Development of a Control System for Automated Line Heating Process by an Object-Oriented Approach

  • A control system for an automated line heating process is developed by use of object-oriented methodology. The main function of the control system is to provide real-time heating information to technicians or automated machines. The information includes heating location, torch speed, heating order, and others. The system development is achieved by following the five steps in the object-oriented procedure. First, requirements are specified and corresponding objects are determined. Then, the analysis, design, and implementation of the proposed system are sequentially carried out. The system consists of six subsystems, or modules. These are (1) the inference module with an artificial neural network algorithm, (2) the analysis module with the Finite Element Method and kinematics analysis, (3) the data access module to store and retrieve the forming information, (4) the communication module, (5) the display module, and (6) the measurement module. The system is useful, irrespective of the heating sources, i.e. flame/gas, laser, or high frequency induction heating. A newly developed automated line heating machine is connected to the proposed system. Experiments and discussions follow.

열변형 해석 기구를 통한 선상 가열에서의 가열선 수정에 관한 연구 (A Mechanics-Based Determination of Heating Lines in Line Heating Process)

  • 선체는 많은 다중곡(compound curvature)을 가진 판들로 이루어져 있으며 이러한 판들을 가공하기 위해서, 조선소에서는 선상 가열(line heating) 방법이 널리 이용되어 왔다. 선상 가열법에서 가열선을 결정하는 방법으로 지금까지는 기하 변형해석을 이용하여 가열선을 제시하여 왔다. 그러나 기하해석으로 구한 가열선에 대한 역학적 검증이 이루어지지 않고 있으며 여러 가열선 중 어떤 가공선을 선택할 것인가에 대한 연구도 이루어지지 않고 있다. 본 논문에서는 기하해석을 통해 판의 가열정보를 얻었을 때 이를 역학적으로 검증하여 실제로 판에 가열정보대로 가공을 하였을 때 나타날 수 있는 판의 거동을 예측하였다. 또한 본 논문에서는 적정 가열선을 찾는 전체 과정을 제시하였다. 가공정보로부터 예측된 가공형상을 구한 후 목적형상과 비교하여 가공형상이 목적형상의 오차범위 내에 존재할 때까지 가열선의 조정변수를 변화시켜 적절한 가공정보를 획득하였다.

강판의 곡가공 자동화를 위한 수치제어 시스템의 개발 (Development of Numerical Control System for Plate forming Automation)

  • This paper deals with the development of an interface program for automatic plate forming, which can exchange information between the heating line information generation program and the automatic heating apparatus. In this paper, the performance of the developed interface program has been verified from the view point of numerical position control. By applying the interface program to the operation of the automatic heating apparatus, an experiment of line heating has been conducted for several steel plate models. Based on the experimental results, a simplified relation to estimate angular distortion has keen derived as a natural characteristic of the present automatic heating apparatus. As a result of the present study, the prototype of the automatic plate forming system has been constructed, and its application to the real surface models found in the ship will be presented in the near future.

선상가열법에 의한 강판의 변형 예측식 개발 (Development of Formulas to Predict Deformations in Plate by Line Heating Method)

  • Although a great deal of research has been carried out to solve the plate forming problem and to improve the effectiveness and productivity of the plate forming process, no practical way of automating the plate forming process has been proposed yet. Since characteristics of heating machines may vary, it is necessary to investigate the thermal deformation characteristics of the heating machine that will be used in the automation system its characteristics may be modified as new information about thermal deformation by heating becomes available. In this paper, experiments for line heating have been carried out to calculate the formula of predicting thermal deformation due to line heating with varying affecting parameters, and numerical study has been carried out to produce data beyond the range where a line heating test is impractical. Formulas of predicting transverse distortion and shrinkage have been proposed and derived, based on the present experimental and numerical works. This paper also illustrates how the formula has been modified as new experimental data are added.

선상가열 변형예측식 자동 산출을 위한 지식기반 방법의 개발 (Development of Knowledge-based Method to Automatically Derive the Deformation Estimation Formula due to Line Heating)

  • For the last couple of decades many studies have been carried out to find out solutions to improve the effectiveness and productivity of the plate forming process. The practical way for the automation of the plate forming process has not been, however, developed yet. Since the characteristics of heating machines may be different form each other, it is necessary to investigate the thermal deformation characteristics of the heating machine to be used in the automation system. And their characteristics may be updated as new information about thermal deformation by heating is accumulated. In this paper, data base system has been constructed based on the results of experiments and numerical analyses, which will be used in deriving the deformation estimation formula. The computer code which can automatically derive the deformation estimation formula has been also developed. This paper also illustrates how the formula is updated as experimental data are added. From the present findings, it can be said that the automatic deriving procedure may be important in the automated plate forming system since the heating line information to be generated must be directly influenced by the deformation estimation formula.

