To maintain the existing systems of ships and introduce autonomous operation technology, it is necessary to improve situational awareness through the sensor fusion of the automatic identification system (AIS) and automatic radar plotting aid (ARPA), which are installed sensors. This study proposes an algorithm for determining whether AIS and ARPA signals are sent to the same ship in real time. To minimize the number of errors caused by the time series and abnormal phenomena of heterogeneous signals, a tracking method based on the combination of the unscented Kalman filter and probabilistic data association filter is performed on ARPA radar signals, and a position prediction method is applied to AIS signals. Especially, the proposed algorithm determines whether the signal is for the same vessel by comparing motion-related components among data of heterogeneous signals to which the corresponding method is applied. Finally, a measurement test is conducted on a training ship. In this process, the proposed algorithm is validated using the AIS and ARPA signal data received by the voyage data recorder for the same ship. In addition, the proposed algorithm is verified by comparing the test results with those obtained from raw data. Therefore, it is recommended to use a sensor fusion algorithm that considers the characteristics of sensors to improve the situational awareness accuracy of existing ship systems.

A unreliable network system results in unsatisfied performance. A performance criterion of a network is throughput and availability. One of the most compelling technological advances of this decade has been the advent of deploying wireless networks of heterogeneous smart sensor nodes for complex information gathering tasks, The advancement and popularization of wireless communication technologies make more efficiency to network devices with wireless technology than with wired technology. Recently, the research of wireless sensor network has been drawing much attentions. In this paper, We evaluate throughput and availability of wireless sensor network, which have hierarchical structure based on clustering and estimate the maximum hroughput, average throughput and availability of the network considering several link failure patterns likely to happen at a cluster consisted of sensor nodes. Also increasing a number of sensor nodes in a cluster, We analysis the average throughput and availability of the network.

The analysis of plankton species distribution in sea or fresh water is very important in preserving marine ecosystem health. Since manual analysis is infeasible, many automatic approaches were proposed. They usually use images from in situ towed underwater imaging sensor or specially designed, lab mounted microscopic imaging system. Normally they assume that only single plankton is present in an image so that, if there is a clumping among multiple plankton of same species (homogeneous clumping) or if there are multiple plankton of different species scattered in an image (heterogeneous interspersion), they have a difficulty in recognition. In this work, we propose a deep learning based method that can detect and recognize individual plankton in images with homogeneous clumping, heterogeneous interspersion, or combination of both.

The Sensor Registry System(SRS) provides sensor metadata to a user for instant use and seamless interpretation of sensor data in a heterogeneous sensor network environment. The existing sensor registry system cannot provide sensor metadata in case that the network connection is not available or is unstable. To resolve the problem, this paper proposes an extension of sensor registry system using network coverage information. The extended system sends a set of sensor metadata to the user by using network coverage open data (mobile vendors, signal strength, communication type). The extended SRS proposed in this paper supports a safer sensor metadata provision than the existing SRS, and it thus improves the quality of application services.
Self-organization of distributed wireless sensor nodes is a critical issue in wireless sensor networks (WSNs), since each sensor node has limited energy, bandwidth, and scalability. These issues prevent sensor nodes from actively collaborating with the other types of sensor nodes deployed in a typical heterogeneous and somewhat hostile environment. The automated self-organization of a WSN becomes more challenging as the number of sensor nodes increases in the network. In this paper, we propose a dynamic self-organized architecture that combines tree topology with a drawn-grid algorithm to automate the self-organization process for WSNs. In order to make our proposed architecture scalable, we assume that all participating active sensor nodes are unaware of their primary locations. In particular, this paper presents two algorithms called active-tree and drawn-grid. The proposed active-tree algorithm uses a tree topology to assign node IDs and define different roles to each participating sensor node. On the other hand, the drawn-grid algorithm divides the sensor nodes into cells with respect to the radio coverage area and the specific roles assigned by the active-tree algorithm. Thus, both proposed algorithms collaborate with each other to automate the self-organizing process for WSNs. The numerical and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed dynamic architecture performs much better than a static architecture in terms of the self-organization of wireless sensor nodes and energy consumption.
Various location tracking sensors; such as GPS, INS, radar, and optical equipment; are used for tracking moving targets. In order to effectively track moving targets, it is necessary to develop an effective fusion method for these heterogeneous devices. There have been studies in which the estimated values of each sensors were regarded as different models and fused together, considering the different error characteristics of the sensors for the improvement of tracking performance using heterogeneous multi-sensor. However, the rate of errors for the estimated values of other sensors has increased, in that there has been a sharp increase in sensor errors and the attempts to change the estimated sensor values for the Sensor Probability could not be applied in real time. In this study, the Sensor Probability is obtained by comparing the RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) for the difference between the updated and measured values of the Kalman filter for each sensor. The process of substituting the new combined values for the Kalman filter input values for each sensor is excluded. There are improvements in both the real-time application of estimated sensor values, and the tracking performance for the areas in which the sensor performance has rapidly decreased. The proposed algorithm adds the error characteristic of each sensor as a conditional probability value, and ensures greater accuracy by performing the track fusion with the sensors with the most reliable performance. The trajectory of a UAV is generated in an experiment and a performance analysis is conducted with other fusion algorithms.
HCCL stands for Heterogenous Container Class Library. HCCL is a library that allows heterogeneous types of data to be stored in a container as a single record and to be constructed as a list of the records to be stored in database. With HCCL, encryption/decryption can be done based on the unified data type. Recently, IoT sensor which is embedded in smartphone enables developers to provide various convenient services to users. However, it is also true that infringement of personal information may occur in the process of transmitting sensor information to API and users need to be prepared for this situation in some sense. In this study, we developed a data model that enhances existing security using SEED cryptographic algorithms while managing information of sensors based on HCCL. Due to the fact that the Android environment does not provide permission management function for sensors, this study decided whether or not to encrypt sensor information based on the user's choice so that the user can determine the creation and storage of safe data. For verification of this work, we have presented the performance evaluation by comparing with the situation of storing the sensor data in plaintext.

The sensor network-based service collects data by using the sensor, the data is aware of the situation via the analysis, and the service provider provides a service suitable for the user via the context-awareness. However, this data is generated, it is difficult to match the metadata and standard units. The data integration is required to use the data generated by the different specifications of the sensor efficiently. Accordingly, in this paper we propose a method using an ontology as a method to integrate the data generated by the existing sensors and the new sensor. The ontology is mapping to the standard item and sensors, also include a type and structural difference. The mapping is comprised of two:data mapping, and metadata mapping. There are standard items that are created in this way, type of data exchange between services. This can solve the heterogeneous problem generated by sensors.

The sensor registry system has been proposed to interpret and process semantics of sensor data independently of heterogeneous sensor networks. However, the existing sensor registry system provides the static processing method. In other words, the existing system reduces the overall performance because it executes unnecessary operations and does not consider data scope to be used. To resolve the problem of the existing sensor registry system, this paper proposes a performance enhancement model based on sensor metadata reusability and scoping. The proposed model in this paper provides a function that can decide a proper scope of sensor metadata from the sensor registry system. The proposed model improves the overall performance by providing reusability of sensor metadata. This paper also shows the advantages of the proposed model through the comparative performance evaluation.
