The online learning is a process of obtaining the solution for a given objective function where the data is accumulated in real time or in batch units. The stochastic gradient descent method is one of the most widely used for the online learning. This method is not only easy to implement, but also has good properties of the solution under the assumption that the generating model of data is homogeneous. However, the stochastic gradient method could severely mislead the online-learning when the homogeneity is actually violated. We assume that there are two heterogeneous generating models in the observation, and propose the a new stochastic gradient method that mitigate the problem of the heterogeneous models. We introduce a robust mini-batch optimization method using statistical tests and investigate the convergence radius of the solution in the proposed method. Moreover, the theoretical results are confirmed by the numerical simulations.
Recently, there have been many research efforts based on data-based deep learning technologies to deal with the interference problem between heterogeneous wireless communication devices in unlicensed frequency bands. However, existing approaches are commonly based on the use of complex neural network models, which require high computational power, limiting their efficiency in resource-constrained network interfaces and Internet of Things (IoT) devices. In this study, we address the problem of classifying heterogeneous wireless technologies including Wi-Fi and ZigBee in unlicensed spectrum bands. We focus on a data-driven approach that employs a supervised-learning method that uses received signal strength indicator (RSSI) data to train Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). We propose a simple measurement methodology for collecting RSSI training data which preserves temporal and spectral properties of the target signal. Real experimental results using an open-source 2.4 GHz wireless development platform Ubertooth show that the proposed sampling method maintains the same accuracy with only a 10% level of sampling data for the same neural network architecture.

Pipelines are buried in urban area, and the position (depth and orientation) of buried pipeline should be clearly identified before ground excavation. Although various geophysical methods can be used to detect the buried pipeline, it is not easy to identify the exact information of pipeline due to heterogeneous ground condition. Among various non-destructive geo-exploration methods, ground penetration radar (GPR) can explore the ground subsurface rapidly with relatively low cost compared to other exploration methods. However, the exploration data obtained from GPR requires considerable experiences because interpretation is not intuitive. Recently, researches on automated detection technology for GPR data using deep learning have been conducted. However, the lack of GPR data which is essential for training makes it difficult to build up the reliable detection model. To overcome this problem, we conducted a preliminary study to improve the performance of the detection model using finite difference time domain (FDTD)-based numerical analysis. Firstly, numerical analysis was performed with homogeneous soil media having single permittivity. In case of heterogeneous ground, numerical analysis was performed considering the ground heterogeneity using fractal technique. Secondly, deep learning was carried out using convolutional neural network. Detection Model-A is trained with data set obtained from homogeneous ground. And, detection Model-B is trained with data set obtained from homogeneous ground and heterogeneous ground. As a result, it is found that the detection Model-B which is trained including heterogeneous ground shows better performance than detection Model-A. It indicates the ground heterogeneity should be considered to increase the performance of automated detection model for GPR exploration.
In the past two decades, structural health monitoring (SHM) systems have been widely installed on various civil infrastructures for the tracking of the state of their structural health and the detection of structural damage or abnormality, through long-term monitoring of environmental conditions as well as structural loadings and responses. In an SHM system, there are plenty of sensors to acquire a huge number of monitoring data, which can factually reflect the in-service condition of the target structure. In order to bridge the gap between SHM and structural maintenance and management (SMM), it is necessary to employ advanced data processing methods to convert the original multi-source heterogeneous field monitoring data into different types of specific physical indicators in order to make effective decisions regarding inspection, maintenance and management. Conventional approaches to data analysis are confronted with challenges from environmental noise, the volume of measurement data, the complexity of computation, etc., and they severely constrain the pervasive application of SHM technology. In recent years, with the rapid progress of computing hardware and image acquisition equipment, the deep learning-based data processing approach offers a new channel for excavating the massive data from an SHM system, towards autonomous, accurate and robust processing of the monitoring data. Many researchers from the SHM community have made efforts to explore the applications of deep learning-based approaches for structural damage detection and structural condition assessment. This paper gives a review on the deep learning-based SHM of civil infrastructures with the main content, including a brief summary of the history of the development of deep learning, the applications of deep learning-based data processing approaches in the SHM of many kinds of civil infrastructures, and the key challenges and future trends of the strategy of deep learning-based SHM.

