A series of computational simulations have been carried out for non-reacting and reacting flows in a supersonic combustor configuration with and without a cavity. Transverse injection of hydrogen, a simplest form of fuel supply, is considered in the present study with the injection pressure of 0.5 and 1.0 ㎫. The corresponding equivalence ratios are 0.17 and 0.33. The work features detailed resolution of the flow and flame dynamics in the combustor, which was not typically available in most of the previous studies. In particular, oscillatory flow characteristics are captured at a scale sufficient to identify the underlying physical mechanisms. Much of the flow unsteadiness is related not only to the cavity, but also to the intrinsic unsteadiness in the flowfield. The interactions between the unsteady flow and flame evolution may cause a large excursion of flow oscillation. The role of the cavity, injection pressure, and amount of heat addition are examined systematically.

In this paper, an integrated system is proposed which can evaluate both the early-age properties and durability performance of concrete structures. This integrated system starts with a hydration model which considers both Portland cement hydration and chemical reactions of supplementary cementing materials (SCM). Based on the degree of hydration of cement and mineral admixtures, the amount of reaction products, the early age heat evolution, chemically bound water, porosity, the early age short-term mechanical behaviors, shrinkage and early-age creep are evaluated as a function of curing age and curing conditions. Furthermore, the durability aspect, such as carbonation of blended concrete and chloride attack, are evaluated considering both the material properties and surrounding environments. The prediction results are verified through experimental results.
A laser beam welding and an electric arc welding were combined, and the positive points of each welding method are drawn such as high speed, low thermal load, deep penetration, and high productivity. The fiber laser-MIG conjugated welding. namely the hybrid welding has been studied mainly for the automation industry of a pipeline welding. In this study, the MIG welding was combined with a fiber laser welding to make up the hybrid welding. The weld shapes, microstructures and mechanical properties for weld zones after the hybrid welding or only fiber laser welding were investigated on the 700 MPa grade Ultra Fine Grained(UFG) high strength steel. The amount of acicular ferrite in weld metals and HAZ(heat affected zone) was observed larger after hybrid welding compared with after only laser welding. The Vickers hardness of the top area of the fusion zone after fiber laser welding was higher compared with after hybrid welding.
A Ni/Ag/Stainless steel 310S(SS310S) multi-layer sheet has been fabricated by a combination of vacuum brazing, cold rolling and texture annealing processes. After heat-treating the thin Ni/Ag/SS310S multi-layer sheet at $900^{\circ}C$ for 2h, development of (100)<001>cube texture on Ni surface was revealed by (111) pole figure. Quantitative chemical analysis was made by EPMA for the cross-section of the Ni/Ag/SS310S multi-layer sheet. EPMA results showed that Ag diffusion into the Ni layer, which may suppress the cube texture development, was negligible. A small amount of Cr atoms were detected in the Ni layer. It showed that Ag can be used as a chemical barrier of alloying element atoms in Ni layer for the Ni/Ag/SS310S multi-layer sheet and a strong cube texture was developed for the Ni layer in the Ni/Ag/SS310S multi-layer sheet.

The Yeongnam Massif, one of Precambrian basements in Korean Peninsula, is characterized by widespread occurrence of low-pressure/high-temperature (LP/HT) schists and gneisses accompanying extensive anatexis and granitic magmatism. Metapelitic mineral assemblages define three progressive metamorphic zones pertinent to low-pressure facies series: cordierite, sillimanite and garnet zones with increasing temperature. Metamorphic grade ranges from lower amphibolite to lower granulite facies and metamorphic conditions reach ca. 750-800 C and 4-6 kbar in migmatitic gneisses. Migmatitic gneisses are prominent in the sillimanite and garnet zones. Textural and petrogenetic relationshipsin leucosome suggest that migmatitic gneiss is the product of anatexis of metasedimentary rocks. The migmatite formation during the prograde metamorphism is governed initially by fluid-present melting and subsequently by biotite-dehydration melting. The large amount of leucosomes in the sillimaniteand garnet zones can be explained by the fluid-present molting possibly triggered by an external supply of aqueous fluid. Field and geochronologic relationships between leucogranites and migmatitic gneisses further suggest that leucogranite has providedfluid and heat required for widespread migmatization.
The microstructures and mechanical properties of Dual Phase (DP), Transformation-Induced Plasticity (TRIP), and Quenching & Partitioning (Q&P) steels were investigated in order to define the strengthening mechanism of 0.2 C steel. An intercritical annealing between Ac1 and Ac3 was conducted to produce DP and TRIP steel, followed by quenching the DP and TRIP steel being quenched at to room temperature and by the TRIP steel being austemperingaustempered-air cooling cooled the steel toat room temperature, respectively. The Q&P steel was produced from full austenization, followed by quenching to the temperature between $M_s$ and $M_f$, and then enriching the carbon to stabilize the austenite throughout the heat treatment. For the DP and TRIP steels, as the intercritical annealing temperature increased, the tensile strength increased and the elongation decreased. The strength variation was due to the amount of hard phases, i.e., martensite and bainite, respectively in the DP and TRIP steels. It was also found that the elongation also decreased with the amount of soft ferrite in the DP and TRIP steels and with the amount of the that was retained in the austenite phasein the TRIP steel, respectively for the DP and TRIP steels. For the Q&P steel, as the partitioning time increased, the elongation and the tensile strength increased slightly. This was due to the stabilized austenite that was enriched with carbon, even when the amount of retained austenite decreased as the partitioning time increased from 30 seconds to 100 seconds.

