  • In this paper, we estimated the effect of the siliceous filler's particle size on the performance of Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC). Filler's particle diameters considered in this paper were about 2, 4, 8, 14, $26{\mu}m$ and the performance was evaluated by testing fluidity in fresh concrete, compressive strength, ultimate strain, elastic modulus and flexural strength in hardened concrete. We also carried out XRD and MIP tests to analyze the relationship between the mechanical properties and microstructure. Test results showed that the smaller filler's particle size improves flowability and strength properties. MIP results revealed that the smaller size of filler decreased the porosity and thus increased the strength of UHPC. From XRD analysis, we could find out there were little influence of filler's particle size on chemical reactivity in UHPC.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of fly-ash on strength development and durability of latex-modified concrete (LMC) and ordinary portland cement concrete (OPC). Main experimental variables were latex contents (0%, 10%, 15%) and fly-ash content (0, 10%, 20%, 30%). Air content and slump tests were performed to check the basic properties of fresh concretes, and compressive strength, flexural strength, rapid chloride ion permeability and chemical resistance were measured to analyze the basic properties of hardened concretes. The test results showed that air contents of LMC with fly ash decreased as fly-ash contents increased from 0% to 30%. Compressive and flexural strength developments of LMC with fly ash were quite similar to those of LMC without fly ash. However, the long-term flexural strength development of LMC with fly ash after 90 days were bigger than that of LMC without fly ash. Chloride ion permeability and chemical resistance decreased rapidly as the content of fly ash increased. Thus, fly ash could be used at LMC in order to reduce water permeability.

  • Laser surface hardening is an effective technique used to improve the tribological properties and also to increase the service life of automobile components such as camshafts, crankshatfs, lorry brake drums and gears. High power CO2 lasers and Nd:YAG lasers are employed for localized hardening of materials and hence are of potential application in the automobile industries. The heat is conducted rapidly into the bulk of the specimen causing self-quenching to occur and the formation of martensitic structure. In this investigation, the microstructure features occurring in Nd:YAG laser hardening SM45C steel are discussed with the use of optical microscopic and scanning electron microscopic analysis. Moreover, This paper describes the optimism of the processing parameters for maximum hardened depth of SM45C steel specimens of 3mm thickness by using CW Nd:YAG laser. Travel speed was varied from 0.6m/min to 1.0m/min. The maximum hardness and case depth fo SM45C steel are 780Hv and 0.4mm by laser hardening.

  • The synthetic fibers such as polypropylene(PP) and polyvilyl-alcohol(PVA) fiber are poised as a low cost alternative for reinforcement in structural applications. It has been reported that synthetic fiber in cement composites can control restrained tensile stresses and cracks and increase toughness, resistance to impact, corrosion, fatigue and durability. High performance fiber reinforced cementitious composite(HPFRCCs) shows ultra high ductile behavior in the hardened state, because of the fiber bridging properties. Therefore, a variety of experiments have being performed to access the performance of HPFRCCs recently. The research emphasis is on the flexural behavior of HPFRCCs made in synthetic fibers, and how this affects the composite property, and ultimately its strain-hardening performance. Three-point bending tests on HPFECCs are carried out. As the result of the bending tests, HPFRCCs showed high flexural strength and ductility. HPFRCCs made in PVA or Hybrid fiber were, also, superior to PP of singleness. On the other hand, effect of sand volume fraction on HPFRCCs made in PP was insignificant.

  • An emulsion of octadecamidoethylaminoethyl dodecate (which provides softness) and an emulsion silicone oil KF-96 (which provides lubricity) were separately synthesized. Then PP finishing softeners (SSA-7) was prepared by blending of the synthesized emulsions with beef tallow hardened oil (a softness improving agent). PP finishing treatment was carried out with the prepared SSA-7 and PP finishing resin by a one bath method, and several physical properties were tested. As a result, crease recovery, tear strength, softness, lubricity, and bending resistance were all good, indicating that the prepared SSA-7 is a good PP finishing softener.

