Colorectal Cancer Staging Using Three Clustering Methods Based on Preoperative Clinical Findings

  • Determination of the colorectal cancer stage is possible only after surgery based on pathology results. However, sometimes this may prove impossible. The aim of the present study was to determine colorectal cancer stage using three clustering methods based on preoperative clinical findings. All patients referred to the Colorectal Research Center of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences for colorectal cancer surgery during 2006 to 2014 were enrolled in the study. Accordingly, 117 cases participated. Three clustering algorithms were utilized including k-means, hierarchical and fuzzy c-means clustering methods. External validity measures such as sensitivity, specificity and accuracy were used for evaluation of the methods. The results revealed maximum accuracy and sensitivity values for the hierarchical and a maximum specificity value for the fuzzy c-means clustering methods. Furthermore, according to the internal validity measures for the present data set, the optimal number of clusters was two (silhouette coefficient) and the fuzzy c-means algorithm was more appropriate than the k-means clustering approach by increasing the number of clusters.

Distribution and Abundance of Zooplankton in the Bransfield Strait and the Western Weddell Sea during Austral Summer

  • Zooplankton community was surveyed during the Seventh Korea Antarctic Research Program, from 28 December 1993 to 11 January 1994. Zooplankton samples were collected at 40 stations from the waters around the South Shetland Islands with a Bongo net and a MOCNESS. A total of 14 taxa of zooplankton were identified. Zooplankton abundances varied at each station as well as with the sampling gears. Zooplankton abundances were higher in the Western Weddell Sea than those in the Bransfield strait. Zooplankton collected with MOCNESS showed a different vertical distribution depending on its depths at selected stations. Copepods were the major components of zooplankton contributing 72.84% (mesh size $333{\mu}m$) and 68.36% (mesh size $505{\mu}m$) of total zooplankton abundance from the Bongo samples. Salps were the second most abundant group comprising 7.92% $(333{\mu}m)$ and 11.99% $(505{\mu}m)$ of total zooplankton abundance. Euphausiids, chaetognaths, polychaetes, pteropods and ostracods occurred more than 1% of total zooplankton. Copepods were not abundant at stations salps and euphausiids were dominant. Salpa thompsoni, Euphausia superba, Calanoides acutus, Metridia gerlachei and Calanus propinquus were dominant depending on the stations. The hierarchical UPGMA cluster analysis of dissimilarities between sampling stations is displayed with clusters identified similar habitats. Copepods rarely appeared in the clusters 4 and 5, and they appeared a ffw in the cluster 3 (or salps were numerous), while copepods were abundant in the clusters 1 and 2. As in the results of cluster analysis, the distributions of dominant taxa have a well identified correspondence to the geological positions included physical factors.

산업클러스터 내 사회적 자본이 기업성과에 미치는 영향: 조직학습의 역할을 중심으로 (The effect of social capital on firm performance within industrial clusters: Mediating role of organizational learning of clustering SMEs)

  • Although the success of industrial clusters largely depends on whether clustering firms can achieve economic performance, there has been less attention on investigating factors and conditions contributing to the performance enhancement for clustering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Along this vein, we adopt the theories of social capital and organizational learning as those success factors for clustering SMEs. This study thus aims at examining what effect social capital accrued in the relationships among actors within clusters has on firm performance of clustering SMEs and what role organizational learning plays in the linkage between social capital and firm performance. For the empirical analysis, we operationalized the variables and their measures to develop questionnaires through the theoretical reviews on literatures. As a sample of 227 clustering SMEs, our collected data was analyzed by hierarchical regression analysis. The results confirmed that a high level of social capital, represented by network, trust, and norm, has positive effect on firm performance of clustering SMEs. We also found that clustering firms presenting high organizational learning, represented by absorptive and transformative capability, achieve better performance than those placing less value on organizational learning. Furthermore the significant relationship between social capital and firm performance is mediated partially through organizational learning. These findings imply not only that the territorial agglomeration of industrial cluster does not guarantee the performance creation of clustering SMEs but that they need to develop social capital among various actors within clusters, facilitating their knowledge diffusion. In order to absorb and mobilize the shared knowledge and information into strategic resources, the firms should improve their capability associated with organizational learning. These expand our understanding on the importance of social capital and organizational learning for the performance enhancement of clustering firms. Differentiating from major studies addressing benefits and advantages of industrial cluster, this study based on the perspective of firm-internal business process contributes to the literature advancement. Strategic and policy implications of this study are discussed in detail.

