Improvement of the Corrosion Resistance of PVD Hard Coating/Substrate Systems - Recent Developments -

  • Hard coatings playa continuously increasing role in the field of tribology as well as for decorative applications. In both areas they are often also exposed to corrosive media. While especially hard nitride coatings show a high corrosion resistance for themselves, hard $coating_strate systems may suffer from a severe corrosion attack due to the defects in the coating structure (pores, pinholes) resulting from the PVD-typical film morphology. While a huge number of investigations cover the tribological properties, only limited studies deal with the corrosion behavjour of coating substrate systems and attempts are made to improve their corrosion resistance. The present paper shortly describes the corrosion mechanisms and repots characteristic examples of the system behaviour. Special emphasis is laid on recent investigations to improve the corrosion resistance by alloying, interlayers or multilayered coating structures.es.

플라스틱 디스플레이 기판용UV 하드 코팅 용액의 합성 (Synthesis of Hard Coating Solution for Plastic Display Plate)

  • Poly(urethane acrylate) siloxane oligomers with Interpenetrating polymer netwoked nanoparticles were prepared to synthesize hard coating solution by reaction with diisocyanates. The diisocyanate combined siloxane hard coating solution showed more flexibility than the siloxane solution. In addition, diisocyanate resulted in improvement of curl property and surface hardness in the siloxane solution. Of the used diisocyanates, isophorone diisocyanate and acryloyloxy ethyl diisocyanate were good for UV hard coating solution. This effect will decrease brittleness in the siloxane solution using for plastic display plate.

자외선 경화형 고경도 PET 필름의 제조 및 특성 (Preparation and Properties of UV Curable Hard Coating Materials on PET)

  • UV curable transparent hard coating materials have been developed to improve the mechanical and optical properties of PET substrate. The coating materials were synthesized using various urethane acrylate oligomers, monomers, photo initiators, and leveling agents. The materials were coated on PET substrates and UV cured. The hard coated PET films were shown to have the good scratch resistance and transparency. When the urethane acrylate oligomer with more functional groups was introduced into the coating solution, the mechanical and optical properties were improved. However the higher concentration of 9-functional oligomer resulted in the decrease of workability. The addition of trimethylolpropane ethoxylate$(EO/OH)_9$ triacrylate(TMPETA) to coating solution improved the workability and properties. As a result, the UV cured film from the formulation of urethane acrylate oligomer with 9-functional groups, TMPETA as a monomer, IRACURE 754 as a photo initiator and BYK-340 as a leveling agent showed the best mechanical and optical properties in this study.

PVC 바닥상재용 광경화형 하드 코팅액의 제조 및 응용에 관한 연구 (Formulation and Application of UV-Cured Hard Coating Compounds for PVC Tile)

  • 본 연구는 건축자재로 널리 사용되는 PVC 바닥상재의 표면을 스크래치로부터 보호하기 위하여 기존에 사용하는 광경화형 우레탄-아크릴 수지에 내마모성을 향상시킨 광경화형 하드 코팅액 개발에 관한 것이다. PVC 바닥상재용으로 사용되는 내마모성이 없는 우레탄-아크릴 수지에 $Al_2O_3$(Al-160SG-3), $Al(OH)_3$(SH-8W) 및 $SiO_2$(KS-5000) 등 서로 다른 내마모성을 지닌 물질을 분말 형태로 수지의 양 대비 함량(wt%)을 $10{\sim}30%$로 변화하여 첨가한 후 링밀(Ring Mill)을 사용, 배합하여 수지의 내마모성을 향상시킨 하드 코팅액을 제조하였다. 제조한 하드 코팅액은 코팅층의 두께조절이 가능한 코팅(Bar-coating)을 사용하여 PVC 바닥상재에 코팅 한 후 내마모성, 연필경도, 부착력, 코팅두께 등의 코팅층 표면물성을 평가하였다. 연구결과, 수지에 $Al_2O_3$ 분말 30%를 혼합하여 제조한 하드 코팅액이 내마모성 1등급, 연필경도 H, 부착력 100%로 가장 좋은 물성을 보였으며, 전반적으로 입자크기가 작고, 분말 함량이 많을수록 또한 코팅두께가 두꺼워 질수록 경도 및 내마모성이 우수한 것으로 나타났다.

METALLIC COATING PROTECTION ON DIELECTROMAGNETS PREPARED FROM MIXTURE OF HARD MAGNETIC POWDERS

  • Our team works on mixture of hard magnetic materials. As hard magnetic material we used mixture of powders: melt-spun ribbon Nd-Fe-B, ferrite and Alnico. Their different mixtures are basic material for dielectromagnets under our investigation. Main disadvantage of dielectromagnets with Nd-Fe-B alloy powder as a component is a low corrosion resistance. Protection against corrosion is covering dielectromagnets with metallic or organic coating film. The coating film protects dielectromagnets from free particles on the surface and low resistance for mechanical stresses too. The surface of dielectromagnets prepared from mixture of powders if formed by metallic particles - powder of Nd-Fe-B and Alnico, particles of oxide - powder of ferrite and particles of resin - bonding materials. Team work on technology of laying the metallic coating on dielectromagnets prepared from mixture of mentioned powders. Papers show the results of initial investigation on metallic coating technology. It shows influence of type and used technology of the metallic coating film on magnetic properties of dielectromagnets.

