  • Recently, there are an increasing needs for high speed rotating spindle which is an important mechanical ele- ment for a high efficiency machine tool in order to shorten machining time and cut production costs. The heat gen- eration is the most important problem in the motor integrated spindle. In this study, the effects of temperature distribution and thermal behavior according to the oil-air lubrication and cooling conditions are investigate theo- retically and experimentally on the motor-integrated spindle under unloading condition. The experimental spin- dle system is composed with the angular contact steel ball bearings, oil-air lubrication, air or oil jacket cooling system. To analyze the thermal behavior and cooling characteristics for the motor integrated spindle, the analysis using the finite element method is carried out. The analytical results are compared with the experimental results.

  • Generally, A motor integrated spindle is selected to perform the high speed machining, to improve the machining flexibility, and to simplify the structure of machine tools. The thermal deformation caused by heat generation of the integrated motor is, however, serious problem in motor integrated spindle system. In this study, cooling characteristics for the several kinds of cooling systems(such as, oil-jacket cooling, air cooling) are investigated and more efficient cooling method is presented. The results show that the shaft cooling by the air cooling system is effective to improve the thermal characteristic of motor integrated spindle.

  • Recently, motor integrated spindle is often used in a high speed spindle system of machine tools in order to increase machining speed. The important problem in high speed motor integrated spindle is to reduce thermal effect occured by motor and ball bearings. In this study, the effect of heat transfer from motor is investigated. The experimental equipment is composed with oil-air lubrication method, air cooling system and angular contact ball bearings. The results show that the thermal effect in motor is larger than in ball bearing until DmN 8000,000 with air cooling.

  • TSV는 그동안 3D IC 적층을 하는데 핵심 기술로 많이 연구되어 왔고, RC delay를 줄여 소자의 성능을 향상시키고, 전체 시스템 사이즈를 줄일 수 있는 기술로 각광을 받아왔다. 최근에는 TSV를 전기적 연결이 아닌 소자의 열관리를 위한 구조로 연구되고 있다. TSV를 이용한 liquid cooling 시스템 개발은 TSV 제조, TSV 디자인 (aspect ratio, size, distribution), 배선 밀도, microchannel 제조, sealing, 그리고 micropump 제조까지 풀어야 할 과제가 아직 많이 남아있다. 그러나 TSV를 이용한 liquid cooling 시스템은 열관리뿐 아니라 신호 대기시간(latency), 대역폭(bandwidth), 전력 소비(power consumption), 등에 크게 영향을 미치기 때문에 3D IC 적층 기술의 장점을 최대로 이용한 차세대 cooling 시스템으로 지속적인 개발이 필요하다.

Comparative study on the effect of cooling & heating loads by lighting energy of various light sources in an office building

  • The objective of the work was to evaluate the impact of lighting energy to cooling and heating consumption in medium scale office building, when currently installed fluorescent lights were replaced with various LED lighting fixtures. This evaluation comes from an integrated approach combining the proper indoor lighting environment and the thermal aspects of cooling & heating consumption in office building. These simulations were performed by coupling an appropriate luminaire analysis for energy consumption and a dynamic thermal simulation software (TRNSYS). To analyze comparative study of effects on the heating, cooling loads, and energy consumption of an LED lamp application, 2 types of LED lamp with low light power watt(LPW) 24W and high LPW 7.5W and a fluorescent lights(FL) with 37W are used respectively. Integrated building energy consumption decreased up to 3.2% when fluorescent lamps were replaced with LEDs. Thus, the high LPW of LED(7.5W) replaced with the same number of FL shows an effective energy saving and cost- effective luminary.

  • As office automation appliances and communication equipments are adopted in office buildings, internal heat gains increase gradually. When making simulation model, internal heat gains are usually set up with standard values or ignored. Therefore, the impact of the internal heat gains has been ignored or not been focused although it is recognised as significant contributor to heating/cooling load of buildings. This study focused on the impact of internal heat gains on curtain wall buildings. the amount and schedules of heat internal gains profiles not only affect the profiles of heating/cooling loads, but also make impact on reducing the effectiveness of high performance glazing systems. It is important to identify internal heat gains profiles before considering the installation of high performance glazing systems.

