Purpose: This study was to determine the mediator or moderator role of social support in the relationship between stress and depression among family caregivers of older adults with dementia. Method: Sixty nine family caregivers were randomly selected from health care centers in P city and a face-to-face interview was conducted using questionnaires from January to May of 2002. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and hierarchical multiple regression using SPSS program. Result: Family caregivers of older adults with higher dependency in ADLs and higher problematic behaviors, provided care to the older adults for a longer period of time, and perceived less social support reported higher depression. Social support showed mediating effects between stress and depression, while did not show moderating effects. Elderly dependency on ADLs and caregiving duration decreased perceived social support and decreased social support increased depression. Conclusion: To increase family and social support to the caregivers of more functionally impaired elderly, family education to increase emotional support and physical assistance to the caregivers and broader and flexible application of social support such as increasing accessibility to the elderly daycare service with lower price may prove beneficial.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of job-related characteristics on alcohol consumption among female workers. The Data was collected from a sample of 1,000 female workers by a stratified proportional quota sampling method derived from those who were working in Seoul. Drinking behavior pattern includes total amount of pure alcohol consumed during the last month (AC) measured by graduated quantity-frequency. Job-related characteristics (JRC) were measured by job-related stress, work characteristics, and organizational structure including length of working hours, number of times dining out together with workers per year, number of staff to supervise, employment status, occupational category, and proportion of female workers to male counterpart. Confounding variables include sociodemogrphic and socio-cultural attitudes toward alcohol expectancy, subjective norm of drinking, and gender-role attitude. Hierarchical multiple regression models show that the variability of AC was accounted for by some JRC including number of times dining together and employment status, with confounding variables held constant. However, the relationship between AC and JRC varied across occupational categories. Some implications were discussed in terms of health policy for female workers and further study for female drinking behavior.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to explore the health-related quality of life of caregivers for demented elders. Method: The subjects of this study were 170 pairs of demented elders and their caregivers. Socio-demographic characteristics of the demented elders and the caregivers, Barthel index and SF-36 were used in this study. Data analysis procedure included t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression. Results: The score of overall health-related quality of life (HRQoL) was 288.62 in norm-based scoring. The major factors that affect HRQoL of the demented elders' caregivers were burden, the age of the caregiver, ADL and gender of the demented elder, and these factors explained 34.5% of HRQoL. Conclusion: The factors significantly affecting the caregivers' HRQoL were burden, the age of the caregiver and ADL. The effective social support system should be considered in respective nursing interventions to decrease the level of burden and to increase HRQoL in demented elders' caregivers. Further studies and efforts will be needed to investigate preceding factors of burden and HRQoL.

Number of samples were 5,085 people between age 20 years and 69 years in whole country. In this study, we modified Green and Kreuter's Precede-Proceed model to analyse influence of factors in health behavior, Hierarchical regression were used in the analysis. Result: 1) Factors that had statistically significant positive relation with overall health behavior were age, educational level, income level, disease in the family, medical examination, subjective weight, and concern about health, 2) Factors that had statistically significant negative relation with overall health behavior were sex, subjective health, stress, and degree of physical activity. Conclusion: 1) It would be necessary to set the target group for the health promotion in advance. 2) It was very important to adopt easy and efficient methods to change the health behavior of target group, for example, ability to control stress.
Purpose: This study was done to identify the relationship of perceived health status, leisure satisfaction, loneliness and life satisfaction and to identify predictors of life satisfaction for elders. Method: The research design for this study was a descriptive survey design using a convenience sample. Data collection was done using self-report questionnaires with 297 elders from 6 community health practitioner posts. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, t-test, Pearson correlation coefficients and hierarchical multiple regression with the SPSS Win 18.0 Program. Results: Life satisfaction had significant negative correlations with age (r=-.31, p<.001) and loneliness (r=-.73, p<.001), and positive correlations with monthly spending money (r=.44, p<.001), health status (r=.63, p<.001), and leisure satisfaction (r=.62, p<.001). The explained variance for life satisfaction was 72%. Variables of monthly spending money, health status, leisure satisfaction, and loneliness significantly predicted the degree on life satisfaction of these elders. Conclusion: Findings of this study provide a comprehensive understanding of life satisfaction and related factors for elders in Korea. However, further studies with a larger random sample and more detailed research design are necessary.

After a total of 300 responses were collected, 275 were used for the analyses. Both standard and hierarchical multiple regression analyses were conducted to test the hypotheses. The results are as follows. First, it was found that emotional image had an effect on purchase of HMR but that social image did not have an effect on purchase of HMR. Second, purchase intention of HMR significantly impacted brand loyalty. Third, brand trust of HMR was found to mediate the relationship between purchase intention and brand loyalty of HMR. These findings provide practical implication for researchers and marketer regarding relationship marketing strategy in the HMR context.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate antioxidant capacity and relating factors including gender, obesity, lifestyle factors, and nutrient intake in chronic stroke patients. Methods: A total of 188 chronic stroke patients who visited a medical center in Seoul participated in the study. A structured questionnaire was used to assess their clinical characteristics and lifestyles. Blood samples were collected for ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP) for antioxidant capacity. Dietary intake of the patients were obtained for 2 days by 24 hours recall method. Results: The mean FRAP was $392.0{\mu}mol/L$. According to the hierarchical multiple regression analysis, the factors related to high FRAP were male sex (p=.036), alcohol drinking (p=.013), and calorie intake deficiency (p=.005). Conclusion: We found that antioxidant capacity was related to lifestyle factors including alcohol drinking, and calorie intake in chronic stroke patients. A tailored strategy is needed to increase antioxidant capacity according to gender and lifestyles in the chronic phase of stoke patients.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing the intention of the reuse in patients admitted in university hospital emergency medical center. Objectives : The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship between variables associated with oral health status in psychiatric patients and to provide basic information on oral health education program development for the psychiatric patients. Methods : Subjects were 151 psychiatric patients who filled out the structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed for independent t-test, one-way ANOVA and hierarchical multiple regression by using SPSS Win Program 18.0 version. Results : Higher DMFT index was shown in the older age(p<0.001) and low perceived oral health group(p<0.001). Higher DMFT index included no tooth brushing after breakfast(p=0.045), wrong tooth brushing method(p<0.001). Chewing discomfort(p=0.027) and denture(p=0.027) were closely related to higher DMFT index. Bread(p=0.033) and snack(p<0.001) increased DMFT index. Factors affecting oral health status were age, denture, snack and bread. The explanation power of the final model was 29.4%. Conclusions : Dietary control for the psychiatric patients is very important to prevent dental caries. Tooth brushing and use of oral hygiene devices can improve good oral health care. Furthermore, this result can improve the oral health care for the disabled people.
