Performance Analysis of the Wind Power Heat Generation Drum Using Fluid Frictional Energy (유체마찰에너지를 이용한 풍력열발생조의 성능 분석)

  • This study was conducted in order to develop wind-water heating system where frictional heat is creased between the rotor and working fluid when they are rotating in the cylindrical heat generator. The wind-water heating system is composed of rotor, stator, working fluid, motor, inverter and heat generation tank. Instead of wind turbine, we have used an electrical motor of 30㎾ to rotate the rotor in this system. Two working fluids and six levels of rotor rpm were tested to quantify heat amounts generated by the system. Generally, as motor rpm goes up heat amount increases that we have expected. At the same rpm, viscous fluid showed up better performance than the water, generating more heat by 10$\^{C}$ difference. The greatest heat amount of 31,500kJ/h was obtained when the system constantly drained out the hot water of at the flow rate of 500ℓ/h. Power consumption rate of the motor was measured by thee phase electric power meter where the largest power consumption rate was 14㎾ when motor rpm was 600 and gained heat was 31,500kJ/h, that indicated total thermal efficiency of the wind power water heating system was 62%.

Effect of refrigeration lubricants on the heat transfer performance in the microfin tube evaporator (마이크로핀관 증발기내 전열 성능에 미치는 냉동기유의 영향)

  • The present study experimentally investigated the effect of refrigeration lubricant on the heat transfer performance in the straight sections and U-bend of a microfin tube evaporator by using R-22/mineral oil and R-407C/POE oil. The apparatus consisted of test section with U-bend, preheater, condenser, oil injection and sampling devices, magnetic pump, mass flow meter etc. The experimental parameters were oil concentration of 0 to 5 wt%, inlet quality of 0.1 to 0.5, mass flux of 219 and $400kg/m^2s$ and heat flux of 10 and $20kW/m^2$. The effects of parameters on the heat transfer coefficients were large in the order of inlet quality, mass flux and heat flux as oil concentration got increased. As oil concentration was increased, heat transfer coefficients were continuously decreased for R-22 and increased by 3% up to the concentration of 1% and then decreased for R-407C under the condition of large inlet quality, and small mass flux and heat flux. But, the heat transfer coefficients were increased up to the concentration of 3% and then decreased for both R-22 and R-407C refrigerants under the opposite conditions. The variation of enhancement factors for R-407C was under 50% of that for R-22 and the variation with respect to the positions in the test section was small. The pressure drops were increased for both R-22 and R-407C refrigerants as oil concentration was increased. The pressure drops for R-407C were smaller by the maximum of 18% than those for R-22.

Pool Boiling Heat Transfer Coefficients Up to Critical Heat flux on Low-fin and Turbo-B Surfaces (낮은 핀 표면과 Turbo-B 촉진 표면에서 임계 열유속까지의 풀 비등 열전달계수)

  • In this work, nucleate pool boiling heat transfer coefficients(HTCs) of 5 refrigerants of differing vapor pressure are measured on horizontal low fin and Turbo-B square surfaces of 9.53 mm length. Tested refrigerants are R32, R22, R134a, R152a and R245fa and HTCs are taken from 10 $kW/m^2$ to critical heat fluxes for all refrigerant at $7^{\circ}C$. Wall and fluid temperatures are measured directly by thermocouples located underneath the test surface and in the liquid pool. Test results show that Critical heat fluxes(CHFs) of all enhanced surfaces are greatly improved as compared to that of a plain surface in all tested refrigerants. CHFs of all refrigerants on the 26 fpi low fin surface are increased up to 240% as compared to that of the plain surface. HTCs on both low fin and Turbo-B surfaces increase with heat flux. After certain heat flux, however, they decrease. CHFs of the Turbo-B enhanced surface are lower than that of the 26 fpi low fin surface. This phenomenon is due to the difference in surface structure of the low fin and Turbo-B surface.

Effects of Land Cover Change on Summer Urban Heat Island Intensity and Heat Index in Seoul Metropolitan Area, Korea (서울 수도권 지역의 토지 피복 변화가 여름철 도시열섬 강도와 체감온도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigates the impacts of land cover change due to urbanization on the Urban Heat Island Intensity (UHII) and the Heat Index (HI) over the Seoul metropolitan area using the Unified Model (UM) with the Met Office Reading Urban Surface Exchange Scheme (MORUSES) during the heat wave from 16, July to 5, August 2018. Two simulations are performed with the late 1980s land-use (EXP1980) and the late 2000s land-use (EXP2000). EXP2000 is verified using Automatic Weather Station (AWS) data from 85 points in the study area, and observation sites are classified into two categories according to the urban fraction change over 20 years; Category A is 0.2 or less increase, and Category B is 0.2 or more increase. The 1.5-m temperature and relative humidity in Category B increase by up to 1.1℃ and decreased by 7% at 1900 LST and 2000 LST, respectively. This means that the effect of the urban fraction changes is higher at night. UHII increases by up to 0.3℃ in Category A and 1.3℃ in Category B at 1900 LST. Analysis of the surface energy balance shows that the heat store for a short time during the daytime and release at nighttime with upward sensible heat flux. As a result of the HI, there is no significant difference between the two experiments during the daytime, but it increases 1.6℃ in category B during the nighttime (2200 LST). The results indicate that the urbanization increase both UHII, and HI, but the times of maximum difference between EXP1980 and EXP2000 are different.

