  • In the turbine-blade manufacturing industry, turbine-blades are machined and then are assembled to form a circular roll of blades. The roll of blades should be balanced as much as possible, since otherwise the efficiency of the turbine generator might be damaged. A locking blade is a blade whose location is fixed and a non-locking blade is a blade whose location can be freely changed. In this paper, we study methods for balancing the weights of the rotating blades for a turbine where some blades are locking blades. The turbine-blade balancing problem is formulated into a mixed-integer programming problem, which turns out to be NP-hard. A heuristic method based on the number partitioning algorithm is developed and the computational experiments show very promising results.

  • The HDD (hard disk drive) using Load/Unload (L/UL) technology includes the benefits which are increased areal density, reduced power consumption and improved shock resistance than those of contact-start-stop (CSS). Dynamic L/UL has been widely used in portable hard disk drive and will become the key technology for developing the small form factor hard disk drive. Main design objectives of the L/UL mechanisms are no slider-disk contact or no media damage even with contact during L/UL, and a smooth and short load and unload process. In this paper, we focus on state matrix, pitch static attitude (PSA), roll static attitude (RSA), loading/unloading contour (LC/ULC), impact force and contact. Stability of slider is mainly determined by PSA and RSA. State matrix by PSA and RSA is also important indicator. Therefore we analyze state matrix of SFF HDD suspension through the LC/ULC.

In this paper, we focus on lift-off force, pitch static attitude (PSA), roll static attitude (RSA) and dimple point. The "lift-off" force, defined as the minimum air bearing force, is another very important indicator of unloading performance. A large amplitude of lift-off force increases the ramp force, the unloading time, the slider oscillation and contact-possibility. PSA and RSA are also very important parameters in L/UL system and stability of slider is mainly determined by PSA and RSA. Dimple point by PSA and RSA is also important indicator. Therefore we find the optimal dimple point of SFF HDD suspension for improving the unloading performance.

  • In this study, hard roll breads were prepared with 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15% of concentrated sweet pumpkin powder (CSPP). The samples and a control were then compared in terms of quality characteristics, including pH, total titratable acidity, fermentation power of dough expansion, specific volume, baking loss, moisture content, color, textural characteristics, external and internal surface appearances, and sensory qualities of bread in order to determine the optimal ratio of CSPP in the formulation. As CSPP content increased, pH of dough, specific volume, baking loss, and lightness of bread decreased, while total titratable acidity of dough, pH, total titratable acidity, moisture content, and redness of bread increased. Fermentation power of dough expansion increased as incubation time increased. The CSPP samples had significantly higher yellowness, hardness, cohesiveness, gumminess, chewiness, and resilience than the control group. Adhesiveness was the highest at the 12% substitution level, while the lowest at the 6% level. Springiness increased with increasing CSPP content. In the sensory evaluation, as CSPP content increased, scores for color and consistency of crumb decreased, while scores for aroma of sweet pumpkin, sweetness, and delicious taste increased. Density of crumb pore were maximal with the 12% CSPP substitution. The CSPP samples had significantly higher uniformity of crumb pore and springiness of crumb than the control group. However, mouth-feel and overall acceptability showed the reverse effect, obtaining fairly good scores. In conclusion, the results indicate that substituting $6{\sim}9%$ CSPP to hard roll bread is optimal, providing good physiological properties as well as reasonably high overall acceptability.

  • The hydrodynamic forces acting on a forced oscillating 2-dimensional cylinder on a free surface of a fluid of a finite depth are calculated by distributing singularities on the immersed body surface. And the Haskind-Newman relation in a fluid of a finite depth is derived. The wave exciting force of the cylinder to an oscillation is also calculated by using the above relation. The method is applied to a circular cylinder swaying in a water of finite depth, and then, to a rectangular cylinder heaving, swaying, and rolling. The results of above cases give a good agreement with those by earlier investigators such as Bai, Keil, and Yeung. Also, this method is applied to a Lewis form cylinder with a half beam-to-draft ratio of 1.0 and a sectional area coefficient of 0.941, and to a bulbous section cylinder which is hard to represent by a mapping function. The results reveal that the hydrodynamic forces in heave increase as the depth of a water decrease, but in sway or roll, the tendency of the hydrodynamic forces is difficult to say in a few words. The exciting force to heave for a bulbous section cylinder becomes zero at two frequencies. The added mass moment of inertia for roll is seemed to mainly depend on the sectional shape than the water depth.

  • Music with the development of the media since the 20th century marks a change into an era where the live performance and music of the masses, which were hard to imagine in previous times, are shared. Based on this cultural trend, teenage music, which has been completely alienated from existing culture, is in line with the birth of Rock 'n' Roll, an event that has entered the mainstream, and the emergence of the guitar, especially the solid body electric guitar. The Fender Stratocaster, which is referred to as the epitome of this electric guitar, has joined the history of popular music for rock 'n' roll. To this day, the immense influence, which still encompasses many followers and generations, has served as a bridge that continues to be reproduced, even in the historical trend of popular music and the status of electric guitars. In addition, even in the rapid development of popular music and media, we will always be able to give true meaning and value to the vitality with the times. This paper examines the features and marks of these Fender Stratocasters.

  • A study was conducted on the effects of carbon, tungsten, and vanadium on the wear properties and surface roughness of four High Speed Steel (HSS) rolls manufactured by the centrifugal casting method. Hot-rolling simulation tests were carried out using a high-temperature wear tester capable of controlling speed, load, and temperature. HSS rolls contained a large amount (up to 25 vol.%) of carbides such as MC, $M_{2}C$, $M_{7}C_{3}$, and $M_{6}C$ carbides formed in the tempered martensite matrix. The matrix consisted mainly of lath tempered martensite when the carbon content in the matrix was small, and contained a considerable amount of plate tempered martensite when the carbon content increased. The high-temperature wear test results indicated that the wear properties and surface roughness of the rolls improved when the amount of hard MC carbides formed inside solidification cells increased. The rolls distribution was also homogeneous. The best wear properties and surface roughness were obtained from a roll where a large amount of MC carbides was homogeneously distributed in the lath tempered martensite matrix. The proper contents of carbon equivalent, tungsten equivalent, and vanadium were 2.0~2.3%, 9~10%, and 5~6%, respectively.

  • The 180 toothbrushes out of 18 models( ten brushes for each model) were used for this examination among the toothbrushes for adults which were sold in the domestic markets. After three-month brushings through a roll ing method and Bass method were practiced with Toothbrush Stroke Tester which reproduced brushing methods outside the mouth, I investigated the morphology bristle tips of using scanning electron microscope(SEM). The conclusions are as follows. 1. Soft bristle toothbrushes(of 8 models out of 9 models) were badly damaged at the bristles end after 3 month toothbrushing. 2. Medium bristle toothbrushes(of four models out of five models) were irregularly worn at the bristles end after 3 month toothbrushing. 3. Hard bristle toothbrushes(of three models out of four models) were chisel-shapedly worn at the bristles end after 3 month toothbrushing. 4. Taper-shaped toothbrushes were very irregularly bent at the bristles end after 3 month toothbrushing. 5. It was examined in the bristle stiffness that soft bristle toothbrushes were found in 9 models(50.00%), medium bristle toothbrushes in 5 models(27.78%), and hard-bristle toothbrushes in 4 models(22.22%).
