This study was performed to establish the characteristics of the heat affected zones from view point of the repair weldability for a damaged CrMoV steam turbine rotor steel. Characterization of the heat affected zones of the weldment was conducted with respect to various of postweld heat treatment temperatures, $566^{\circ}C$, $621^{\circ}C$ and $677^{\circ}C$. The evaluations of the heat affected zones were carried out in terms of microstructural characterization, microhardness measurements, Charpy v-notch impact, tensile and stress-rupture tests. The results indicated that the effect of the postweld heat treatment at $677^{\circ}C$ exhibited the favorable microstructure and mechanical properties for the stability of the heat affected zones. While the heat affected zone of the weldment, produced without postweld heat treatment, displayed the inferior toughness and microstructure indicating localized carbide precipitations on the grain boundary. It was also indicated that the stability of the heat affected zones were deteriorated by the formation of the cavitation on the grain boundaries.
Purpose : The objective of this research was to investigate an optimization of drill design factors for implant stability and efficacy through comparative evaluation by the cutting time, heat generation and initial stability. Materials and Methods : Three design factors were considered for the purpose of drill design optimization; the number of flute(2 flute, 3 flute), helix angle($15^{\circ}$, $25^{\circ}$) and drill tip shape(straight, 2-phase). Design factors were selected through comparative evaluation by temperature change, cutting time and ISQ value. Results : Heat generation and cutting time are influenced by all design factors(p<0.05). Drill tip shape was the only factors which influenced to the largest initial stability(p<0.05). Conclusion : Drills with 2 flutes, 2-phase formed drill tip, and 25 degrees of helix angle exhibit a better performance than other design.
The purpose of this study was to determine the foaming properties of two small red bean protein isolates at various conditions. Data concerning the effects of pH, temperature, MaCl concentration, sugar concentration and protein concentration on the properties such as solubility, foam expansion, foam stability were presented. The results were summarized as follows : 1. The crude protein contents of two small red beans were 26.14% and 22.71%. The percentage of nonpolar amino acid group was the highest and that of sulfur containing amino acid group was the lowest. 2. Protein solubility showed the minimum at pH 4.5 which is isoelectric point of small red bean protein isolate adn heat treatment lowered solubility(P<0.05). At pH 4.5, solubility increased sighificantly as 0.4M NaCl was added. However, the effect of sugar concentration in the solubility was not significant. 3. Foam expansion of two small red bean protein isolates was high at pH 4.5 and heat treatment at 10$0^{\circ}C$ lowered foam expansion(P<0.05). While addition of NaCl, sugar did not affect the foma expansion, gradual increment of the protein isolates concentration up to 9% decreased the foma expansion slightly. 4. Foam stability was significantly high at pH 4.5 and heat treatment at 10$0^{\circ}C$ lowered foam stability. Addition of sugar caused slight decrease in foam stability. From 1% to 9% suspension, foma stability increased significantly as protein concentration increased(P<0.05)
Due to the fact that tocopherols and tocotrienols have antioxidant and anticancer properties, the commercial utilization of unsaponifiable fractions in rice bran is increasing. These nutraceutical compounds, however, are fairly unstable and readily break down when exposed to oxygen or lighting conditions. To compare the relative sensitivity of vit E isomers to heat and oxygen, concentrated unsaponifiable fractions extracted from crude rice bran oil were exposed to various temperature, oxygen (nitrogen-balanced), and bathing solvent conditions and resultant concentration changes in ${\alpha}$- and ${\gamma}$-tocopherols (T) and tocotrienols (T3) were evaluated. Each isomer exhibited different heat stability. Among them, ${\alpha}$-T3 degraded more rapidly compared to other vit E isomers while ${\alpha}$-T was the most stable isomer. Oxygen level also showed significant impact on each isomer's stability where severe reductions of ${\gamma}$-T (by 20%) and ${\gamma}$-T3 (by 29%) were observed under 2% oxygen conditions, while under 0% oxygen conditions no degradation could be observed even after exposure to $95^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours. When various blending solvents were mixed with concentrated unsaponifiable fractions, organic solvents such as isooctane and hexane were more effective in maintaining the stability of ${\gamma}$- T3 compared to edible oils, among which com oil was more efficient than soybean and rice bran oils.
The phase stability of tetragonal phase in Y-TZP was investigated in terms of the distribution of grain sizes and heat-treating atmosphere. Y-TZP with various grain sizes were prepared using duration time at $1600^{\circ}C$ as experimental parameter. Accumulated grain size distributions were built from the SEM micrographs and the amount of tetragonal phase were measured using XRD. Both results were compared to determine the critical grain size before and after heat-treatment in vacuum. The critical grain size drastically decreased compared with the small increase of average grain size due to the autocatalytic effect which critically affects the tetragonal to monoclinic phase transformation. After heat-treatment in reductive atmosphere critical grain size relatively increased due to the stabilization of tetragonal phase. The formation of oxygen vacancies during heat-treatment was ascribed to the increase of stability.