Anodized tubular $TiO_2$ electrodes (ATTEs) with three noticeably different lengths are prepared to determine their optimum length for the photo-driven activity in the reaction of Cr(VI) reduction and hydrogen evolution. The ATTEs with ethylene glycol have longer $TiO_2$ tubes (7-15.6 ${\mu}m$) than those with hydrfluoric acid (0.6-0.8 ${\mu}m$). These samples, which differ only in the length of the tubes, with a wall thickness of ca. 20 nm, consist mainly of an anatase crystalline phase after heat treatment at $650^{\circ}C$, since the anatase crystallites at the tube walls do not undergo transformation into rutile phase, due to the constraints imposed by the wall thickness. Among them, the medium size (ca. 8 ${\mu}m$) tubes provide the optimum conditions, irrespective of the light intensity, which is explained in terms of the correlation between the amount of photons and the adsorbed electron acceptors and their location. Photocatalytic Cr(VI) reduction leads to ca. 60% reduction of Cr(VI) even under 1 sun irradiation with the medium-sized anodized $TiO_2$ tubes, but only ca. 20% with the short- and long-sized tubes. For hydrogen evolution, tubes longer than 8 ${\mu}m$ do not exhibit better performance with any light intensity.
Two kinds of clinker liquid melts, one containing 2.0% of $K_2O$ and the other without $K_2O$, were prepared with the similar composition as those developed during the firing of portland cement clinker. One portion of melt was quenched and found to consist of glass together with traces of proto-$C_3A$, and the other portion was allowed to cool spontaneously to crystallize $C_3A$ and calciumferrite well. The product obtained by crystallization of the melt without $K_2O$showed cubic $C_3A$, while orthorhombic $C_3A$ was formed from the crystallized product containing $K_2O$. Studies on the hydration behavior of the samples made from the melts with 30% of gypsum were carried out for 24 hours by observation at regular intervals ettringite, monosulphate hydrates and gypsum which were formed or consumed during hydration. The samples without $K_2O$ in the melts were hydrated wth addition of proper amount of $K_2SO_4$ in the water for hydration. Hydration behavior of glassified $C_3A$ showed that it has low reactivity relative to crystallized $C_3A$, and also hydration reactivity of orthorhombic $C_3A$ was much lower than that of cubic $C_3A$ in 60 minutes. Potassium sulphate in the solution reduced the hydration reactivity of $C_3A$ . Evolution peaks of hydration heat examined by twin-type conduction micro-calorimeter showed that glassified $C_3A$ without $K_2O$ had secondary peak after 9 hours and $C_3A$ containing $K_2O$ after 12 hours. When crystallized $C_3A$ was hydrated, initial peaks of hydration heat were considerably high and there was no secondary peak for cubic $C_3A$ but the secondary peak of orthorhombic $C_3A$ appeared after 4 hours.

The microstructural features and relative room temperature mechanical properties were investigated in various compositions of Mg-xAl-yZn alloys by thxiomolding process. The microstructure was composed of ${\alpha}$-Mg particles and mixture of ${\alpha}$-Mg and ${\beta}-Mg_{17}Al_{12}$ eutectic phase. The amount of ${\beta}-Mg_{17}Al_{12}$ eutectic phase in mixture was increased with increasing Al and Zn contents without grain refinement. After adding Ti content, however, the morphology of ${\beta}-Mg_{17}Al_{12}$ eutectic phase transformed from net-like to discontinuous shape and the average grain size reduced. To determine the relationship between microstructural features and their mechanical properties, a tensile test was performed at room temperature. As a result, it was found that the mechanical properties were improved in all of Ti contained alloys due to increased elongation and the mechanisms are discussed in terms of microstructural evolution.

Through the early 1900's, the evolution of the surface condenser was closely tied to the development of steam engine and the turbine. As the chemical and petroleum industries evolved in the 1900's, the use of surface condensers in many different processes. Today, industry uses condensers in many shapes and sizes. The actual condensation process occurs on the outside surface of tubes. The nature of this surface geometry affects the condenser's heat transfer performance. The first condensers were built with plain tubes. As tube manufacturing techniques advanced, manufacturers started making tubes with integral fins. In the 1940's, fin densities were limited to about 600 to 700 fins per meter(fpm) because of manufacturing procedure. Today new manufacturing techniques allow production of tubes with fin densities ranging from 750 to 1600 fpm. The integral-fin tubes investigated in this paper are nominally 19 mm diameter. Eight tubes have been used with trapezodially shaped integral-fins having fin density from 748 to 1654 fpm and 10, 30 grooves. For comparison, tests are made using a plain tube having the same inside diameter and an outside diameter equal to that at the root of the fins for the finned tubes. Betty and Katz's theoretical modelis is used to predict the R-11 condensation coefficient on horizontal integral-fin tubes having 748, 1024 and 1299 fpm. Experiments are carried out using R-11 as working fluid. The refrigerant condensates at a saturation state of $30^{\circ}C$ on the outside tube surface cooled by coolant. The amount of noncondensable gases present in the test loop is reduced to a negligible value by repeated purging. For a given heat input to the boiler and given cooling water flow rate, all test data are taken at steady state. The observed heat transfer enhancement for the finned and grooved tubes significantly exceeded that to be expected on grounds of increased area. For the eight fin tubes and one plain tube tested, the best performance has been obtained with a tube having a fin density of 1299 fpm, and a fin bight of 1.2mm and 30 grooves.