내마모성 색상코팅제를 코팅한 폴리카보네이트 필름의 물리적 특성 (The Physical Properties of Polycarbonate Films Coated with Hard and Color Coating Materials)

  • 폴리카보네이트(polycarbonate)는 가볍고, 내충격성 및 가공성이 우수하여 광학기기의 렌즈 및 각종 건축물의 투명 소재 등에 유리의 대체품으로서 널리 이용되고 있으나 낮은 표면경도를 가지고 있어 유통 또는 사용시의 접촉으로 인하여 제품에 손상을 줄 염려가 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 폴리카보네이트 필름에 아크릴레이트 올리고머, 모노머, 용매, 염료, 실리콘 아크릴레이트, 그리고 광개시제 등을 다양한 함량비율에 따라 혼합한 코팅용액을 제조하고, 구성 성분의 비율에 따른 폴리카보네이트 필름의 표면 경도, 접착력, 그리고 투과율의 변화를 실험하였다. 그 결과 최대 연필 경도가 2H이고, 접착력과 가시광선 투과율이 우수한 코팅용액의 조성을 얻었다. 색상코팅 실험 결과, 기존 산화물 증착에 의해 구현하던 색상을 본 실험에서 제조한 코팅 용액을 사용하여 거의 대부분 구현할 수 있었으며, 이를 바탕으로 색상 윈도우 렌즈를 제작한 결과, 매우 깨끗하고 균일한 색상과 표면을 가졌다.

Rheological perspectives of industrial coating process

  • Coating process plays an important role in information technology such as display, battery, chip manufacturing and so on. However, due to complexity of coating material and fast deformation of the coating flow, the process is hard to control and it is difficult to maintain the desired quality of the products. Moreover, it is hard to measure the coating process because of severe processing conditions such as high drying temperature, high deformation coating flow, and sensitivity to the processing variables etc. In this article, the coating process is to be re-illuminated from the rheological perspectives. The practical approach to analyze and quantify the coating process is discussed with respect to coating materials, coating flow and drying process. The ideas on the rheology control of coating materials, pressure and wet thickness control in patch coating process, and stress measurement during drying process will be discussed.

Hard Coating Materials Using Copolymers of 2,5-dichlorobenzophenone and 1,4-dichlorobenzene

  • In this study, 2,5-dichlorobenzophenone was synthesized as a monomer using 1,4-dichlorbenzene, and subsequently, copolymers of benzoyl-p-phenylene and p-phenylene were prepared. The average molecular weight was improved using the low-molecular-weight polymer cutting method. The average molecular weight and glass transition temperature of the synthesized polymers were estimated. The as-prepared polymer was used as a hard coating material, and the coating was conducted on a poly(methyl methacrylate) plate. Furthermore, physical properties of the coatings, such as pencil hardness, adhesive strength, and abrasion resistance, were estimated. As the amount of p-phenylene in the copolymer increased, pencil hardness and abrasion resistance improved. The amount of p-phenylene in the copolymer can be increased to 30 mol% in order to increase the hardness of the coating, and the adhesive strength was insufficient for the copolymers with p-phenylene ratio greater than 35 mol%.

폴리우레탄 코팅제에 있어서 Hard Segment와 Soft Segment의 조성 및 함량변화가 내마모성에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Soft/Hard Segment Composition and Content on the Abrasion Resistance of Polyurethane Coating Agents)

  • Weatherstrip coatings of urethane and silicon type which are fit to EPDM and thermoplastic materials are used in sealing systems for automotive applications for noise reduction and high slip characteristics for external applications, respectively. Polyurethane binder was successfully synthesized from poly(butyladiphate)diol (PBAD), poly(tetramethylene)glycol (PTMG) and isocyanate as starting materials. Then, polyurethane coating agents were prepared by using various additives. To investigate effects of segment types on the abrasion resistance of polyurethane coating agents, thin films based on polyurethane coating materials were fabricated. With increasing the amount of hard segment in the coating agent, abrasion resistance, modulus and tensile strength of the coating films were improved, but the elongation of the coating films was decreased.

Colloidal Silica가 Sol-Gel 하드 코팅 막의 광 변색 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Colloidal Silica on the Photochromic Properties of Hard Coating Films Prepared by Sol-Gel Method)

  • 금속염인 lanthanum nitrate를 증류수에 용해시킨 후 실란커플링제인 ${\gamma}$-glycidyloxypropyl trimethoxysilane과 금속산화물인 colloidal silica를 이 용액에 첨가하여 sol-gel법에 의해 유-무기 혼성 용액을 제조하였다. 또한 spiropyran계 광변색 염료를 용매인 tetrahydrofuran에 용해시킨 후 앞서 제조한 혼성 용액과 혼합하여 광 변색 코팅 용액을 제조하였다. 그 후 기재인 polycarbonate 시트에 코팅시키고 열 경화시켜 광 변색성을 갖는 하드 코팅 막을 제조하였다. 이 과정 중 colloidal silica의 첨가량이 코팅 막의 광변색 특성에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. Colloidal silica의 첨가량이 증가할수록 코팅 막의 소색속도가 빨라졌으며 연필경도가 증가하였다.