Geothermal heat pump system has been spotlighted as an efficient building energy system, because it has great potentials for reducing energy in building air conditioning and reducing $CO_2$ emissions. However, higher initial cost is a barrier to the promotion of its use. Energy-pile and energy-slab are known as low cost ground heat exchangers comparing with conventional ground heat exchangers, because they utilize building structures as ground heat exchangers. This paper presents the daily cooling performance of a geothermal heat pump system with energy-pile and energy-slab. The energy-piles and the energy-slabs are connected to heat pump units in parallel. The cooling capacity of the system was nearly constant due to the stability of the ground heat exchangers. The stability of the energy-pile was a little higher than that of the energy-stab as a heat sink.
An investigation on thermohydraulic stability of flow oscillations in the CANada Deuterium Uranium-600(CANDU-6) heat transport system has been conducted. Flow oscillations in reactor coolant loops, comprising two heat sources and two heat sinks in series, are possibly caused by the response of the pressure to extraction of fluid in two-phase region. This response consists of two contributions, one arising from mass and another from enthalpy change in the two-phase region. The system computer code used in the investigation os SOPHT, which is capable of simulating steady states as well as transients with varying boundary conditions. The model was derived by linearizing and solving one-dimensional, homogeneous single- and two-phase flow conservation equations. The mass, energy and momentum equations with boundary conditions are set up throughout the system in matrix form based on a node-link structure. Loop stability was studied under full power conditions with interconnecting the two compressible two phase regions in the figure-of-eight circuit. The dominant function of the interconnecting pipe is the transfer of mass between the two-phase regions. Parametric survey of loop stability characteristics, i. e., damping ratio and period, has been made as a function of geometrical parameters of the interconnection line such as diameter, length, height and orifice flow coefficient. The stability characteristics with interconnection line has been clarified to provide a simple criterion to be used as a guide in scaling of the pipe.
PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to compare the color stability, water sorption and cytotoxicity of thermoplastic acrylic resin for the non-metal clasp dentures to those of thermoplastic polyamide and conventional heat-polymerized denture base resins. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Three types of denture base resin, which are conventional heat-polymerized acrylic resin (Paladent 20), thermoplastic polyamide resin (Bio Tone), thermoplastic acrylic resin (Acrytone) were used as materials for this study. One hundred five specimens were fabricated. For the color stability test, specimens were immersed in the coffee and green tee for 1 and 8 weeks. Color change was measured by spectrometer. Water sorption was tested after 1 and 8 weeks immersion in the water. For the test of cytotoxicity, cell viability assay was measured and cell attachment was analyzed by FE-SEM. RESULTS. All types of denture base resin showed color changes after 1 and 8 weeks immersion. However, there was no significant difference between denture base resins. All specimens showed significant color changes in the coffee than green tee. In water sorption test, thermoplastic acrylic resin showed lower values than conventional heat-polymerized acrylic resin and thermoplastic polyamide resin. Three types of denture base showed low cytotoxicity in cell viability assay. Thermoplastic acrylic resin showed the similar cell attachment but more stable attachment than conventional heat-polymerized acrylic resin. CONCLUSION. Thermoplastic acrylic resin for the non-metal clasp denture showed acceptable color stability, water sorption and cytotoxicity. To verify the long stability in the mouth, additional in vitro studies are needed.
This study was undertaken to find out the effect of egg albumen concentration and addition of sugars on heat stability of egg albumen gel after heat treatment at $95^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes or at $120^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes. The hardness of albumen gel was decreased rapidly and the lightness and yellowness was decreased slowly as egg albumen was diluted regardless of heating condition. The cohesiveness was increased as the protein concentration was decreased at below 8.3%. The hardness of albumen gel was decreased by the addition of over 2.5% sucrose, and the cohesiveness was decreased slightly with the addition of sucrose. The addition of glucose improved the cohesiveness and decreased lightness remarkably after heat treatment at 120% for 30 minutes.
This was investigated on the major issues and research trends regarding the heat-treatment of woods through literature reviews. The principal heat-treatment technologies utilized for industrial purposes include the Plato-process (Netherlands), the Retification process (France), the OHT-process (Germany), and the Thermowood Process (Finland). Factors that mainly influence the heat-treatment process are the wood species, process temperature, processing time, and the heating medium (air, steam, vacuum, N2, oil, etc.). Researches on investigating the optimal conditions with these process conditions being the variables stand as the mainstream. Heat-treated woods present dimensional stability improvement, but mass loss and strength reduction, a wide variations for decaying inhibition, and insufficient resistance against mold, wood borer, and termites. For further improvement in respects of durability or resistance to biological degradation, necessity to search for more suitable heat treatment process and processing conditions fit for each wood species has been suggested. Exploiting new ways to utilize heat-treated wood and extending its range of use have been considered to be important matters that need more effort put into for the sustainable and sound environment as well as saving the wood resources.