마이크로어레이 유전자 발현 자료에 대한 군집 방법 비교 (Comparison of clustering methods of microarray gene expression data)

  • 군집분석은 마이크로어레이 발현자료에서 유전자 혹은 표본들의 유사한 특성을 갖는 연관구조를 조사하는데 중요한 도구이다. 본 논문에서는 마이크로어레이 자료에서 계층적 군집방법, K-평균법, PAM (partitioning around medoids), SOM (self-organizing maps) 그리고 모형기반 군집방법 들의 성능을 3가지 군집 타당성 측도인 내적 측도, 안정적 측도 그리고 생물학적 측도를 가지고 비교분석하고자 한다. 모의실험을 통해 생성된 자료와 실제 SRBCT (small round blue cell tumor) 자료를 가지고 여러 가지 군집방법들의 성능을 비교하였으며 그 결과 모의실험 자료에서는 거의 모든 방법들이 3가지 군집측도에서 원래 자료와 일치하는 좋은 군집 결과를 나타내었고 SRBCT 자료에서는 모의실험 자료처럼 명확한 군집화 결과를 보여주지는 않으나 내적측도의 실루엣 너비 (Silhouette width) 관점에서는 PAM 방법, SOM, 모형기반 군집방법 그리고 생물학적 측도에서는 PAM 방법과 모형기반 군집방법이 모의실험 결과와 비슷한 결과를 얻었고 안정적 측도에서 모형기반 군집방법이 다른 방법들보다 좋은 군집결과를 보여주었다.

Mineral Compositions of Korean Wheat Cultivars

  • Twenty-nine Korean wheat cultivars were analyzed for 8 important minerals (Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn, Ca, K, Mg and P) using Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry (ICP-AES). A hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) was applied to classify wheat cultivars, which has a similarity in mineral compositions. The concentration ranges of the micro-minerals Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn: 0.12~0.71 mg/100 g, 2.89~5.89 mg/100 g, 1.65~4.48 mg/100 g, and 2.58~6.68 mg/100 g, respectively. The content ranges of the macro-minerals Ca, K, Mg and P: 31.3~46.3 mg/100 g, 288.2~383.3 mg/100 g, 113.6~168.6 mg/100 g, and 286.2~416.5 mg/100 g, respectively. The HCA grouped 6 clusters from all wheat samples and a significant variance was observed in the mineral composition of each group. Among the 6 clusters, the second group was high in Fe and Ca, whereas the fourth group had high Cu, Mn and K concentrations; the fifth cluster was high in Zn, Mg and P. The variation in mineral compositions in Korean wheat cultivars can be used in the wheat breeding program to develop a new wheat cultivar with high mineral content, thus to improve the nutritional profile of wheat grains.

담임교사가 인식한 학교상담자와의 자문 관계에서의 장애요인 탐색 (Teacher Perception about Barriers to Consultation with School Counselors)

  • 본 연구는 담임교사가 인식한 학교상담자와의 자문 관계에서의 장애요인을 탐색적으로 파악하고자 하는 목적으로 이루어졌다. 이를 위해 서울, 경기, 인천, 충청, 대구 등에 근무하는 담임교사 16명을 대상으로 자료를 수집하여 개념도 연구방법을 통해 분석하였다. 1차로 수집된 일대일 면담 자료에 대한 질적분석을 통해 담임교사의 관점에서 학교상담자에게 자문을 받을 때의 장애요인을 설명하는 진술문을 도출하였다. 2차 자료 수집 과정에서는 일대일 면담 또는 우편의 방식으로 진술문에 대한 유사성 분류 및 중요도 평정이 이루어졌다. 2차로 수집된 자료에 대해 다차원분석과 군집분석을 실시하여 개념도를 작성하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 담임교사가 인식한 학교상담자와의 자문 관계에서의 장애요인은 최종 51개의 진술문으로 정리되었다. 진술문에 대한 차원분석은 2개의 차원으로 '학교상담 특성 - 학교상담자 특성' 차원과 '심리적 장애 - 물리적 장애' 차원으로 명명되었다. 51개의 진술문에 대해 군집분석을 실시한 결과, 5개의 군집으로 분석되었다. 담임교사가 인식할 때 학교상담자와의 자문 관계에서의 장애요인 군집은 '담임교사로서의 책임감이 상담자와의 소통을 방해함', '학교상담자에게 받는 자문의 필요성에 대한 인식 부족', '학교상담자에 대한 신뢰 부족', '학교상담자 역할에 대한 인식 및 관련 경험 부족', 그리고 '학교상담 환경으로 인한 학교상담자의 업무 과다'로 정리되었다. 5개의 군집에서 중요도 평정 결과가 가장 높게 나타난 군집은 '학교상담자에 대한 신뢰 부족'으로 나타났다.

