This study estimates possibility and limitation on production of DEM using aerial photo by comparison of DEMs using aerial photo and digital map. Mountain and urban areas show higher elevation in DEM using aerial photo than in DEM using digital map, due to height of vegetation cover and buildings, respectively. However, artificial affects due to bridge, embankment and road construction are responsible for areas with higher elevation in DEM using digital map than in DEM using aerial photo. This difference in elevation between DEMs seems to be caused by rapid change in real elevation that is not reflected in digital map. There is little difference in elevation between DEMs in plain and area with little or no vegetation cover. This study suggests that problems associated with vegetation cover and error by GCP should be fixed, although DEM using aerial photo can quantitatively and 3-dimensionally reconstruct topography with a high resolution.

This study has developed various DEMs with different spatial resolutions using many different interpolation methods with the aid of a 1:5,000 digital map. In addition, this study has evaluated the vertical accuracy of various DEMs constructed by check point data obtained from the network RTK GPS survey. The obtained results suggest that a DEM developed from the TIN-based Terrain method performs well in evaluating height restriction of buildings in a flying safety area considering general RMSE values, land-type RMSE values and profile evaluation results, etc. And, it has been found that three meters is the right spatial resolution for a DEM in evaluating height restriction of buildings in a flying safety area. Meanwhile, elevation values obtained by the DEM are not point estimation values but interval estimation values. This can be used to check whether the height of buildings in the vicinity of an airfield violates height limitation values of the area. To check whether the height of buildings measured in interval estimation values violates height limitation values of the area, this study has adopted three steps: 1) high probability of violation, 2) low probability of violation, 3) inconclusiveness about the violation. The obtained results will provide an important basis for developing a GIS related to the evaluation of height restriction of buildings in the vicinity of an airfield. Furthermore, although results are limited to the study area, the vertical accuracy values of the DEM constructed from a two-dimensional digital map may provide useful information to researchers who try to use DEMs.

As the Arctic melt ponds play an important role in determining the interannual variation of the sea ice extent and changes in the Arctic environment, it is crucial to monitor the Arctic melt ponds with high accuracy. Ice, Cloud, and Land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2), which is the NASA's latest altimeter satellite based on the green laser (532 nm), observes the global surface elevation. When compared to the CryoSat-2 altimetry satellite whose along-track resolution is 250 m, ICESat-2 is highly expected to provide much more detailed information about Arctic melt ponds thanks to its high along-track resolution of 70 cm. The basic products of ICESat-2 are the surface height and the number of reflected photons. To aggregate the neighboring information of a specific ICESat-2 photon, the segments of photons with 10 m length were used. The standard deviation of the height and the total number of photons were calculated for each segment. As the melt ponds have the smoother surface than the sea ice, the lower variation of the height over melt ponds can make the melt ponds distinguished from the sea ice. When the melt ponds were extracted, the number of photons per segment was used to classify the melt ponds covered with open-water and specular ice. As photons are much more absorbed in the water-covered melt pondsthan the melt ponds with the specular ice, the number of photons persegment can distinguish the water- and ice-covered ponds. As a result, the suggested melt pond detection method was able to classify the sea ice, water-covered melt ponds, and ice-covered melt ponds. A qualitative analysis was conducted using the Sentinel-2 optical imagery. The suggested method successfully classified the water- and ice-covered ponds which were difficult to distinguish with Sentinel-2 optical images. Lastly, the pros and cons of the melt pond detection using satellite altimetry and optical images were discussed.

The total length, head length, head height, eye diameter, retina thickness, and lens diameter of the dotted gizzard shad, Konosirus punctatus, showed positive allometric relationships between hatching and 30 days post-hatching (dph). The increase in total length relative to head length and head height, head length growth relative to eye and lens diameter, head height growth relative to eye diameter and lens diameter, and thickness of the retina relative to eye diameter, lens diameter, head length, and head height were showed allometric relationships. The eyes were formed completely at 9 dph. At this age, the eye has a lens, an optic nerve fiber layer, a ganglion cell layer, an inner plexiform layer, an inner nuclear layer, an outer plexiform layer, an outer nuclear layer, an outer limiting membrane, a rod and cone layer, and an epithelial layer. The essential demands that must be met by the retina in this species pertain to light sensitivity and spatial resolution.

