The purpose of this study was to examine the actual dental hygiene status of workers in cement industry in an effort to serve as a basis for enhancing their dental hygiene. The subjects in this study were 420 laborers from the cities of Curi, Donghae and Samcheok who handled cement. As a result of conducting a survey, the following findings were given : l. The workers investigated found their working environment satisfactory, getting a mean score of 323. They also expressed a high job satisfaction with a mean score of 333. 2. They didn't have a big interest in oral health. By age group, those who were aged between 36 and 40, or who cared less about health management, showed a higher interest in oral health. Besides, the laborers who kept smoking for a longer period, or who drunk more, expressed greater interest. 3. The toothbrushing method was considered most important for periodontal health, by 45.0% of the workers, and the next most crucial one was regular dental examination, followed by refraining from smoking and staying away from sweet food in the order named. 4. Concerning daily mean toothbrushing frequency, 455% brushed their teeth three times a day on the average. More than half them didn't pay enough attention to toothbrushing. 5. Regarding scaling, the large number of the workers, 42.4%, had no experience to get their teeth scaled, 37.6%, the greatest percentage, didn't have their teeth scaled because it seemed to make their teeth painful or cold. 6. As fororal health education experience, 67.6%, the great number of them, had no experience to receive dental health education. The above-mentioned findings suggest that the cement-related workers generally neglected dental health management. They should be encouraged to correct their wrong oral health knowledge or habit to make their oral cavity more healthy. To make it happen, it's required to provide oral health education and promote organized dental health projects.
Stroke is the second cause of death worldwide, although the survival period is increasing after the occurrence of stroke, severe physical disability is caused with aftereffect. Oral inflammation is not limited to the oral cavity, it can cause malignant changes in other tissues and organs. In previous studies, we confirmed the relationship between tooth loss and stroke due to periodontal inflammation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between oral health and stroke such as oral hygiene behavior, tooth loss and periodontal disease among Korean adults over 40 years of age. This study was analyzed using the 6th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) data. A total of 3,389 adults over 40 years of age were analyzed as final subjects. Socioeconomic statuses and oral health status was analyzed using a complex sample analysis technique. Logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship of oral health and stroke, and 95% confidence intervals were computed using SPSS. When the prevalence of stroke according to oral hygiene behavior was checked, the prevalence of strokes was lower in subjects who had a lot of brushings per day and subjects who used oral hygiene products (p<0.05). The risk of stroke was 2.17 times (95% confidence interval, 1.43~3.28) higher in the group with less than 19 remaining teeth, but it was not statistically significant as a result of adjusting for age and sex, income level, education level, drinking and smoking (p>0.05). Loss of teeth was found to be associated with the risk factor of stroke. Therefore, loss of teeth due to periodontal disease is an additional issue that should be considered as a risk factor for stroke.

Results : Oral health education program had a significant influence on the level of oral health perception. The oral health education program enhanced the knowledge level of marriage immigrant women. Oral Hygiene Index (OHI-S) also showed a significant difference and suggested that the oral health education program increased the level of knowledge related to oral care. Conclusions : It is necessary to investigate motivation factors and influential factors changing the oral health behaviors, knowledge and attitude related to oral health. Further study will be necessary to analyze the characteristics by countries, social class and age.
Objectives: This study confirms the current status of visiting oral health-care services for the elderly to draw policy implications for revitalization of the visiting oral health care services in the future. Methods: First, a survey was conducted on health centers about the current status of the elderly visiting oral health-care service and how to revitalize it. Next, the number of oral hygiene services provided to the elderly was checked in the long-term care insurance system. Results: Oral health education (100%) was the most common practice in visiting oral health-care service for the elderly, and the most difficult thing in providing services was the lack of dental hygienists (38.9%). The status of oral health-care services in the long-term care insurance system for elderly revealed that the total number of service claims has been confirmed to be zero since the introduction of the system. Conclusions: Despite the existence of a system that provides elderly visiting oral healthcare services, to revitalize it, the law must be amended to secure a dental hygienist as the main agent of the activity and to further take responsibility for autonomous authority and performance.
Background: This study was aimed at surveying the health science students' interest, demand, and awareness of virtual reality (VR) devices for learning to accumulate data necessary to develop and implement a curriculum with VR devices. Methods: We investigated the perception of health science students regarding VR device application and utilization. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS 25.0 (IBM SPSS Statistics). Frequency and descriptive analyses were performed for the perception level of VR device use for university education. An independent twosamples t-test was performed to statistically analyze the perception level according to the VR device experience. A p-value < 0.05 was set to indicate statistical significance. Results: To the question "Do you wish to use VR devices for educational purposes?," 73% of the participants answered "yes." To the question "Do you think VR is necessary for the course curriculum?," over 65% answered "yes." Conclusion: In this study, health science students reported a great need for VR devices for education. VR-based classroom curriculum is expected to improve students' concentration, interest, and motivation.
Objectives: This study aims to prove that stress directly or indirectly affects the jaw joint disorders and provide basic data for developing oral health promotion program. Methods: The study was conducted by distributing a questionnaire survey to more than 350 people from December 30, 2016 to January 7, 2017. Among them, 336 copies were collected and 314 copies were utilized eventually, except Section 314, for the final analysis. Regression analysis was performed to investigate the factors affecting temporomandibular joint disorders. Results: As a result, academic achievement and stress were found to affect the temporomandibular joint disorders. The higher the level of education and stress, the higher the subjective symptoms of jaw joint disorder. Conclusions: Because stress affects temporomandibular joint disorders, it is necessary to find out the cause of stress not only for professional treatment but also for solution of temporomandibular disorder. Thus, stress level must be conisdred as influential factors in developing a jaw joint disease prevention program.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to find out differences in oral health status, defined as their oral health and oral health quality of life among the elderly depending on their income and education levels. Methods: This study used 922 senior citizens over 65 from the data (2015) of the 6th National Health and Nutrition Survey (NHNS). The regression analysis was adopted to identify factors affecting their oral health status which has effect on their oral health quality of life. The statistical package SPSS 21.0 was employed. Frequency analysis, chi-squared analysis and regression analysis were used, and the significance level or Cronbach's alpha value was 0.05. Results: Depending on income levels, there were differences in their oral health status as to whether they use oral hygiene products, take dental examinations, join private health-insurances, and delay dental treatments or not. And educational levels also made significant differences in their oral health status as to whether they smoke, drink alcohol, how many times they brush teeth a day, whether they use oral hygiene products, take dental treatments, and join private health-insurances.