In this paper, we implemented the exchange rate forecasting neural network using heterogeneous computing. Exchange rate forecasting requires a large amount of data. We used a neural network that could leverage this data accordingly. Neural networks are largely divided into two processes: learning and verification. Learning took advantage of the CPU. For verification, RTL written in Verilog HDL was run on FPGA. The structure of the neural network has four input neurons, four hidden neurons, and one output neuron. The input neurons used the US $ 1, Japanese 100 Yen, EU 1 Euro, and UK £ 1. The input neurons predicted a Canadian dollar value of $ 1. The order of predicting the exchange rate is input, normalization, fixed-point conversion, neural network forward, floating-point conversion, denormalization, and outputting. As a result of forecasting the exchange rate in November 2016, there was an error amount between 0.9 won and 9.13 won. If we increase the number of neurons by adding data other than the exchange rate, it is expected that more precise exchange rate prediction will be possible.

Machine learning constructs an objective function from learning data, and predicts the result of the data generated by checking the objective function through test data. In machine learning, input data is subjected to a normalisation process through a preprocessing. In the case of numerical data, normalization is standardized by using the average and standard deviation of the input data. In the case of nominal data, which is non-numerical data, it is converted into a one-hot code form. However, this preprocessing alone cannot solve the problem. For this reason, we propose a method that uses ontology to normalize input data in this paper. The test data for this uses the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) value of the Wi-Fi device collected from the mobile device. These data are solved through ontology because they includes noise and heterogeneous problems.
The present study examined whether Kang's (1999) model of the relationships among language learning strategy use and language proficiency for the Asian students could be applied to a more heterogeneous group. In Kang's study, he collected information of language learning strategies of 957 foreign students learning English as a second language in American colleges through a questionnaire. He also measured the subjects' language proficiency with the Institutional Testing Program TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). This study analyzed the same data without the limitation of cultural identity. Structural equation modeling was used to model the relationships among strategy use and language proficiency. Then, the model of the present study was descriptively compared with Kang's (1999) model for the Asian students. The overall flow of the relationship paths appeared to vary very little across the two models, which would have indicated that the generalizability of Kang's (1999) model could be extended more than originally examined. The goal of this research was to understand the patterns of multidimensional engagement in MOOCs. An email with an online survey link was sent to enrollees in an MOOC course. The survey included 35 questions asking about engagement, teaching presence, and learning persistence. The items were validated in the literature, revised for the MOOC setting, reviewed by four professionals in the field of educational technology, and used in the study. A heterogeneous group of 170 individuals gathered through convenience sampling participated in the study. With cluster analysis of the engagement data, three groups were identified: Cluster1, 2, and 3. Cluster 1 scored high on behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement. Cluster 2 scored high on behavioral aspects but low on emotional and cognitive engagement. Cluster 3 scored low on behavioral and cognitive engagement but high on emotional aspects. The study addressed cluster-specific learner characteristics and differences in perceived teaching presence and learning persistence. Design strategies pertaining to each cluster were further discussed. These strategies may guide instructors and practitioners in the design and management of MOOCs and should be further validated through future studies.

This paper aims to look at the perspective that the latest cutting-edge technologies are predicting individual diseases in the actual medical environment in a situation where various types of wearable devices are rapidly increasing and used in the healthcare domain. Through the process of collecting, processing, and transmitting data by merging clinical data, genetic data, and life log data through a user-participating wearable device, it presents the process of connecting the learning model and the feedback model in the environment of the Deep Neural Network. In the case of the actual field that has undergone clinical trial procedures of medical IT occurring in such a high-tech medical field, the effect of a specific gene caused by metabolic syndrome on the disease is measured, and clinical information and life log data are merged to process different heterogeneous data. That is, it proves the objective suitability and certainty of the deep neural network of heterogeneous data, and through this, the performance evaluation according to the noise in the actual deep learning environment is performed. In the case of the automatic encoder, we proved that the accuracy and predicted value varying per 1,000 EPOCH are linearly changed several times with the increasing value of the variable.
The design of safe and economical structures depends on the reliable live load from load survey. Live load surveys are traditionally conducted by randomly selecting rooms and weighing each item on-site, a method that has problems of low efficiency, high cost, and long cycle time. This paper proposes a deep learning-based method combined with Internet big data to perform live load surveys. The proposed survey method utilizes multi-source heterogeneous data, such as images, voice, and product identification, to obtain the live load without weighing each item through object detection, web crawler, and speech recognition. The indoor objects and face detection models are first developed based on fine-tuning the YOLOv3 algorithm to detect target objects and obtain the number of people in a room, respectively. Each detection model is evaluated using the independent testing set. Then web crawler frameworks with keyword and image retrieval are established to extract the weight information of detected objects from Internet big data. The live load in a room is derived by combining the weight and number of items and people. To verify the feasibility of the proposed survey method, a live load survey is carried out for a meeting room. The results show that, compared with the traditional method of sampling and weighing, the proposed method could perform efficient and convenient live load surveys and represents a new load research paradigm.
