  • Due to the issue of the sustainability in transportation area, the number of electric vehicles has significantly increased. Most automakers have decided or planned to manufacture the electric vehicles rather than carbon fueled vehicles. However, there are still some problems to figure out for the electric vehicles such as long charging time, driving ranges, supply of charging stations. Since the speed of growing the number of electric vehicles is faster than that of the number of charging stations, there are lack of supplies of charging stations for electric vehicles and imbalances of the location of the charging stations. Thus, the location problem of charging stations is one of important issues for the electric vehicles. Studies have conducted to find the optimal locations for the charging stations. Most studies have formulated the problem with deterministic or hierarchical models. In this paper, we have investigated the fluctuations of locations and the capacity of charging stations. We proposed a mathematical model for the location problem of charging stations with the vehicle routing problem. Numerical examples provide the strategy for the location routing problems of the electric vehicles.

  • Wireless tactical network (WTN) is the most important present-day technology enabling modern network centric warfare. It inherits many features from WMNs, since the WTN is based on existing wireless mesh networks (WMNs). However, it also has distinctive characteristics, such as hierarchical structures and tight QoS (Quality-of-Service) requirements. Little research has been conducted on hierarchical protocols to support various QoS in WMN. We require new protocols specifically optimized for WTNs. Control packets are generally required to find paths and reserve resources for QoS requirements, so data throughput is not degraded due to overhead. The fundamental solution is to adopt topology aggregation, in which a low tier node aggregates and simplifies the topology information and delivers it to a high tier node. The overhead from control packet exchange can be reduced greatly due to decreased information size. Although topology aggregation is effective for low overhead, it also causes the inaccuracy of topology information; thus, incurring low QoS support capability. Therefore, we need a new topology aggregation algorithm to achieve high accuracy. In this paper, we propose a new aggregation algorithm based on star topology. Noting the hierarchical characteristics in military and hierarchical networks, star topology aggregation can be used effectively. Our algorithm uses a limited number of bypasses to increase the exactness of the star topology aggregation. It adjusts topology parameters whenever it adds a bypass. Consequently, the result is highly accurate and has low computational complexity.

  • A cluster-based routing with a hierachical structure for continuous query stream ubiquitous sensor network is proposed in this paper. the proposed method realizes high energy-efficiency by using a head-set instead of head for transmitting node-messages to a base station. By using head-set, the method make network lifetime increased.

  • Maintenance Access Hatches are used to ensure urban safety and aesthetics while facilitating the management of power lines, telecommunication lines, and gas pipes. Such facilities necessitate affordable and effective surveillance. In this paper, we propose a FiCHS (Fixed Cluster head centralized Hierarchical Static clustering) routing protocol that is suitable for underground maintenance hatches using WSN (Wireless Sensor Network) technology. FiCHS is compared with three other protocols, LEACH, LEACH-C, and a simplified LEACH, based on an ns-2 simulation. FiCHS was observed to exhibit the highest levels of power and data transfer efficiency.

  • MANET has various types of attacks. In particular, routing attacks using characteristics of movement of nodes and wireless communication is the most threatening because all nodes which configure network perform a function of router which forwards packets. Therefore, mechanisms that detect routing attacks and defense must be applied. In this paper, we proposed hierarchical structure attack detection techniques in order to improve the detection ability against routing attacks. Black hole detection is performed using PIT for monitoring about control packets within cluster and packet information management on the cluster head. Flooding attack prevention is performed using cooperation-based distributed detection technique by member nodes. For this, member node uses NTT for information management of neighbor nodes and threshold whether attack or not receives from cluster head. The performance of attack detection could be further improved by calculating at regular intervals threshold considering the total traffic within cluster in the cluster head.

  • The multi user communications that is called as the multicast service should be applied into the evolving mobile networks. In this paper, we propose a fast multicast management scheme for mobile terminals in HMIPv6 (Hierarchical Mobile IPv6) based mobile networks. In HMIPv6 based mobile networks, we consider the mobile terminal mobility that the multicast management scheme during mobile handover is used for the multicast routing changing. The changing impact to the multicast routing Is determined from handovers in intra AR, and in inter AR or MAP. In this paper, we propose multicast supporting schemes that the tunneling scheme is used in intra AR handover, and the previous subscription scheme is used in inter AR handover for considering the changing impact of the multicast routing.

  • Tree-based routing Ethernet (TRE) is a recent Ethernet architecture that enables shortcut links to improve performance compared to spanning tree protocols. However, TRE can only use shortcuts that arrive directly at bridges located in the branch of the destination. TRE+ extends the topology knowledge of a bridge to 2 hops away, thus unveiling new shortcuts to the destination branch. Simulations show a major performance improvement of TRE+ compared to TRE, with results close to shortest paths in some topologies.

  • We propose a specific ubiquitous sensor network (USN) architecture as a promising candidate of the future telemedicine model which offers the patient's mobility and more cost-efficient medical care system. This new USN architecture is a kind of cell-based secure sensor network supporting encrypted multi-casting communications and it has a hybrid routing protocol by adapting flat routing to hierarchical routing. For the patient's privacy and the protection of patient's vital information from eavesdropping, we adopt a lightweight PKI-based secure communication protocol with some formal presentation on its core procedure.

  • Deployment of green transportation in reverse logistics is a key issue for low carbon technologies. To cope with such logistic innovation, this paper proposes a hybrid approach to solve practical vehicle routing problem (VRP) of pickup type that is common when considering the reverse logistics. Noticing that transportation cost depends not only on distance traveled but also on weight loaded, we propose a hierarchical procedure that can design an economically efficient reverse logistics network even when the scale of the problem becomes very large. Since environmental concerns are of growing importance in the reverse logistics field, we need to reveal some prospects that can reduce $CO_2$ emissions from the economically optimized VRP in the same framework. In order to cope with manifold circumstances, the above idea has been deployed by extending the Weber model to the generalized Weber model and to the case with an intermediate destination. Numerical experiments are carried out to validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach and to explore the prospects for future green reverse logistics.

  • A hierarchical tree structure of clusters has advantages for the network design due to its scalability and simple routing protocol. In this paper, the cluster tree routing protocol is studied for the wireless sensor network. From the numerical analysis results, the data aggregation in the intermediate nodes reduces the number of communication message and saves the energy of sensor nodes, but it may result in increased data traffic latency. And also the selection of cluster head can increase the relaying hops very high.
