can be used for classification of burn severity. In terms of the classifier, the maximum likelihood method showed higher classification accuracy than the spectral angle mapper because some classes have similar spectral pattern although they have different absolute reflectance. Therefore, burn severity can be classified using the high resolution multispectral images after the fire, but an appropriate classifier should be selected to get high accuracy.

  • Anti-reflection film was coated by using spherical silica nano colloidal particles and fumed silica particles. Silica colloid sol was reserved between two inclined slide glasses by capillary force, and particles were stacked to form a film onto the substrate as the upper glass was sliding. The deposition processes were studied to enhance the wavelength dependency of the light transmittance and to control the effective refractive index of the film. Both of the spherical and fumed silica particles showed an enhancement of $4.0-4.4\%$ in light transmittance by one step coating. The dependence of the transmittance on wavelength was largely improved at the longer wavelength by partial coating of fumed particles on the film of spherical particles. The effective refractive index of the film was controlled by removing latex particles that were co-deposited with silica particles. Using this process the light reflectance from one side of the glass substrate could be reduced from $4.2\%$ to $0.6\%$ although zero reflectance was not achieved due to the agglomeration of the latex particles.

  • We optimize electrical and optical properties of thermal and SF6 plasma treated indium tin oxide (ITO)/Al based reflector for high-power ultraviolet (UV) light-emitting diodes (LEDs). After thermal and $SF_6$ plasma treatments of ITO/Al reflector, the specific contact resistance decreased from $1.04{\times}10^{-3}\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$ to $9.21{\times}10^{-4}\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$, while the reflectance increased from 58% to 70% at the 365 nm wavelength. The low resistance and high reflectance of ITO/Al reflector are attributed to the reduced Schottky barrier height (SBH) between the ITO and AlGaN by large electronegativity of fluorine species and reduced interface roughness between the ITO and Al, respectively.

  • We have investigated the crystallization properties of $Te_x(Sb_{85}Ge_{15})_{100-x}$ (x=0.3, 0.5, 1.0 at.%) thin films as observing the reflectance change, XRD and SEM. The reflectance difference(${\Delta}R$) between amorphous and crystalline phases appears appoximately 20%, in all films, at 780nm(diode laser wavelength). In the case of $Te_{0.5}(Sb_{85}Ge_{15})_{99.5}$ thin film, especially, ${\Delta}R$ is about 30%. Also, amophous-to-crystalline phase change is observed at all films. Therefore, $Te_{0.5}(Sb_{85}Ge_{15})_{99.5}$ thin film can be evaluated as attractive optical recording material with low loss and high contrast ratio.

  • A method for designing antireflection (AR) and antistatic (AS) coating layer by the use of conducting polymer as an electrically conductive transparent layer is proposed. The conducting AR coating is composed of four-layer with alternating high and low refractive index layer: silicon dioxide (n=1.44) and titanium dioxide (n=2.02) prepared at low temperature by sol-gel method are used as the low and high refractive index layer, respectively. The poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) which has the surface resistivity of 10$^4$Ω/$\square$ is used as a conductive layer. Optical constant of each ARAS coating layers such as refractive index and optical thickness were measured by 7he spectroscopic ellipsometer and from the measured optical constants the spectral properties such as reflectance and transmittance were simulated in the risible region. The reflectance of ARAS films on glass substrate was below 1 %R and the transmittance was higher than 95 % in the visible wavelength (400-700 nm). The measured AR spectral properties was very similar to its simulated results.

  • A method for analysis of thin film thickness in spectroscopic reflectometry is proposed. In spectroscopic reflectometry, there has been a trade-off between accuracy and computation speed using the conventional analysis algorithms. The trade-off originated from the nonlinearity of spectral reflectance with respect to film thickness. In this paper, the spectral phase is extracted from spectral reflectance, and the thickness of the film can be calculated by linear equations. By using the proposed method, film thickness can be measured very fast with high accuracy. The simulation result shows that the film thickness can be acquired with high accuracy. In the simulation, analysis error is lower than 0.01% in the thickness range from 100 nm to 4 um. The experiments also show good accuracy. Maximum error is under $40{\AA}$ in the thickness range $3,000-20,000{\AA}$. The experiments present that the proposed method is very fast. It takes only 2.6 s for volumetric thickness analysis of 640*480 pixels. The study suggests that the method can be a useful tool for the volumetric thickness measurement in display and semiconductor industries.

  • We are suggesting a new index to represent the performance of PDP, such as Specific Performance Index (SPI) that includes luminous efficacy and panel reflectance. High Xe gas mixture and low panel capacitance are well known as key factors to improve luminous efficacy of PDP [1]. However, higher driving voltage and longer discharge time lag is an obstacle when applying these technologies. Modified cell design, new materials and driving waveform enable us to overcome these obstacles. High efficient phosphor is also a key material to improve luminous efficacy. Phosphors coated with pigment are used to reduce panel reflectance. High performance 50-inch HD PDP with luminous efficacy of 2.3 lm/W has been developed.

  • Accurate cloud discrimination in satellite images strongly affects accuracy of remotely sensed parameter produced using it. Especially, cloud contaminated pixel over ocean is one of the major error factors such as Sea Surface Temperature (SST), ocean color, and chlorophyll-a retrievals,so accurate cloud detection is essential process and it can lead to understand ocean circulation. However, static threshold method using real-time algorithm such as Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), Advanced Himawari Imager (AHI) can't fully explained reflectance variability over ocean as a function of relative positions between the sun - sea surface - satellite. In this paper, we assembled a reflectance spectral library as a function of Solar Zenith Angle (SZA) and Viewing Zenith Angle (VZA) from ocean surface reflectance with clear sky condition of Advanced Himawari Imager (AHI) identified by NOAA's cloud products and spectral library is used for applying the Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) to detect cloud pixels. We compared qualitatively between AHI cloud property and our results and it showed that AHI cloud property had general tendency toward overestimation and wrongly detected clear as unknown at high SZA. We validated by visual inspection with coincident imagery and it is generally appropriate.