  • Hybrid electric vehicles have applied electric parts for saving fuel consumption and reducing levels of environmental pollution. Electrification of automobiles is indispensable for entering into global market because of enhanced environment restriction. ISG (Integrated Starter & Generator) system is one of main electric parts and can improve fuel efficiency more than other components by using Idle Stop & Go function and regenerative braking system. However, if ISG motor and inverter work under the continuously high load condition, it will make them the decrease of performance and durability. So the ISG motor and inverter need to properly design the cooling system of them. In this study, we suggested the enhancement points by modifying the thermal design of ISG motor and then confirmed the improvement of the cooling performance.

일체형 팬 앤 패드 시스템과 에어 덕트를 이용한 온실 냉방 (Greenhouse Cooling Using Air Duct and Integrated Fan and Pad System)

  • 온실의 한쪽 벽에 패드를 설치하고 반대쪽 벽에 팬을 설치하여 가동하는 팬 앤 패드 냉방 온실의 온도 경사 문제를 극복하기 위한 목적으로 일체형 팬 앤패드 시스템과 에어 덕트를 설치한 온실의 냉방 실험을 통하여 냉방성능을 분석하였다. 일체형 팬 앤 패드 증발냉각기의 효율은 1단 가동시 75.7%, 2단 가동시 88.6%로 나타나 대체로 우수한 냉각효율을 보이는 것으로 판단된다. 온실의 냉방성능 실험 결과 무차광 조건에서 온실 냉방 시스템을 가동할 경우 대조구 온실에 비해서 $5.7\sim7.6^{\circ}C$ 정도의 냉방효과가 있으며 차광 조건에서는 $7.4\sim9.7^{\circ}C$ 정도의 냉방효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 시스템을 적용할 경우 여름철 온실의 최고기온을 $37^{\circ}C$ 정도로써 외기온 대비 $5^{\circ}C$ 이내로 유지할 수 있으며, 적절한 차광을 실시할 경우에는 $33^{\circ}C$ 정도에 $2^{\circ}C$ 이내로 유지하는 것이 가능하여 고온기 작물재배에 큰 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 생각한다. 한편, 본 냉방 실험에서 온실의 온도 분포를 분석한 결과 18m 길이의 온실 내 최대 온도 편차는 차광시 $1.6\sim1.7^{\circ}C$, 무차광시 $2.3\sim2.7^{\circ}C$ 정도로 나타났다. Kittas 등(2003)과 Nam 등(2005)의 자료와 비교한 결과 본 연구에서 구상한 일체형 팬 앤 패드 시스템과 에어 덕트를 이용한 온실 냉방시스템은 기존의 팬 앤 패드 냉방 온실의 최대 단점인 온도 편차를 40~50% 정도 개선할 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 시스템은 자연환기 상태에서 가동할 수 있으므로 단동 온실에 적용하기가 쉬우며, 일체형 증발냉각기 출구로부터 온실 내 에어 덕트 시점까지의 연결 덕트 부분을 철저하게 단열하면 냉방성능을 더욱 향상시킬 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

고속.대추력 리니어모터의 열특성 최적화 [2] (Optimization of the Thermal Behavior of Linear Motors with High Speed and Force ($2^{nd}$ Paper))

  • This paper presents some measures far the optimization of the thermal behavior of linear motors, which are used as a high speed feed mechanism in machine tools. Thermo-Sandwich-Construction using two cooling circuits and an insulation layer shows an effective cooling system for linear motors. Conducting sheet can be also used to reduce heat flow from linear motor to machine table. Cooling pipe is a simple and effective cooling system for the secondary part of synchronous linear motor. Through the combination of the Thermo-Sandwich-Construction, conducting sheet and cooling pipe the thermally optimized linear motor shows a well improved thermal behavior in comparison with the prototype motor.

고속 운전조건을 고려한 하이브리드 자동차용 ISG 모터 방열설계 및 해석 평가 (Thermal Design and Analysis Evaluation of ISG Motor for Hybrid Electric Vehicles considering High-speed Driving Condition)

  • Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) system improves the fuel economy of hybrid electric vehicles by using idle stop and go function, and regenerative braking system. To obtain the high performance and durability of ISG motor under continuously high load condition, the motor needs to properly design the cooling system (cooling fan and cooling structure). In this study, we suggested the enhanced design by modifying the thermal design of the ISG motor and then analyzed the improvement of the cooling performance under high-speed condition and generating mode by CFD simulation. The temperatures at the coil and the magnet of the enhanced model were decreased by about $4^{\circ}C$ and $6^{\circ}C$, respectively, compared to those of the conventional model. Therefore, we verified the cooling performance enhancement of the novel thermal design in the case of core loss increment due to the higher speed condition.
