  • This study was to determine the characteristics of vapor-permeable waterproof finished fabric by the coating method. 4 different kinds of coating fabrics (A : wet, porous, polyurethane, B : dry, no porous, polyurethane, C : shape memory polyurethane and D : dry, porous polyurethane) were used, which were developed recently With this sample, moisture transport rate ($40^{\circ}C$, 45%RH & $40^{\circ}C$, 95%RH), changes of coating side's shape by washing times, water repellency rate, contracted length, qmax, heat conductivity, heat keeping rate, heat keeping rate with cotton, heat keeping rate on humidity temperature and humidity within clothing etc. were checked. And it was done in a climate chamber under $20{\pm}2^{\circ}C$, $65{\pm}5%RH$. The results of this study were as follow; In the moisture vapor transmission of sample B and C increased on high temperature and high humidity while sample A and D decreased, on this condition. Qmax rate had high relation with ground fabric's surface properties and the order was A>C>D>B. Heat conductivity had high relation with thickness and surface properties. Heat keeping rates on sweat condition showed around half percents of heat keeping rates on normal condition, but had no relation with moisture vapor transport rate. Changes of the fabric's properties by washing times were different in accordance with the construction of fabrics and the coating resin. Sample C had tow heat keeping rate on the high temperature and humidity and high heat keeping rate on the low temperature and humidity Moisture transport rate of vapor-permeable waterproof finished fabrics had high relation with the properties of ground fabrics on low humidity condition, but on the high humidity condition, it was highly related with the properties of coating resin.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of fiber type, compressional resilience and moisture transport properties of wool and polyester fiber on the heat transfer of insulation nonwovens. The results obtained were as follows: 1) Overall heat transfer of wool nonwoven was slightly higher than that of polyester nonwovens. Warmability of wool nonwoven was lower than that of polyester nonwovens. The radiative heat transfer was in the range of 11~18% of overall heat transfer in polyester nonwovens and 25% in wool nonwoven. 2) As wool nonwoven compressed, overall heat transfer was increased by increasing radiative heat transfer and wamability was decreased due to the poor compressional resilience. 3) Increasing rate of heat transfer by moisture absorption in wool nonwoven was lower than that of polyester nonwovens. Thickness and compressional resilience of wool nonwoven were reduced extremely by moisture absorption.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the suitability of several knit fabrics for the hadicapped children's slacks. After the observation and wearing test abrasion resistance pilling liquid water transport properties and heat transport properties of the fabrics were tested. As specimens cotton/polypropylene interlock knits and sweat absorbent polyester knit fabric were selected and compared to the cotton denim and wool fabrics. As a result of observation test importance of extensibility durability and comfort related properties were recognized. Through the wearing test depending on the handicap type and orthoses different location and grade of pilling were observed. Knit fabrics used in this experiment were as durable as woven fabrics and showed excellent heat and liquid water transport properties. It was concluded therefore that cotton/polypropylene and sweat absorbent polyester knit fabrics are suitable materials for handicapped children's slacks.

  • The TMSR-SF0 simulator is an integral effect thermal-hydraulic experimental system for the development of thorium molten salt reactor (TMSR) program in China. The simulator has two heat transport loops with liquid FLiNaK. In literature, the 95% level confidence uncertainties of the thermophysical properties of FLiNaK are recommended, and the uncertainties of density, heat capacity, thermal conductivity and viscosity are ±2%, ±10, ±10% and ±10% respectively. In order to investigate the effects of thermophysical properties uncertainties on the molten salt heat transport system, the uncertainty and sensitivity analysis of the heat transfer characteristics of the simulator system are carried out on a RELAP5 model. The uncertainties of thermophysical properties are incorporated in simulation model and the Monte Carlo sampling method is used to propagate the input uncertainties through the model. The simulation results indicate that the uncertainty propagated to core outlet temperature is about ±10 ℃ with a confidence level of 95% in a steady-state operation condition. The result should be noted in the design, operation and code validation of molten salt reactor. In addition, more experimental data is necessary for quantifying the uncertainty of thermophysical properties of molten salts.

  • The velocity auto-correlation (VAC) function of liquid argon in the Green-Kubo formula decays quickly within 5 ps to give a well-defined diffusion coefficient because the velocity is the property of each individual particle, whereas the stress (SAC) and heat-flux auto-correlation (HFAC) functions for shear viscosity and thermal conductivity have non-decaying, long-time tails because the stress and heat-flux appear as system properties. This problem can be overcome through N (number of particles)-fold improvement in the statistical accuracy, by considering the stress and the heat-flux of the system as properties of each particle and by deriving new Green-Kubo formulas for shear viscosity and thermal conductivity. The results obtained for the transport coefficients of liquid argon obtained are discussed.

  • Numerical analysis has been carried out to investigate laminar convective heat transfer in a tube for supercritical water near the thermodynamic critical point. Fluid flow and heat transfer are strongly coupled due to large variations of thermodynamic and transport properties such as density, specific heat, viscosity, and thermal conductivity near the critical point. Heat transfer characteristics in the developing region of the tube show transition behavior between liquid-like and gas-like phases with a peak in heat transfer coefficient distribution near the pseudocritical point. The peak of the heat transfer coefficient depends on pressure and wall heat flux rather than inlet temperature and Reynolds number, Results of the modeling provide convective heat transfer characteristics including velocity vectors, temperature, and the properties as well as the heat transfer coefficient. The effect of proximity to the critical point is considered and a heat transfer correlation is suggested for the peak of Nusselt number in the tube.

  • A 2-dimensional numerical analysis is presented for thermal-electron heat conduction effects upon the electron transport and the drain current-voltage characteristics of submicron GaAs MESFETs, based on the use of a nonstationary hydrodynamic transport model. It is shown that for submicron GaAs MESFETs, electron heat conduction effects are significant on their internal electronic properties and also drain current-voltage characteristics. Due to electron heat conduction effects, the electron energy is greatly one-djmensionalized over the entire device region. Also, the drain current decreases continuously with increasing thermal conductivity in the saturation region of large drain voltages above 1 V. However, the opposite trend is observed in the linear region of small drain voltages below 1 V. Accordingly, for a large thermal conductivity, negative differential resistance drain current characteristics are observed with a pronounced peak of current at the drain voltage of 1 V. On the contrary, for zero thermal conductivity, a Gunn oscillation characteristic is observed at drain voltages above 2 V under a zero gate bias condition.

  • This paper presents results for the calculation of transport properties of noble gases (He, Ne, Ar, Kr, and Xe) at 273.15 K and 1.00 atm using equilibrium molecular dynamics (EMD) simulations through a Lennard-Jones (LJ) intermolecular potential. We have utilized the revised Green-Kubo formulas for the stress (SAC) and the heat-flux auto-correlation (HFAC) functions to estimate the viscosities (${\eta}$) and thermal conductivities (${\lambda}$) of noble gases. The original Green-Kubo formula was employed for diffusion coefficients (D). The results for transport properties (D, ${\eta}$, and ${\lambda}$) of noble gases at 273.15 and 1.00 atm obtained from our EMD simulations are in a good agreement with the rigorous results of the kinetic theory and the experimental data. The radial distribution functions, mean square displacements, and velocity auto-correlation functions of noble gases are remarkably different from those of liquid argon at 94.4 K and 1.374 $g/cm^3$.