The leaf area index (LAI) is a major factor explaining the photosynthesis of vegetation, evapotranspiration, and energy exchange between the earth surface and atmosphere, and there have been studies on accurate and applicable LAI estimation methods. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the actual LAI data, UAV image-based vegetation index, canopy height and satellite image (Sentinel-2) LAI and to present an effective LAI estimation method using UAV. As a result, among the six vegetation indices in this study, NDRE ($R^2=0.496$) and CIRE ($R^2=0.443$), which contained red-edge band, showed a high correlation. The application of the canopy height model data to the vegetation index improved the explanatory power of the LAI. In addition, in the case of NDVI, the saturation problem caused by the linear relationship with LAI was addressed. In this study, it was possible to estimate high resolution LAI using UAV images. It is expected that the applicability of such data will be improved if calibration and correction steps are carried out for various vegetation and seasonal images.

In this paper, we propose a method aiming at updating the building information of the digital maps using single high resolution satellite image and digital map. Firstly we produced a digital orthoimage through the automatic co-registration of QuickBird image and 1:1,000 digital map. Secondly we extracted building height information through the template matching of digital map's building vector data and the image's edges obtained by Canny operator. Finally we refined the shape of some buildings by using the result from template matching as the seed polygon of the greedy snake algorithm. In order to evaluate the proposed method's effectiveness, we estimated accuracy of the extracted building information using LiDAR DSM and 1:1,000 digital map. The evaluation results showed the proposed method has a good potential for extraction and revision of building information.
This research presents the correction method to correct the location error of cloud caused by parallax error, and how the method can reduce the position error. The procedure has two steps: first step is to retrieve the corrected satellite zenith angle from the original satellite zenith angle. Second step is to adjust the location of the cloud with azimuth angle and the corrected satellite zenith angle retrieved from the first step. The position error due to parallax error can be as large as 60km in case of 70 degree of satellite zenith angle and 15 km of cloud height. The validation results by MODIS(Moderate-Resolution Imaging Spectrometer) show that the correction method in this study properly adjusts the original cloud position error and can increase the utilization of geostationary satellite data.

A two-dimensional numerical tidal model with $1/3^\circ$ resolution has been established to investigate the distribution of semidiurnal constituents$(M_2,\;S_2,\;K_2,\;N_2)$ and diurnal constituents$(K_1,\;O_1,\;P_1,\;Q_1)$ of the global ocean. The $1/3^\circ$ numerical model has been applied to the computation of detailed tidal distributions in the marginal seas and the shelf seas. Tidal characteristics in shallow areas could be hardly resolved with the existing global chart due to the low resolution. Computed tidal charts obtained by $1/3^\circ$ numerical model have been compared with the existing global charts and the altimetry-derived tidal charts. Computed harmonic constants have also been com-pared with the pelagic tidal observations. The results obtained with fine-grid numerical model can be used to determine the time-independent sea surface topography by removing the tidal components from the altimetry-derived sea surface height.
The microstructural characterization of ternary $ZnS_{x}Se_{1-x}$(x=0.085) on GaAs(001) substrate grown up to $2{\mu}m\;at\;300^{\circ}C$ by molecular beam epitaxy(MBE) which has a single growth chamber was investigated by high resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM) working at 300 kV with point resolution of 0.18nm. The interface in the ZnSSe/GaAs specimen maintains a pseudomorphism with the substrate, but the epilayer has high density of stacking faults and moire fringes. The pits which had formed along <111> direction were found at the interface of ZnSSe/GaAs. The pits were responsible for producing defects in both epilayer and substrate. The wavy interface which has the difference of 15nm in height was found to maintain the pseudomorphism with the substrate and no stacking faults were found around the interface. However there exists faint and fine moire fringes in the epilayer near interface.
Chiral separation of racemic ibuprofen was achieved on a Kromasil KR100-5CHI-TBB column. Some chromatographic parameters (resolution, number of theoretical plates, HETP, capacity factor) are calculated under different separation conditions such as change of mobile phase compositions (hexane / t-BME : 85 / 15, 75 / 15, 65 / 35, 55 /45) as well as acetic acid concentrations for adjusting pH (0.1 to 1 $v/v\%$). Flow rate versus number of theoretical plates and HETP were compared to evaluate column efficiency. To determine the adsorption isotherms, PIM (Pulsed Input Method) was carried out. At concentrations of racemic ibuprofen between 0.1 and 0.3 mg/ml, S- and R-ibuprofen have the same retention time of 4.48 and 5.81 min. Ibuprofen isotherms show a linear form under concentrations of 0.3 mg/ml with eluent (hexane / t-BME = 55 / 45).
