물질순환모델을 이용한 제주항의 수질관리(II) - 제주항의 수질 특성과 오염부하량 산정 - (Water quality management of Jeiu Harbor using material cycle model(II) - Characteristics of water quality in Jeiu harbor and the estimation of pollutant loadings -)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of water quality in Jeju harbor and to estimate pollutant loadings discharged into Jeju Harbor. To know characteristics of water quality in Jeju harbor, and pollutant loadings of Sanzi river, we have investigated from August, 2000 to May, 2001. The results showed that the concentrations of COD, DIN and DIP were in the range of 1.00∼4.85 mg/L (mean 2.15 mg/L), 2.14∼74.0 $\mu\textrm{g}$-at/L(mean 12.20 $\mu\textrm{g}$-at/L) and 0.52∼4.00 $\mu\textrm{g}$-at/L(mean 1.18 $\mu\textrm{g}$-at/L), respectively. These values were under III class of seawater quality criteria. The ratio of nitrogen to phosphorus was lower than 16 except for Station 1 in Jeju harbor. Therefore, nitrogen was playing an important role in phytoplankton growth as limiting factor in Jeju harbor. The mean values of eutrophication index were exceeding 1, which was the eutrophication criteria. The results of estimating pollutant loadings at Sanzi river are 0.30 ton/day for COD, 300 kg/day for DIN and 18.0 kg/day for DIP, respectively.

Behavior of Currents and Suspended Sediments around a Silt Screen

  • The behavior of Suspended Sediment Concentrations (SSC) around a silt screen in a microtidal coastal area was hydrodynamically measured. The current speed at the mid-layer about 30m downstream of the screen reduces to about half that at the same distance upstream. It was caused by the contraction of the vertical section due to the screen. Even during a relatively weak storm period the SSC increases to that of the value caused by dredging. Section-averaged SSC at the downstream of the screen is higher by about 60% than that at the upstream, suggesting that the silt screen plays an adverse effect rather than a constructive role in the reduction of SSC generated by dredging.

  • Sediment plumes arising from various coastal works can cause detrimental effects on the coastal ecosystem in various manners. Although the most active countermeasure against the plumes is to restrict the works to specified time periods known as environmental windows (Reine et al., 1998), silt screens have been widely used for reducing the spreading of suspended sediments (SS) generated by coastal works. 환경친화적 항만건설을 위한 항내 희석률 예측 (Prediction of a Flushing Rate in an Embayment System for Construction of an Environmentally Sound Harbor)

  • This paper presents a novel method to predict a flushing rate in an embayment system, which can be utilized to assess an environmental impact caused by harbor construction. The method was successfully applied to the Ulsan-Onsan coastal area. The flushing rate was computed on the basis of water quality changes predicted by US Army Corps of Engineers' RMA-2/RMA-4 models. After calibration and verification to the measured tidal elevation and current velocity, the model was used to estimate the flushing rate in the proposed harbor. The water quality was simulated for 96 hours and the flushing rate was computed. The results indicated that the proposed harbor would significantly reduce the flushing rate in the Onsan harbor, especially at the small embayment area near the south breakwater. The flushing rate was evaluated for several alternatives, of which the tidal flow channel of 1,000 $m^2$ in the south pier appeared to be the best mitigation measure. This study proposes that the prediction of flushing rate would be a novel method to assess a water quality impact caused by harbor construction.

항만공사제도의 효율적 운영방안 - 인천항만공사를 중심으로 - (Strategies for the Efficient Management of the Port Authority System in Korea: Focused on Incheon Port Authority)

  • In order to improve inefficient and unproductive factors and in response to criticisms of the failure in harbor privatization introduced in 1997, the Korean government introduced the Port Authority system, which is commonly adopted in advanced harbors in the world. This research examined the theoretical background of harbor management system and various cases of harbor management in foreign countries. The desirable introduction of Port Authority system must be preceded by the settlement of problems in harbor structure and operation. In addition, the Port Authority Act, which restricts the autonomy of harbor corporations, should be improved for user-centered Port Authority system. Strategies for the successful introduction of Incheon Port Authority are as follows. Firstly it is required to establish consumer-centered harbor operation system. The second requirement is to activate the harbor logistics industry through the development of nearby logistic complexes led by Port Authority and, by doing so, to promote the development of local economy. Thirdly it is essential to lay the foundation of mutual prosperity through developing profitable businesses by linking localities and harbors, and to suggest a crisis control network for Port Authority and local self-governing bodies to cope jointly with crises in logistics and natural disasters.

