  • The purpose of this study is to find out why Whitney Houston gave healing to people around the world based on Shin Jae-hyo's gwangdaeron (clown theory). In Korean music, gwangdae (廣大, the title of clown) is a nickname dedicated to outstanding artists. Not only is it a clown that cannot be a person, but it does not give a clown a nickname for doing art activities. This is why Shin Jae-hyo, a pansori (Pansori epic chant) theorist and critic in the late 19th century of the Joseon Dynasty, presented the virtues of outstanding artists. There are four outstanding clown conditions claimed by Shin Jae-hyo: appearance (人物), words (辭說), perfect vocal music (得音) and wonderful movements (neoreumsae). These conditions show how difficult it is to be a gwangdae (a prominent artist), or an accomplished artist. We think Whitney Houston is a famous singer who fits these conditions. In her heyday, she was optimized for Shin Jae-hyo's clown theory, while her post-2007 moves are regrettable. However, it is clear that he is a singer who fits well with the title of America's greatest clown. In conclusion, I felt that the best emotion through music was the best healing, and that the best singer was becoming the best healer.

  • The aim of this article is to argue that BanLyeo music (companion music) is much better than medicine. A companion who shares thoughts or actions, or a metaphorical description of an object that is always close or carried. Isn't the music that we share in our daily lives a BanLyeo music (companion music)? Music stays with us forever as long as we choose. Therefore, it is music that can go with us until the end, so I think we should call it BanLyeo music (companion music). Music can be with us whenever and wherever we want, soothing sadness and pain and cheering us up. Here is a person who is living a second life happily because of BanLyeo music. Beyond the passive listening to music, direct and active music performance is a great power to save one person. As a more effective healing agent than medicine, BanLyeo music is a great power to stay together for the rest of your life and cheer you up. So, I think music is much better than medicine.

  • The purpose of this article is to argue that Arirang, Korean traditional music, could be used for healing purposes for Koreans. Music may be a medicine for curing both the body and mind. That is the soul of folksong. Arirang is a representative folksong in Korea. Koreans thought that listening to Korean traditional songs and singing them have healing powers because it makes people happier. When Koreans listen to Arirang, slowly as if they are mass hypnotized, Koreans calmed down because they think of mother's bosom while listening to Arirang. Also, Koreans find comfort in listening and singing to Arirang. The song's tune is catchy and its lyrics are moving. The song of Arirang was sung from long ago by Koreans. Therefore, it will continue forever as long as Koreans exist.

  • The theme of this study is holistic healing environment of children's library and it was researched on the basis of anthroposophy theory of Rudolf Steiner. According to Steiner's theory, human being consists of body, spirit, and soul. Especially, children are sensitive ones, and through synthetic function of 12 kinds of senses, they can be holistically healed (healing of body, spirit, and soul). As the sense independently functions or it is a element that cannot be described, it needs spatial plan to support synthetic function of it. We classified the healing space's meaning of children library by motion (including art and music), reading, & landscape healing activities and analyzed spatial characteristic to support each activity.

  • The aims of this article is to argue that the effect of catharsis through satire and humor in Korean music, Saseolnanongga. This song is a cheerful song of four beats and the representative rap music of Korean traditional music. This song is a folk song that reveals satire and humor such as curse to the person who left me and compassion and self-absorption. The lyrics harmonize with cheerful rhythm and create laughter and the lyrics of the song itself alone cause music therapy. The contents of the lyrics of the song are already refreshing. It means that you will be able to satisfy your surrogacy through the explicit lyrics. In this way, author thinks emotional expression through singing lyrics is an alternative solution. There has been a cathartic element in many twentieth-century approaches to psychological healing. The author thinks developmental criticism leads society to health, and satirical criticism reflects and heals individuals through catharsis.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine Ssukdaemeori of Chunhyangga may have effect on depression for music therapy. Ssukdaemeori of Chunhyangga, one of the five surviving stories of pansori (a long epic song), is a touching, sad song in Han Ak (Korean music, 韓樂). In this paper, the author reports on the very sad song, Ssukdaemeori. While listening to the song, Koreans feel the same amount of despair when Ssudaemeori's heroine, Chunhyang, cries out in hopelessness and grief. The author argues that Koreans get to see the saddest parts of themselves reflected back at them in the sorrowful sight of the heroine. It is also believed that Ssukdaemeori has contributed to the healing of Koreans' indignation and pain. For example, depression is currently a social problem. However, listening to sorrowful music like Ssukdaemeori can have a good effect on people feeling sad and depressed.
