  • Logistics network has been increasingly acknowledged as one of the important driving force for economic development in China. With the scope of logistics effect broadening and the development of logistics infrastructure, both logistics network and economy in terms of GDP in China has experienced rapid development hand in hand. This paper investigates the relationship between logistics network and economic growth, using a dataset covering 31 provinces over the period from 2003 to 2012 in China. Factor analysis is applied to obtain a total evaluation of logistics function defining the impact of logistics network on the national economy growth. According to fixed effect panel data approach, a significant and positive impact of logistics network on economic growth in China is found, meanwhile, a comparative analysis regarding economic development between coastal provinces and interior provinces is also conducted. The results suggest that the impact of logistics network on economic growth is higher in eastern provinces than that in western provinces. The policy implication for other nations, in particular for developing nations, is logistics network should be regarded as an important driving force for economic development, and investment should be made in advance to achieve the best efficiency in economic development and planning.

  • This study was aimed to screen edible herbs which control the composition of intestinal microflora. With in vitro experiments, we screened the water or ethanol extracts of about 60 edible herbs and wild plants in terms of the inhibition activity on the growth of the harmful Clostridium perfringens and growth promoting activity for the beneficial Bifidobacteria. The water extracts of mugwort and small water dropwort inhibited the growth of Cl.perfringens both in agar diffusion method and broth culture. On the other hand, the water extracts of petasites, mugwort, yellow day-lily and bitter cress have shown the promotion effect on the growth of Bifidobacterium longum. In the culture test using human feces as starter, the extracts of the above selected herbs increased the population of Bifidobacteria and Lactobacillus while they reduced the numbers of Cl.perfringens and E.coli.

  • In order to elucidate the formation of reaction tissues during the transition from primary to secondary growth, the developmental anatomy was conducted in the first internode of Ginkgo biloba seedling in horizontal position. The righting of the horizontal first internode took place at the middle portion and gradually proceeded to the base during the primary growth. Reaction tissues were formed corresponding to the righting movement in the horizontal first internode. During the transition from primary to secondary growth, compression wood was gradually developed on the lower side only. The anatomical features of compression wood also extended longitudinally to the lower side of the vertical portion where it coincided with the lower side of the horizontal first internode occurs acropetally from basal to apical portion. Eventually, some of the anatomical features of compression wood occurred at the primary growth. And the typical compression wood is gradually established during the secondary growth. On the other hand, the lower side tracheid and ray were longer and higher than those of the upper side in the horizontal first internode. However, difference in the width of ray was not observed between the lower and upper sides.

  • Effects of nonylphenol (NP) on gonadal development and growth of olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus were investigated. NP treatment was carried out to fry fish (during 55 to 64 days after hatching) using oral adminstration at nominal NP concentrations of 50, 100 and 150 tig/g BW Gonad before NP treatment was sexually undifferentiated as observed with mostly gonia cells. At 159 days after hatching, ovarian lamella of ovary were filled with oogonia and perinucleolus oocytes. On the other hand, testicular lobules of the testis were occupied by spermatogonia, spermatocytes and spermatids. Histological observation of ovary and testis development was any different between the control and NP treated groups. However, growth was significantly increased in NP treated groups than control groups (P< 0.05). These results considerate that NP has any effect for sex differentiation and gonadal development, but act for early growth in olive flounder.

  • The Z-plasty has been known as a most common surgical treatment of congenital circumferential constriction band syndrome of the hand. There were thirteen patients of congenital circumferential constriction band syndrome of the hand. All patients underwent Z-plasty under microscope. we did microsurgical dissection to minimize vascular, neural and lymphatic injury, and then considering secondary correction and scar contracture, tried to preserve as much subcutaneous fat and skin flap as possible without any excision. There were less skin necrosis and lymphedema as a result of vascular compromise. Using microscope offers several advantages. First, preventing vascular, neural and lymphatic injury. Second, getting an accurate suture approximation. finally, preserving as much subcutaneous fat and skin flap as possible without any excision. The outcome of digit growth and contour can be excellent than we expected. As a results, we believe that correction of congenital circumferential constriction band syndrome of the hand under the microscope have better results.

