  • A highly efficient mirror surface grinding technology has been developed for hard and brittle materials various metal materials, by employing the ELID (electrolytic in-process dressing) grinding method using metal bonded grinding wheels. In this research, some typical applications of ELID-grinding for cylindrical grinding are introduced and the mirror grinding characteristics are investigated. Good results are obtained in the grinding of ceramics and tungsten carbide.

  • My company develops, manufactures injection mold and produces thin-walled cosmetics and food containers. Without high quality and low production cost, it is hard to compete in the market. To be competitive, a company has to utilize mold with as many cavities as possible to lower manufacturing cost. Eject plate abrasion and deformation cut down mold lifespan, troubles during injection lower productivity and foreign substances in molds cause abrasion. This study focuses on how to improve mold life and productivity, and to slow down mold abrasion.

  • The HDM(Hole Drilling Method) is a relatively simple and accurate method in measuring residual stress of welded metal. Various methods of evaluating residual stress are studied in welding field. The method of cutting holes on the plate much affects the accuracy of result. Especially for the hard material like stainless steel difficult to cut preciously is difficult to measure residual stress on welded metal. Because heat conduction of stainless steel is lower than other general steel, the magnitude of residual stress might be different as to changing of welding conditions. Therefore, The distribution of residual stress on the STS304 steel after welding using HDM is evaluated in this paper.

  • Organobentonite modified with hexadecyltrimethylammonium (HDTMA) was used to quantify an adsorption of heavy metals. Based on preliminary experiments, optimal soil/solution ratio, a range of pH, and electrolyte were selected. Adsorption experiments of cadmium and lead were conducted to quantify an adsorption selectivity to bentonite and organobentonite. Adsorption of cadmium and lead to bentonite was increased with increasing a soil/solution ratio. Adsorption of cadmium and lead to bentonite was increased with increasing a soil/solution ratio. Adsorptions of heavy metal to organobentonite were slightly reduced relative to bentonite. This study used the principle of hard-soft-acid-base (HBAB) to interpretate an adsorption mechanism. Because of competition between cadmium and lead. adsorption of cadmium and lead was reduced in mixture of heavy metals. Adsorption selectivity.

  • It is reasonable to use the stereo vision and image processing technique to digitize 3D coordinates of grid points and to evaluate surface strains on a sheet metal parts. However this method has its intrinsic problems such as the difficulty in enhancement of bad images inevitable error due to digital image resolution of camera and frame grabber unreliability of strains and thickness evaluated from coarse grid on the corner area with large curvature and the limitation of the area that can be measured at a time. Therefore it is still hard to measure strain distribution over the entire surface of a medium,- or large-sized stamped part at a time even by using an automated strain measurement system. In this study the curvature correction algorithm based on the grid refinement and the geometry assembling algorithm based on the global error minimization (GEM) scheme are suggested. Several applications are presented to show the reliability and efficiency of these algorithms.

  • Advanced hard materials based on diamond are in common use. In this study our main goal was employed to analyze, the mechanisms for the rich phases and chromium carbide, interface of a diamond grits brazed to a Ni-based brazing filler metal matrix. When Ni-7Cr-3Fe-3B-4Si (wt. %) was utilized as the brazing alloy, an isothermal holding resulted in the various products(Ni-rich/Cr-rich domains, carbide). According to these results, the chemical compounds and chromium carbides products is considered to play an important role in brazing temperature and time. Especially chromium carbide has an influence on brazing junction properties.

Fabrication of low-stress silicon nitride film for application to biochemical sensor array

  • Low-stress silicon nitride (LSN) thin films with embedded metal line have been developed as free standing structures to keep microspheres in proper locations and localized heat source for application to a chip-based sensor array for the simultaneous and near-real-time detection of multiple analytes in solution. The LSN film has been utilized as a structural material as well as a hard mask layer for wet anisotropic etching of silicon. The LSN was deposited by LPCVD (Low Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition) process by varing the ratio of source gas flows. The residual stress of the LSN film was measured by laser curvature method. The residual stress of the LSN film is 6 times lower than that of the stoichiometric silicon nitride film. The test results showed that not only the LSN film but also the stack of LSN layers with embedded metal line could stand without notable deflection.

  • The characteristics of various important microstructural factors of WC-base hard- metals (cemented carbides) such as the amount of Co metal binder phase, the carbide grain size, the microstructural defects acting as a fracture source, the solid solubility of tungsten in the binder phase affected by the carbon content, the precipitation of $Co_3W$, the domain size of binder phase, the formation of ${\beta}-free$ layer or Co-rich layer and CVD or PVD coated layer, and the effects of these factors on the flexural strength of the hardmetals are reviewed.

PET-CT 융합 영상에서 치과보철물의 금속 종류에 따른 표준섭취계수 값의 변화 (Changes in the Standardized Uptake Value According to the Type of Metal of Dental Prosthesis in PET-CT Fusion Image)

  • 본 연구는 PET-CT 검사를 시행할 때 치과보철물에 의해 발생되는 CT의 HU(Hounsfield Unit) 값을 금속의 종류에 따라 측정하고, PET 영상의 왜곡정도와 표준섭취계수(SUV)의 변화를 확인하여 영상 판독 시 오류의 감소방안을 제시하고자 하였다. 실험방법은 실제 치아와 메탈 크라운, 골드크라운, 티타늄, 지르코니아의 치과보철물을 이용하여 PET-CT 검사를 실시하였다. 일반 치아와 비교한 결과 HU 값이 증가함에 따라 SUV 값이 증가되는 것을 확인하였고, 메탈 크라운, 티타늄, 지르코니아의 SUV 값은 37% 정도 증가되었고, 골드 크라운에서는 45.4%로 가장 많이 증가했다. 그리고 일반치아, 메탈크라운, 티타늄, 지르코니아에서 영상 왜곡은 미미했지만, 골드 크라운에서는 선속경화현상이 심하게 발생하였고, 영상 왜곡이 나타났다. 따라서 치과보철물의 금속종류는 SUV 값에 영향을 미치기 때문에 치과 보철물 중에서 골드 재질을 사용한 환자를 진단할 때에는 영상 판독 시 보정된 PET 영상보다는 NAC(무보정) PET 영상을 확인한다면 판독에 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

기능창을 이용한 박판성형의 공정 최적화 (Application of Operating Window to Robust Process Optimization of Sheet Metal Forming)

  • It is essential to embed product quality in the design process to win the global competition. Many components found in many products including automobiles and electronic devices are fabricated using sheet metal forming processes. Wrinkle and fracture are two types of defects frequently found in the sheet metal forming process. Reducing such defects is a hard problem as they are affected by many uncontrollable factors. Attempts to solve the problem based on traditional deterministic optimization theories are often led to failures. Furthermore, the wrinkle and fracture are conflicting defects in such a way that reducing one defect leads to increasing the other. Hence, it is a difficult task to reduce both of them at the same time. In this research, a new design method for reducing the rates of conflicting defects under uncontrollable factors is presented by using operating window and a sequential search procedure. A new SN ratio is proposed to overcome the problems of a traditional SN ratio used in the operating window technique. The method is applied to optimizing the robust design of a sheet metal forming process. To show the effectiveness of the proposed method, a comparison is made between the traditional and the proposed methods using simulation software, applied to a design of particular sheet metal forming process problem. The results show that the proposed method always gives a more robust design that is less sensitive to noises than the traditional method.
