  • In accordance with development of many smart phone applications, the importance of keypad that can be used in smart phone has been increasing. In this paper, we design the Hangul smart phone keypad to type a Hangeul characters more efficiently by considering the characteristics of the Hangul characters based on the existing research on smart phones keypad. The proposed keypad in this paper, when we placed the letters on the keyboard, minimizes the travel distance by using the frequency of characters and the associated frequency between vowel and consonant. In addition, we define an assessment model for evaluating the performance of the keypad and verify efficiency of the proposed keypad. According to the result of the experiment, the proposed keypad is more efficient than other keypads.

  • In recent years, as many people post their interests on social media or store documents in digital form due to the development of the internet and computer technologies, the amount of text data generated has exploded. Accordingly, the demand for technology to create valuable information from numerous document data is also increasing. In this study, through statistical techniques, we investigate how the meanings of Korean words change over time by using the presidential speech records and newspaper articles public data. Using this, we present a strategy that can be utilized in the study of the synchronic change of Hangeul. The purpose of this study is to deviate from the study of the theoretical language phenomenon of Hangeul, which was studied by the intuition of existing linguists or native speakers, to derive numerical values through public documents that can be used by anyone, and to explain the phenomenon of changes in the meaning of words.

  • Advancing of mobile device is remarkable, so the research on mobile input device is getting more important issue. There are lots of input devices such as keypad, QWERTY keypad, touch and speech recognizer, but they are not as convenient as typical keyboard-based desktop input devices so input strings usually contain many typing errors. These input errors are not trouble with communication among person, but it has very critical problem with searching in database, such as dictionary and address book, we can not obtain correct results. Especially, Hangeul has more than 10,000 different characters because one Hangeul character is made by combination of consonants and vowels, frequency of error is higher than English. Generally, suffix tree is the most widely used data structure to deal with errors of query, but it is not enough for variety errors. In this paper, we propose fast approximate Korean word searching system, which allows variety typing errors. This system includes several algorithms for applying general approximate string searching to Hangeul. And we present profanity filters by using proposed system. This system filters over than 90% of coined profanities.

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm for character recognition using the subdivided type and the stable structure information. The subdivided type of character is acquired from the stable structure information of character which is extracted from an input character. Firstly, the character is obtained from a scanner and classified into on of 6 types by using directional density vector. And then, the stable structure information is extracted from each character and the character is subdivided into on of 26 types. Finally, the classified character is recognized by using neural network which is inputted the directional density vector equivalent to JASO area or recognized direct. Aa a result of experiment with KS C 5601 2350 printed Hangeul characters, we obtain the recognition rate of 94%.

  • The Conservation Science Team at National Museum of Korea has Reproduced the silk wrapper that was used the sarira reliquary found from Pagoda in the Bonginsa, in order to use it in the process of alternating the relics on display in the Hangeul(the Korean language) of the Historical Gallery. Silk fabric of the same texture as the original was used for reproduction. As for the process of dyeing silk fabric, fermented Indigo deposits was used for bluish color, while fruits of the alder trees were used to express the parts that have been faded into yellowish. The Korean characters(court style hangeul) written on the wrapper have been replicated through the use of Ink-stick.

  • In this paper, using the neural network design techniques, an adaptive Mahalanobis distance classifier(AMDC) is designed. This classifier has three layers: input layer, internal layer and output layer. The connection from input layer to internal layer is fully connected, and that from internal to output layer has partial connection that might be thought as an Oring. If two ormore clusters of patterns of one class are laid apart in the feature space, the network adaptively generate the internal nodes, whhch are corresponding to the subclusters of that class. The number of the output nodes in just same as the number of the classes to classify, on the other hand, the number of the internal nodes is defined by the number of the subclusters, and can be optimized by itself. Using the method of making the subclasses, the different patterns that are of the same class can easily be distinguished from other classes. If additional training is needed after the completion of the traning, the AMDC does not have to repeat the trainging that has already done. To test the performance of the AMDC, the experiments of classifying 500 Hangeuls were done. In experiment, 20 print font sets of Hangeul characters(10,000 cahracters) were used for training, and with 3 sets(1,500 characters), the AMDC was tested for various initial variance \ulcornerand threshold \ulcorner and compared with other statistical or neural classifiers.

  • In this paper, a method is proposed for the recognition of hand-written Hangeul. This is peiformed by extraction of the concave structural segments by phase rotation. Character patterns can be decomposed into the fundamental concave structural segments which are also categorized into segment sects, and the closure and phase features of each segment in set is represented by logics. By rotating the logic pattern, the topological and phase features of segment are extracted for the reliable recognition of the character. It is also evaluated that this method applies to a wide variety of shape, position and declination of the character.

  • This article tries to analyze some examples applied the analytico-synthetic classification techniques found in the practical life. For this purpose, it selected and investigated the cases of the combination rules of the Hangeul, the number systems of the city buses of Daegu and Seoul Cities, information of the members of the wedding consulting agencies, information from real estate agents and court auction, and postal codes and direct distance dialing(DDD) numbers in Korea. It suggests that applying the analytico-synthetic classification techniques to the systems can improve them especially in the regards of notational systems.

  • Natural language processing, which is the basis of text mining, differs depending on the type of language. Especially, Hangeul, which has relatively high freedom of expression compared to other languages, has various forms of words depending on the use of ending. The part that does not change in these various forms of words is called the stem. For effective text mining, it is essential to extract words and unify various types of words. Therefore, this paper proposes an extraction algorithm for Hangul word for effective text mining of Hangul document.