전달함수 모형을 이용한 포항신항 내·외의 외중력파 특성 분석 (Analysis on the Characteristics of the Infra-Gravity Waves inside and outside Pohang New Harbor using a Transfer Function Model)

  • 주기가 약 1~3분인 외중력파는 항만 내의 계류선박의 거동해석 및 연안 표사이동 해석에 직접적인 영향을 미치는 인자이다. 먼 바다의 유의미한 외중력파가 항만으로 전파되어 증폭될 경우 대형선박의 하역작업을 중단시켜 경제적인 손실을 유발할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 포항신항의 항외 및 항내에서 약 5년 동안 동시 관측한 파랑 자료에 대한 통계분석 및 전달함수를 사용하여 항만 외부로부터 내부로의 외중력파 전파특성을 분석하였다. 전파 특성분석은 외중력파의 파고가 0.1 m 이상이 되는 사상만을 이용하였다. 통계적인 특성분석 결과, 항만 내부의 파고분포는 외부와 유사한 반면 주기분포는 항만 외부보다 분산이 컸다. 전달함수의 매개변수는 각각의 사상에 대하여 최적 추정하였다. 항만 내부의 파고 추정 평균 RMS 오차는 0.013 m 수준이었다. 추정 매개변수는 외중력파의 파고, 주기 및 파향의 선형조합 정보와 강한 상관관계가 있었다(R = 0.95). 본 연구에서 제안한 전달함수는 사전 예측된 외중력파 정보를 이용하여 항만 내부의 외중력파 정보를 빠르고 간단하게 추정할 수 있으므로 예상하지 못한 항만이용 제한에 따른 피해를 저감할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • The Gramene database (http://www.gramene.org) is a powerful online resource for agricultural researchers, plant breeders and educators that provides easy access to reference data, visualizations and analytical tools for conducting cross-species comparisons. Learn the benefits of using Gramene to enrich your lectures, accelerate your research goals, and respond to your organismal community needs. Gramene's genomes portal hosts browsers for 44 complete reference genomes, including crops and model organisms, each displaying functional annotations, gene-trees with orthologous and paralogous gene classification, and whole-genome alignments. SNP and structural diversity data, available for 11 species, are displayed in the context of gene annotation, protein domains and functional consequences on transcript structure (e.g., missense variant). Browsers from multiple species can be viewed simultaneously with links to community-driven organismal databases. Thus, while hosting the underlying data for comparative studies, the portal also provides unified access to diverse plant community resources, and the ability for communities to upload and display private data sets in multiple standard formats. Our BioMart data mining interface enable complex queries and bulk download of sequence, annotation, homology and variation data. Gramene's pathway portal, the Plant Reactome, hosts over 240 pathways curated in rice and inferred in 66 additional plant species by orthology projection. Users may compare pathways across species, query and visualize curated expression data from EMBL-EBI's Expression Atlas in the context of pathways, analyze genome-scale expression data, and conduct pathway enrichment analysis. Our integrated search database and modern user interface leverage these diverse annotations to facilitate finding genes through selecting auto-suggested filters with interactive views of the results.

Harbor Gate와 유입하천의 영향을 고려한 만내의 2차원 수리해석 (A Two-dimensional Hydraulic Analysis Considering the Influence of River Inflow and Harbor Gate in the Bay)

  • 본 연구에서는 연안지역의 방재를 위하여 외해에 방조제를 설치하였을 때 유입하천의 홍수량을 고려하여 만내의 2차원 수리분석을 실시하였다. 대상지역으로 영산강과 목포항 해역을 선정하였으며, 먼저 영산강 살리기 사업으로 인한 하상준설 및 하도변화에 따른 영산강의 수위영향을 검토하기 위하여 HEC-RAS 모형을 적용하여 1차원수리분석을 실시하였다. 또한, 전세계적으로 사용되고 범용 및 상용화 되어있는 2차원 동수역학 모형인 SMS의 CMS-Flow 모델을 이용하여 외해에 Harbor Gate 설치를 통한 2차원 수리분석을 하고, 영산강의 홍수량에 대한 수리학적 흐름의 특성을 분석함으로써 2차원 모형의 적합성을 검토하였다. 2차원 수리분석은 방조수문 설치 유 무와 내수경계조건으로 영산강 유입량 적용 유무을 고려한 4가지 경우에 대하여 외해 경계조건을 부여하여 실시하였으며, 2차원 모형의 적용 결과 방조수문 설치로 인하여 목포항 해역의 해수면 변화는 영산강 하구둑의 방류량이 지배적이며, 방조수문과 하구둑에 의해 만들어진 저수지의 용적량이 방류량의 용적에 비해 많이 부족하므로 방조수문 설치시 영산강 하구둑과 방조수문의 유기적인 운영이 필요하다고 판단된다.

유한요소법에 의한 항만 정온도의 수치모의 (The Numerical Simulation of Harbor Calmness by Finite Element Method)

  • In this paper, a finite element method is applied to the numerical calculation of the harbor calmness. The mild stop equation as the basic equation is used. The key of this model is that the bottom friction and boundary absorption are imposed. A numerical result is presented and compared with the results obtained from the other numerical analysis. These results are in very well agreement. This method calculating the calmness can be broadly utilized making the new design of harbor and fishing port in the future.