  • Head up display’s cooling system is auto-diagnosed resulting from the external environment. The quantity of heat depending on this Head up display’s cooling system layout determines the speed of FAN for system cooling. In other words, a system’s heat quantity is planned through the air density depending on altitude, the amount of wind in air depending on FAN control condition, and the algorithm that is proportional to delta temperature. To detect the altitude, we use the criteria of delta T, which is determined by the subtracted value of LED junction temperature, and atmospheric temperature that is recorded on the Head up display system. Depending on the classification of delta T value, the altitude section is determined. While we can use GPS as the tool to detect the altitude, we should predict the change of the air density as the altitude alters, and should not just measure the altitude. And the value of delta T is used as the criterion of detecting the altitude for increasing the cooling efficiency of the car’s inner Head up display system with reflecting the speed of the FAN dependent upon the air density. In our theory, altitude is depending on the value of delta T and stabilizing or maintaining the system’s temperature by changing FAN’s rpm depending on determined value of altitude.

A Study on the Urban Heat Simulation Model Incorporating the Climate Changes (기후변화가 반영된 도시 열환경 시뮬레이션 모델의 연구)

  • A fast running model comprising the climate change effects is proposed for urban heat environment simulations so as to be used in urban heat island studies and/or the urban planning practices. By combining Hot City Model, a high resolution urban temperature prediction model utilizing the Lagrangian particle tracing technique, and the numerical weather simulation data which are constructed up to year of 2100 under the climate change scenarios, an efficient model is constructed for simulating the future urban heat environments. It is applicable to whole city as well as to a small block area of an urban region, with the computation time being relatively short, requiring the practically manageable amount of the computational resources. The heat environments of the entire metropolitan Seoul area in South Korea are investigated with the aid of the model for the present time and for the future. The results showed that the urban temperature gradually increase up to a significant level in the future. The possible effects of green roofs on the buildings are also studied, and we observe that green roofs don't lower the urban temperature efficiently while making the temperature fields become more homogeneous.

  • A heat pump dryer for the frozen food needs to preheat the air to a certain temperature where condensation can efficiently occur. In this study, an analysis of a heat pump dryer performance with operating conditions, an analysis of supplying heat with internal and external evaporators and a warm-up experiment with the evaporators have been performed. The results showed that the external evaporator can significantly accelerate the warm-up time of the dryer, so that it can reduce power consumption greatly. The use of the external evaporator is more efficient for higher ambient temperature. In addition, it was found that COP decreases and the range of evaporating pressure for the evaporator becomes narrower as the condensing temperature of the condenser increases.

A flammability limit model for hydrogen-air-diluent mixtures based on heat transfer characteristics in flame propagation

  • Predicting lower flammability limits (LFL) of hydrogen has become an ever-important task for safety of nuclear industry. While numerous experimental studies have been conducted, LFL results applicable for the harsh environment are still lack of information. Our aim is to develop a calculated non-adiabatic flame temperature (CNAFT) model to better predict LFL of hydrogen mixtures in nuclear power plant. The developed model is unique for incorporating radiative heat loss during flame propagation using the CNAFT coefficient derived through previous studies of flame propagation. Our new model is more consistent with the experimental results for various mixtures compared to the previous model, which relied on calculated adiabatic flame temperature (CAFT) to predict the LFL without any consideration of heat loss. Limitation of the previous model could be explained clearly based on the CNAFT coefficient magnitude. The prediction accuracy for hydrogen mixtures at elevated initial temperatures and high helium content was improved substantially. The model reliability was confirmed for $H_2-air$ mixtures up to $300^{\circ}C$ and $H_2-air-He$ mixtures up to 50 vol % helium concentration. Therefore, the CNAFT model developed based on radiation heat loss is expected as the practical method for predicting LFL in hydrogen risk analysis.

CONVECTIVE HEAT TRANSFER CHARACTERISTICS OF OVAL FIN-CIRCULAR TUBE HEAT EXCHANGER (타원형휜-원형관 열교환기의 강제대류 열전달 특성)

  • The purpose of the present study is to investigate the flow resistance and the heat transfer characteristics of oval fin-tube heat exchanger. Six kinds of oval fin having the same fin area and different diameter ratio tested numerically. Test data for the heat transfer, pressure drop and fin temperature were shown and discussed. The pressure drop and heat transfer increased for increasing the oval fin diameter ratio(diameter of span-wise direction to diameter of longitudinal diameter) up to 50% and 45% respectively.

An Experimental visualization of the Pool Boiling Heat Transfer on the Inclined square surface (경사진 가열면에서의 수조비등에 대한 가시화 연구)

  • An experimental study was carried out to identify the various regimes of natural convective boiling and to determine the Critical Heat Flux(CHF) on a 70mm square surface which is inclined at $180^{\circ}$(upward), $90^{\circ}, \;45^{\circ}$. The heater block made of copper with cartridge heaters is submerged in a water tank with windows for visualization. As the heat flux increases from $100kW/m^2$ to $1.1MW/m^2$, the heat transfer regime migrates from the nucleate boiling to film boiling and results in a rapid heat up of the heater block. An explosive vapor generation on the heated surface, whose size and frequency are characterized by the heat flux, is visualized by using a digital camcorder with $512{\times}512$ pixel size at 30fps.