  • In this paper the automatic plate forming system developed by the present research group is introduced, which would be helpful for other researchers. The present system consists of three parts : heating line information generation software, automatic heating apparatus and numerical control system. The numerical control system developed by the present authors is detailed. Performance test for the developed system has been carried out and good results has been obtained. As an extension of the present study, the present automatic plate fanning system will be applied to surfaces found in ship and offshore structure.

  • PLC (Power Line Communication) is the communication method using the existing power line installed in houses and offices to convert and transmit high frequency communication signal from tens of KHz to tens of MHz, and receive the filtered signal using high frequency filter. The advantage of PLC is that PLC uses the existing power line installed in houses and offices so it does not require separate power line. Easy and convenient access using electric outlets is another advantage of PLC. However, PLC has some disadvantages such as limited transmission power, high load interference and noise, variable signal attenuation, characteristic of impedance selective possibility of frequency property. This study designed the boiler temperature control system by unit using the modem designed on the basis of technology used for PLC modem, and designed remote control system using internet. After conducting experiments with those two systems, it was possible to control stably. By commercializing this product, we can avoid unnecessary heating of separate temperature control unit, and save the cost according1y, and it is possible to control on a remote site using internet in a more convenient way.

최소 2차 가공을 위한 이중 곡면의 롤러 굽힘 형상 결정 (A Determination of Approximated Cylindrical Surfaces of Doubly Curved Surfaces for the Least Line Heating)

  • 선박의 선미부와 선수부는 복잡한 곡을 가진 블록들의 조립으로 만들어진다. 이러한 복잡한 곡률 분포를 가진 이중 곡면을 성형하기 위해서 조선소에서는 롤러 굽힘 가공과 선상 가열을 이용하고 있다. 일차적으로는 롤러 굽힘에 의한 가공으로 실린더 형상이나 원추 형상의 곡면을 만들고 난 후, 선상 가열을 수행하여 목적 형상으로 이차 가공을 한다. 본 논문은 곡면 가공에서 선행되는 일차 가공의 정보로서 가공 방향과 가공 후 형상을 결정하는데 목적이 있다. 목적 형상의 가우스 변환(Gauss mapping)으로부터 가공 방향에 관한 정보를 결정하고 목적 형상과 롤러 굽힘 가공에 의해 변형된 판 사이의 기하학적 관계를 이용하여 롤러 굽힘 가공의 모양을 결정하는 알고리즘을 제시하였다.

  • 선체 외판 중 약 70% 정도가 3차원 곡면 형상으로 구성되어 있다. 이러한 3차원 형상을 자동으로 성형하기 위해서 수년간 많은 연구를 수행하여 오고 있는 실정이다. 본 연구의 목적은 가열현상을 합리적으로 대변할 수 있는 역학적 모델을 도입하여 가열 Simulator를 개발하는데 있다. 이를 위해 가열 결과에 영향을 줄 수 있는 가열 위치 ,강판의 두께, 가열 속도 등 다양한 인자로써 실험을 수행하였다. 본 연구에서 개발한 가열 Simulator의 정당성을 입증하고자 몇 가지 모델에 대해 적용하여, 실험결과와 Simulator의 추정치를 비교한 결과 만족할 만한 결과를 나타내었으며, Simulator에 적용된 이론적 배경의 합당성을 확인할 수 있었다.

Analysis on Ampacity of Overhead Transmission Lines Being Operated

  • Dynamic thermal rating (DTR) system is an effective method to improve the capacity of existing overhead line. According to the methodology based on CIGRE (International Council on Large Electric systems) standard, ampacity values under steady-state heating balance can be calculated from ambient environmental conditions. In this study, simulation analysis of relations between parameters and ampacity is described as functional dependence, which can provide an effective basis for the design and research of overhead transmission lines. The simulation of ampacity variation in different rating scales is described in this paper, which are determined from real-time meteorological data and conductor state parameters. To test the performance of DTR in different rating scales, capacity improvement and risk level are presented. And the experimental results show that the capacity of transmission line by using DTR has significant improvement, with low probability of risk. The information of this study has an important reference value to the operation management of power grid.
