  • It is a descriptive study for the relationship between appearance management behaviors and mental health of some female college students. We analyzes 433 self-administered questionnaires from March to June 2017 for female students who enrolled in three-year colleges in Seoul and Gyeonggi province, South Korea. The conclusion is as follows. We used IBM SPSS Statistics 22.0(SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA) for the analysis by person's characteristics, t-test and one way ANOVA, multiple regression analyses. The second-year grade shows higher points than the first-year grade in appearance management behaviors and mental health level(p<0.001, p<0.05). In addition, when students has the higher level of the household as the humanities students, they have higher level of mental health level(p<0.001). The most influential factors affecting the mental health level of female college students are domestic economic level and cosmetic management behavioral factors. The level of mental health was higher in the middle and upper group of the domestic economic level. When they do more cosmetic management behavior, they have lower the mental health level. In conclusion, it is deemed necessary for students to attend intensive and sufficient counseling with an academic advisor. The continuous attention through school counseling management services depending on grade, domestic economy level, and cosmetic management behavior is necessary in order to enhance the level of mental health for female students. In addition to that, the college needs to develop individual customized psychology counseling and educational programs through U-mental healthcare service in order to lessen the great pressure of sensitive information and provide mental consultation. The college needs to consider students' characteristics and needs from the results of this study. It is considered that a smart mental healthcare program will be needed to identify mental health of the individual through the systematic approach.

The convenience sample consisted of 473 students attending a college located at Chonnam province. Data were collected by a structured questionnaire which included the PRO85-partⅡ Social Support Scale, revised UCLA Loneliness Scale, Alcohol frequency, Perceived Health Status Scale from June 10 to 25, 2001. And data were analyzed by SPSS/PC+program including descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation Coefficients. The results are summarized as follows; 1. The mean scores of social support, loneliness and perceived health status were 3.01($SD={\pm}0.31$), 2.08($SD={\pm}0.34$), 1.64($SD={\pm}0.65$) respectively. 2. Students in use of alcohol mostly reported that they had started a drinking in the period of high school(35.7%), motivated with friendship(32.6%) and drank with their friends(56.9%) in drinking frequency of 2-3times per a month(49.6%). 3. Methods: To examine the association with physical activity and health promotion practices, health survey was conducted with 3,806 students who were first-year students in a university by self-reported questionnaire from February 26 to March 10, 2015. Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the difference of health promotion behaviors by physical activities. Results: 51.4% of the first-year student was regular exercisers who had practiced on regular walking exercise or regular strength exercise or regular aerobic exercise for a week. 87.8% of students exercised one or more times within the last one week. On the other hand, 12.2% of them did not exercise. In multiple logistic regression models, it remained significantly the difference of regular exercise by gender, subjective health status, sleeping time per one day, BMI, drinking behavior, and eating habit (p<0.05, p<0.01, p<0.001). Also it remained significantly the difference by physical activity type, such as walking, strengthen, and aerobic exercise (p<0.05, p<0.01, p<0.001). Conclusion: To help the achievement of academic goal, it should build physical activity policies and comprehensive health promotion programs to reduce health risk factors of university students. Comprehensive university health services and customized program for university students could help to make the best of their health. • The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing health promoting behavior of college students to develop health promoting interventions of young adults. The subjects of this study were 176 women college students, living in a small city in Korea. The data were collected by interviews and a self-report questionnaire, during the period from September, 1999 to December, 1999. The instruments for this study were the PRQ-II by Weinert(1988), the scale of Locus of Control by Wallstone et al.(1978), the scale of self efficacy by Sherer & Maddux(1982), 10 points visual analogue scale for perceived health status and the importance of health, the health promoting behavior scale by Walker et al.(1987), and the scales developed by the authors for the perceived benefits of health promoting behavior, and perceived barriers to health promoting behavior. Cronbach 's alpha of these scales were .68 ~.89. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. The results of this study were as follows: 1. Among cognitive perceptual factors of the Health Promotion Model by Pender(1987), the scores of the importance of health, the perceived internal control of health, self efficacy, the perceived health status, and the perceived benefits had a significantly positive correlation with the scores of the health promoting behavior of college students. In addition, the scores of the perceived barriers had a significantly negative correlation with the scores of the health promoting behavior of college students. 2. Among modifying factors of the Health Promotion Model by Pender(1987), the extent of religious activities of college students and the scores of social support had a significantly positive correlation with the scores of health promoting behavior of college students. 3. Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that the most powerful predictor of health promoting behavior was self-efficacy. A combination of self-efficacy, the perceived benefits, the perceived barriers, the perceived health status, and the importance of health accounted for 45.1% of the variance in health promoting behavior in college students From the results of this study, we concluded that the Health Promotion Model by Pender can be used to explain health promoting behavior of college students. In addition, we suggested that the results of this study be considered in developing health promoting programs of young adults.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of oral health education experience on needs for oral health education in children and adolescents in elementary and secondary schools. A self-administered survey was conducted on the students in elementary, middle and high schools located in the city of Mokpo, South Jeolla Province, from October 1 to 31, 2018. The data that were collected from 327 students were analyzed by SPSS 21.0. Statistical data on frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation were obtained, and t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis and logistic regression analysis were carried out. The findings of the study were as follows: First, the subjects got 2.25 on a three-point scale in self-rated oral health status. This score was above average, which indicated that the students thought they were in good oral health. As for problems with oral health, dental caries was given the highest score of 2.48 on a five-point scale, followed by oral malodor with 2.35. Second, the students who experienced oral health education accounted for 69.1 percent, and the students who felt the need for this education represented 82.6 percent. As for educational content desired, the biggest group of 57.8 percent hoped to learn about how to prevent and manage dental caries, and the second largest group of 17 percent wanted to learn about how to take care of oral health during orthodontic treatment. Third, as a result of investigating the state of oral health education by the grade of school, the elementary school students had more oral health education experience than the middle and high school students, and the middle school students placed the most importance on the necessity of oral health education. The differences were statistically significant. Fourth, as a result of analyzing the correlation between oral health education experience and the necessity of oral health education, the students who had more oral health education experience asked more for this education, which implies that there was a statistically significant positive correlation. The findings of the study ascertained that oral health education should be provided for students in childhood and adolescence to boost the level of their oral health knowledge and change their oral health attitude in a positive manner. If oral health practice programs that connect schools, local communities and families with one another are developed to guide the oral health behaviors of teenagers in the right direction, it will make a contribution to the promotion of oral health.
