This study deals with shear strength test for Pinus densiflora and Pinus radiata treated at above $100^{\circ}C$ by heat steam. Treatment conditions of this experiment were operated at regular intervals of $20^{\circ}C$ at temperatures up to $200^{\circ}C$ for 5, 10, 20 and 30 minutes by using the steam-explosion apparatus. It was examined, at high temperatures, degradation of some compounds from wood composition could lead to reduced the shear strength through heat steaming processes and play a large part in the plastic process of solid wood materials. It could be estimated that the shear strength of woods were gradually reduced by heat steaming time. Remarkable reduction of shear strength of woods was observed with increasing steaming temperatures above 10 minutes steaming time. Furthermore, this phenomenon shows a tendency to increase with higher temperatures. Therefore, it was considered that the softening by steaming treatment at high temperatures is necessary for the improvement on the wood processing ability.

This study was carried out to improve the thermal insulation properties of wool and wool- like fabrics by treating the fabrics with polyethylene glycol, to evaluate the fabric hand of PEG treated wool and wool-like fabrics and to grade up the fabric hand of the treated fabrics by treating with softening agents. Wool and wool-like fabrics were treated with high molecular PEG-8,000 by PDC. The thermal release/storage properties were measured on a DSC. Hand of specimens were evaluated by KES-FB system. The results were as follows; 1. PEG-treated fabrics showed thermal storage and thermal release properties by DSC and the heat contents were generally proportional to the add-ons. 2. PEG-treated fabrics showed higher Koshi and lower Numeri and Sofutosa values due to lower tensile energy and recovery and higher bending rigidity and shear stiffness as the add- ons increased. 3. PEG-treated fabrics showed much lower bending rigidity after softening agents treatment.
In bulk metal forming processes prediction of tool life is very important for saving production cost and achieving good material properties. Generally the service life of tools in metal forming process is limited to a large extent by wear, fracture and plastic deformation of tools. In case of hot and warm forging processes tool life depends on wear over 70%. In this study finite element analyses are con-ducted to warm and hot forging by adopting suggested wear model. By comparison of simulation and eal profile of die suggested wear model. By comparison of simulation and real profile of die suggested model is verified.
Weldability of the TMCP steel manufactured by controlled rolling followed by accelerated cooling process was investigated. For comparison, two other steel plates produced by different manufacturing processes were selected; normalized and controlled rolled. Tandem submerged arc welding with both side one run technique was carried out. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; TMCP steel having the lowest carbon equivalent shows the best combination of mechanical properties, not only in the base metal but also in the heat affected zone. In the HAZ, the accelerated colling effect imarted on the trengthis releved by the weld thermal cycles, and thus the strength of the welded joint decrease substantially accompanied with the fracture in the HAZ. On the other hand, not only the softening but the fine microstructure can preserve the high toughness of TMCP steel in the HAZ.

In this study, two kinds of life prediction method for hot forming die are developed . One is empirical method requiring some experiment that evaluate thermal softening of die material accoring to operating conditions. The other is analyticl method that calcuate wear quantity of die occuring during the forming process. Wear is a predominant factor as well as plastic deformation and heat checking . And, these methods are applied to prodict tool life real die producting part for automobile. Thus , the applicability and the accuracy of the presented methods are investigated. Using the verified life prediction method above , optimal blocker die design minimizing the finisher die is done.

This paper describes about the estimation method of die lift by wear and plastic deformation in hot forging process. The thermal load and the thermal softening are happened by the high temperature in hot forging process. Tool lift decreases considerably due to the softening of the surface layer of a tool caused by high thermal load and long contact time between tool and billet. Also, tool life is to a large extent limited by wear, heat crack and plastic deformation in hot forging process. Above all, the main factors which affects die accuracy and tool lift are wear and the plastic deformation of a die. The new developed technique for predicting tool life applied to estimate the production quantity for a spindle component and these techniques assist to improve the tool life in hot forging process.

In this study, a finite element analysis for high-speed blanking of mild steel is performed. A thermomechanically coupled simulation model of a blanking process was developed using ABAQUS/Explicit. Through a simulation of the high-speed blanking process of mild steel, the influence of the punch speed, tool edge radius, and work material thickness on the development of the plastic heat and punch load were studied. The results of the study revealed that a higher punch speed caused thermal softening of the work material and decreased the punch load. Decreasing tool edge radius could help reduce the punch load. In addition, the results of the study revealed that the thermal softening effect was more dominant in the blanking of a mild steel sheet with a greater thickness as compared to that in the blanking of a mild steel sheet with a lower thickness.
Effect of high temperature soaking in salt solution and short time microwave heat treatment on quality of Korean pickled cucumbers during fermentation was investigated. The Korean pickled cucumbers were fermented at $25^{\circ}C$ for 10 days in 10% salt solution. The physicochemical properties measured were pH, the total acidity, hardness and the sensory properties of odor, taste and texture were also evaluated. The result showed that the effect of soaking cucumber in $80-90^{\circ}C$ hot salt solution significantly reduced the fermentation rate and softening rate of texture while a rather rapid fermentation was found for those soaked in $60-70^{\circ}C$. The effect of microwave treatment inhenced fermentation a little for short treatment but it was significantly reduced softening rate of texture by 3 minutes heating. The sensory evaluation of Korean pickled cucumber was found that heat treatments with hot solution and microwave heating had a possitive effect for reduction of softening of cucumber tissue, however odor and taste were not significantly affected.
The mechanical and thermal load, and thermal softening occuring by the rush temperature of die, in warm and hot forging, cause wear, heat cracking and plastic deformation, etc. This paper describes the effects of solid lubricants and surface treatments for warm forging die. Because cooling effect and low friction are essential to the long life of dies, optimal surface treatments and lubricants are very important to hot and warm forging process. The main factors affecting die hardness and heat transfer, are surface treatments and lubricants, which are related to heat transfer coefficient, etc. To verify the effects, experiments are performed for heat transfer coefficient in various conditions - different initial billet temperatures and different loads. Carbonitriding and ionitriding are used as surface treatments, and oil-base and water-base graphite lubricants are used. The effects of lubricant and surface treatment for warm and hot forging die life are explained by their thermal characteristics, and the new developed technique in this study for predicting tool life can give more feasible means to improve the tool life in hot forging process.

Rubber materials are widely used for anti-vibration in various industries such as railways, automobile, and aviation. However, various factors hinder the accurate prediction of mechanical properties and lifetime of these materials. Particularly, a stress softening phenomenon Mullins effect greatly affects the accuracy of test results by reducing the initial peak stress. Although the Mullins effect has been studied previously, research on its temperature dependence is lacking. In this study, we performed experiments to estimate the temperature dependence of the Mullins effect. Dumbbell specimens made of natural rubber (NR65) was mounted on a stress softening tester and placed in a heat chamber, where they were tested at temperature of 25, 50, and $80^{\circ}C$. Further, five test sets, each consisting of 10 loading/unloading cycles were sequentially performed at predetermined time intervals. Based on the test results, we assessed the effect of temperature and time interval on stress softening and recovery.
