Angular contact ball bearings are mainly used in the spindle, which requires high speed and stiffness. The heat generation is studied by experiments and simulations using a pair of angular contact ball bearings. The temperature variation of inner and outer races and the temperature increment distribution are measured by using thermocouples for the rotational speed, preload, viscosity of lubricant. The measured values from experiments are used to estimate the heat conduction rate. The method of oil-air lubrication is used for the experiment. The amount of conduction heat transfer to the test spindle and the convection heat transfer coefficients long the spindle are computed by using inverse method with temperature increment distribution. Total heat generation rate is estimated with the heat partition rate which is calculated from temperatures of inner and outer races. In addition, the empirical factor of oil-air lubrication method for Palmgren's heat generation model is suggested. The empirical friction coefficients, which are obtained from the experiments, depend on the preload condition, and can give us more accurate estimation of the heat generation in ball bearings.
In the present study, the heat transfer performance on the heat recovery ventilator with rotary disk were experimentally investigated. The temperature of entrance and exit of the heat recovery ventilator, air flow distribution of high temperature air and low temperature air, heat flux and the overall heat transfer coefficients are estimated from the experimental results. As the number of revolution of rotary disk, the air flow distribution increase, heat flux and overall heat transfer coefficients increase.
The objective of this paper is to investigate the statistical properties of Vickers hardness (HV) for friction welded parts in a Ni-based super alloy (Alloy718). In the case of post weld heat treatment (PWHT) parts, hardness tests were repeated for three different applied loads, 100, 200, and 300 g, with a duration time of 10 seconds. The arithmetic means of the Vickers hardness in heat affected zone (HAZ) materials were smaller than those of the base metal (BM) in all of the applied loads. The coefficient of variation (COV) for the BM and HAZ decreased by increasing the applied load. The probability distribution of the Vickers hardness followed the Weibull distribution well. The distribution of the Vickers hardness was not found to be symmetric. The shape parameter and scale parameter increased by increasing the applied load at both the BM and HAZ.
The purpose of this study is to minimize the heat transfer surface area and cold fluid exit temperature of heat exchanger which applied to the refrigeration and air-conditioning system by utilizing the thermoelectric principle. Both uniform and non-uniform current distribution methods which applied to the analysis of the TE elements that incorporates heat exchanger were investigated. The non-uniform current distribution method had the better coefficient of performance and had the lower cold fluid exit temperature of the TE cooling system than the uniform current distribution method. It was found that if a TE cooling system incorporates a heat exchanger, a non-uniform current distribution should guarantee to the lowest cold fluid exit temperature. Also, the hybrid method (combination of the uniform and non-uniform current distribution method) is investigated to achieve the best results by combining the uniform and non-uniform current distributions. The results show that it can lower the cold fluid exit temperature and reduce the heat transfer surface area for the parallel flow arrangement if we apply the constant current in some entry region and the non-uniform increasing current in the direction of the cold fluid flow afterwards.
The fire took place in the synthetic heat transfer fluid boiler used in production process of medium density fiberboard. This study investigated pressure distribution of the first, second and third passes and the temperature in the fire burner. The boiler's internal fluid is unsteady due to the out of order inverter. As the operation continues, the flame's flow and speed are unsteady. The synthetic heat transfer fluid leak spouted about 120kg/min in the form of vapor in the early period of the fire. The flame extended to the second and third passes. The highest temperature of the second and third pass is $1059^{\circ}C$ and $1007^{\circ}C$, respectively. The synthetic heat transfer fluid spouted through the cracked part of the fire box in the first pass and accumulated on the turn table. Therefore, it is expected that the temperature of the interior of the fire box is above $1200^{\circ}C$. The temperature of the burner rises to a maximum level several times in a short period. On account of that, several explosions occur in the fire burner. Pressure distribution at steady state in combustion furnace is 2~5mAq and pressure distribution at inverter under fault condition in combustion furnace is 10~-53mAq. The decrement of coil thickness measurement for synthetic heat transfer fluid boiler is 0~5mm.
Concentration characteristics of the KIER solar furnace are analyzed with a heat flux measurement technique. Total heat capacity of 40kW was confirmed within 1.04% average error, and the normalized maximum heat flux of 3,452 $kW/m^2$ was proved. Non-Gaussian flux distribution in the vertical direction implies that reflectors should not be random rather inclined downwards. Moreover, we characterized flux distribution variations with furnace blind opening ratio, distance from the focal plane, and misalignment of the measurement system. Based on the results, the heat flux distribution can be simply estimated once reflectivity and direct normal insolation values are known. This study will be helpful to the design and the performance evaluation of receivers or chemical reactors.
In this paper, temperature distribution of 24 MVA distribution cast-resin transformers is analyzed by using CFD. Usually heat generated in transformer causes many problems. To radiate the heat, conduction and convection are done through the duct between winding. Considering natural convection, fluid analysis is applied to the fluid region surrounding the transformer. As a result of the analysis, hot spot temperature point is predicted at the low-voltage winding. Through this paper, heat distribution and cooling characteristics property can be predicted by analyzing transformer heating characteristic required when designing.
Nonlinear temperature distribution induced by the hydration heat generates thermal stress in mass concrete. At early ages, such thermal stress may induce thermal cracks in the structure which can affect on the durability and safety of the structure. Up to now, a lot of works have focused on the prediction of temperature distribution and thermal stress in the structure. In most of such works, however, the inside of structure was considered as adiabatic state to predict temperature distribution and the thermal stress. And due to the lacks of appropriate analysis models after crack, there was little research on the crack occurrence. This paper deals with the prediction of the temperature distribution in the structure using the rate of hydration heat generation and also estimates the behavior of structure before and after cracking due to hydration heat using crack band model.

A method of calculation of temperature distribution during welding was studied and compared with the existing formulas and experimental results. In contrast to the existing formulas which are founded on the suppositions that the heat source is a point and that the dimensions of welded pieces are infinite, we tried to make the distribution of calorific density of heat source approach reality more closely, so we considered it as a normal distribution of Gauss, and we presented the formulas for calculation of temperature during welding. We also used the principle of superposition for the temperature calculations of finite welded pieces. We compared the formulas presented in this paper with the existing formulas by calculations for the welding of various materials, and considerable differences around the heat source were convinced. The thermal cycles of various points were traced through the welding experiments for the mild steel, and they were compared with the results of calculations.
In this study, frosting experiment was conducted to investigate the characteristics of frost formed on heat exchanger fins of non-uniform temperature distribution. Temperature distribution and frost characteristics of a 2-D fin surface were investigated in the airflow direction and the direction perpendicular to airflow. Temperature gradient was very small in the airflow direction, while it was large in the direction perpendicular to airflow due to fin heat conduction. The variations of the frost thickness gradient and the frost density gradient in the direction perpendicular to airflow were significant. On the other hand, the temperature gradient on frost surface in the direction perpendicular to airflow was significant at the early stage of frosting, while it decreased gradually as time elapsed.