  • SIMOX SOI is known to be one of the most useful technologies for fabrications of new generation ULSI devices. This paper describes the current status of SIMOX SOI technology for ULSI applications. The SIMOX wafer is vertically composed of buried oxide layer and silicon epitaxial layer on top of the silicon substrate. The buried oxide layer is used for the vertical isolation of devices The oxide layer is formed by high energy ion implantation of high dose oxygen into the silicon wafer, followed by high temperature annealing. SIMOX-based CMOS fabrication is transparent to the conventional IC processing steps without well formation. Furthermore, thin film CMOX/SIMOX can overcome the technological limitations which encountered in submicron bulk-based CMOS devices, i.e., soft-error rate, subthreshold slope, threshold voltage roll-off, and hot electron degradation can be improved. SIMOX-based bipolar devices are expected to have high density which comparable to the CMOX circuits. Radiation hardness properties of SIMOX SOI extend its application fields to space and military devices, since military ICs should be operational in radiation-hardened and harsh environments. The cost of SIMOX wafer preparation is high at present, but it is expected to reduce as volume increases. Recent studies about SIMOX SOI technology have demonstrated that the performance of the SIMOX-based submicron devices is superior to the circuits using the bulk silicon.

  • In this study, gel powder which had relatively high hydration reactivity in CaO and P2O5 rich composition of CaO-P2O5-SiO2-H2O system was prepared by sol-gel process and its hydrated specimen was manufactured. The it was investigated to appropriate calcination temperature in sol-gel process which hydrated specimen of gel powder have proven to strength and the effect of factors influenced strength in hydration process. The major product of before and after hydration reaction was hydroxyapatite, and crystalline phase of C-S-H was already formed during gelation process. After hydration reaction of pressed specimen, crystalline phase of C-S-P-H was formed. It was hydrated product of silicocarnotite (5CaO.P2O5.SiO2). Gel phases of C-S-H and C-S-P-H occured as a result of partial substitution of amorphous silica by P2O5 was formed. The strength of hydrated hardened body is developed by strong bonding and bridging between the gel phases of C-S-H or C-S-P-H and the crystalline products such as hydroxyapatite, Ca(OH)2 C-S-H and C-S-P-H. In addition, the ultrafine gel powder have an great effect on increase of hydration reaction.

  • Typical high-performance concrete (HPC) mixtures are characterized by low water-cementitious material ratios, high cement contents, and the incorporation of admixtures. In spite of its superior properties in the hardened state, HPC suffers from many practical difficulties such as its sensitivity to early-age cracking (which is associated with self-desiccation and autogenous shrinkage). In this context, conventional curing procedures are not sufficiently effective to address these limitations. In order to overcome this issue, two strategies, which are based on the use of internal reservoirs of water, have been recently developed. One of these strategies is based on the use of lightweight aggregates (LWA), while the other is based on the use of superabsorbent polymers (SAP). This paper studies and compares the efficiency of the LWA and SAP approaches. Moreover, some of the theoretical aspects that should be taken into account to optimize their application for internal curing of HPC are also discussed. Two fine LWA's and one SAP are studied in terms of autogenous deformation and compressive strength. Increasing the amounts of LWAor SAP can lead to a reduction of the autogenous deformation and compressive strength (especially when adding large amounts). By selecting appropriate materials and controlling their amount, size, and porosity, highly efficient internal water curing can be ensured.

  • Concrete is the most widely used building material all over the world, because of its many technical and economic qualities. This pressure on the concrete resource causes an intensive exploitation of the quarries of aggregates, which results in a exhaustion of these and environmental problems. That is why recycling and valorization of materials are considered as future solutions, to fill the deficit between production and consumption and to protect the environment. This study is part of the valorization process of local materials, which aims to reuse marble waste as fine aggregate (excess loads of marble waste exposed to bad weather conditions) available in the marble quarry of Fil-fila (Skikda, East of Algeria) in the manufacture of self-compacting concretes. It consists of introducing the marble waste as sand into the self-compacting concrete formulation, with variable percentages (25%, 50%, 75% and 100%) and to study the development of its properties both in fresh state (air content, density, slump flow, V-funnel, L-box and sieve stability) as well as the hardened one (compressive strength and flexural strength). The results obtained showed us that marble wastes can be used as sand in the manufacture of self compacting concretes.