사암도인침법의 통증 질환 접근법에 대한 고찰 (Literature Review and Network Analysis on the Pain Disease Approach of Saam Acupuncture Method)

  • Objectives : Saam acupuncture initiated by Saamdoin in $17^{th}$ century is one of the most widely adopted acupuncture techniques used by Korean medical doctors in clinic. Our study aimed to analyze the application of the Saam acupuncture method to pain diseases based on the literature data. Methods : Based on the contents described in "(Do Hae Kyo Kam) Saam's acupuncture method", the texts related to pain condition were analyzed. The frequency of prescription of Saam acupuncture method was analyzed, and then the relationships between each acupoint were visualized by network analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis for the quantitative aspect. Results and conclusions: In our study, Lung tonifying and Liver tonifying acupuncture were the most frequently used method for the treatment of pain disease. As the acupoints, BL66 and SI5 were used the most frequently. It was found that visceral pattern identification was considered as the most important factor in the selection of the Saam acupuncture method. Network analysis and hierarchical clustering analysis showed that each acupoint was closely related to other acupoints, and most of them were connected more closely according to the method of Saam acupuncture operation. The experiential prescriptions of Saam acupuncture were classified as an independent group. In the future, fundamental research on the principle of Saam acupuncture method is needed for the various diseases, and research for the clinical efficacy and the mechanism of Saam acupuncture method should be preceded.

패션감성의 측정도구 개발에 관한 연구(제1보) (A Study on the Development of Fashion Sensibility)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the measurement of the fashion sensibility. The stimulus were 91 photos selected in fashion magazines and had dominant visual power under detail, color, texture and pattern in the elements of fashion design. The semantic differential scale was constructed bipolar 25 pairs. The obtained data were analyzed by cluster analysis, factor analysis, ANOVA and t-test. The results were as follows; 1. The hierarchical structure was combined a natural and interesting, sensitive and lovely fashion sensibility. 2. The constructing factors of fashion sensibility were found out as aesthetic value, maturity, character and femininity·masculinity.(total variance: 55.7%) 3. Fashion sensibility by elements of fashion design was significantly different regarding all factors. 4. Fashion sensibility by demographic variables sex, age, marriage, education, occupation and expenditure was significantly different regarding partial factors.

주제공원 이용자들의 선택행동 추정에 관한 연구 -Nested Logit Model의 적용 (A Study on Choice Behavior of Theme Park Visitors - Application of Nested Logit Model -)

  • This study was carried out to identify users' choice behavior of theme parks. overland. Lotte World, Seoul Land, Dreamland and Children's Grand Park were selected as study areas. Both multinomial logic model(MNL), nested logic model(NMNL) and joint logit model wet$.$e test using a choice-based sample collected on study areas. Hausman-McFadden test showed that the MNL is not appropriate because the IIA assumption is violated. To avoid the problematic IIA assumption, the NMNL was tested. It splits similar alternatives into groups and nests separate decisions into hierarchical order to avoid the IIA assumption. Cluster analysis and discriminant analysis were conducted to find applicable nest structures. The inclusive value coefficient was 0.7788. It meant that sufficient condition of this model is met and users' choice behavior can be better understood by NMNL than MNL. The $\rho$2 value and accuracy of prediction of this model were 0.402 and 46.33% , respectively. Several comments were suggested to make the NMNL to be more reliable for future research on users' choice behavior of theme park.

분산주성분 분석을 이용한 고등학교교실 내 오염패턴분류에 관한 연구 (Classification of Pollution Patterns in High School Classrooms using Disjoint Principal Component Analysis)

  • In regard to indoor air quality patterns, the government introduced various polices that were about managing and monitoring quality of indoor air as a major assignment, and also executed 'Indoor Air Quality Management Act' which was presented in the May, 2004. However, among the multi-usage facilities controlled by the Act, the school was not included yet. This study goal was to investigate PM 10 pollution patterns of the high school classrooms using a pattern recognition method based on cluster analysis and disjoint principal component analysis, and further to survey levels of inorganic elements in May, June, and September, 2004. A hierarchical clustering method was examined to obtain possible objects in pseudo homogeneous sample classes by transformation raw data and by applying various distance. Following the analysis, the disjoint principal component analysis was used to define homogeneous sample class after deleting outliers. Then three homogeneous Patterns were obtained as follows: the first class had been separated and objects in the class were considered to be sampled under semi-open condition. This class had high concentration of Ca, Fe, Mg, K, Al, and Na which are related with a soil and a chalk compounds. The second class was obtained in which objects were sampled while working air-conditioners and was identified low concentration of PM 10 and elements. Objects in the last class were assigned during rainy day. A chalk, soil element and various types of anthropogenic sources including combustions and industrial influenced the third class. This methodology was thought to be helpful enough to classify indoor air quality patterns and indoor environmental categories when controlling an indoor air quality.