  • This study aimed to investigate the causes of bacterial growth to prevent infection caused by ultrasound gel and gel containers in contact with patients during ultrasonography. To investigate bacterial contamination during manufacturing or storage, we cultured ultrasound gels originally supplied from three manufacturers. To analyze bacterial growth according to the lapse of time and frequency of use of the ultrasound gel container, the gel and container were cultured at regular intervals every week for 4 weeks. In addition, to determine the source of infection, the examiner's hand was inspected with hand plate and the degree of bacterial contamination was measured before the test. As a result of the study, bacteria were not detected in the gel provided at the initial supply, and in the gel and gel container used repeatedly for 4 weeks, the same bacteria residing on the skin were identified in the examiner's hand, such as Staphylococcus epidermidis, Micrococcus luteus, Leuconostoc mesenteroid spp cremoris, Kocuria rhizophila, and etc. Separated strains were classified as those of the low- or non-pathogenicity; however, most of these strains may render fatal consequences to patients of lower level of immunity due to acquired tolerance to antibiotics. At week 1, when the number of tests was the highest, 44 colonies were identified, and at week 4, when the number of tests was the lowest, 4 colonies were identified. As r=0.994, it was found that the number of colonies increased as the number of tests increased. In conclusion, it was confirmed that the cause of the infection was not the ultrasound gel, but the examiner's hand. The ultrasound gel or gel container may be contaminated by skin flora of examiner's hands, which can cause opportunistic infection in patients with low immunity. The ultrasound gel or gel container may be contaminated by skin flora of examiner's hands, which can cause opportunistic infection in patients with low immunity. Therefore, it was confirmed that thorough hand disinfection was necessary to block healthcare-associated infections.

  • To investigate the relationship between craniofacial growth and bone maturity of the hand wrist in normal occlusion, the author took cephalogram and handwrist radiogram of 391 students (male 192, female 199) and assessed the measurements of cephalogram according to skeletal maturity stages of the hand and wrist. In this study, four skeketal stages and 36 linear, angular measurements of the cephalometrics were selected. In hand-wrist X-ray the bones used to determine skeletal maturity were the middle phalanges of the third finger, and distal epiphysis of the radius. In cephalogram, the landmark used to measure the angle and length were N, S, Po., Ar., Go., Me., Gn., Pog., Point B, Point A, ANS, PNS, Or., U1, L1, U6, L6 etc.. The results were as follows, 1. The table of mean, standard deviation, p-value from measurements were made in each group and both sex. 2. The increased measurements according to skeletal maturity were anterior cranial bese length, posterior cranial base length, ramus height, anterior facial height, posterior facial height, L1 to mandibular plane (mm), facial plane angle. In contrast to, decreased measurements were genial angle, facial cnvexity and facial plane angle. 3. Denture pattern measurements (IMPA, FMIA, occlusal plane to Go-Gn, interincisal angle, U1 to SN plane, U1 to SN plane, U1 to facial plane, L1 to facial plane etc.) .had nothing to do with skeletal maturity. 4. Skeletal maturity had close relationship with craniofacial growth, but had little to do with tooth development.

  • Because traumatic tissue damage on hands and feet often lead to loss of function, permanent deformity, prompt and adequate reconstruction is essential. For children, future growth, as well as function and esthetics, must be taken into account. Several techniques have been employed to reconstruct hand and foot dorsum defects of children. However, skin graft and muscle free flap with skin graft cannot prevent contracture and will interfere with normal growth. Fasciocutaneous free flap reduces contracture and enables early physical therapy, decreasing the need for additional surgical intervention. Parascapular flap is particularly suitable because it has reliable pedicle and is relatively thin. There is little functional loss in the donor site, and also simultaneous extensor tendon reconstruction of hand and foot is possible. The disadvantage of this technique is that postoperative defatting is needed to adjust volume. Our department has achieved satisfactory results using this approach, and would like to report 13 cases of hand and foot reconstruction using parascapular flap in patients under the age of 15 (from March, 1998 to May, 2003).

  • This paper focused on the level of managerial centralization on chief executive officer (CEO) as a factor to affect the shared growth activities of corporate. As service corporations are becoming active in shared growth activities recently, this paper thus used CEO. Pay Slice (CPS) information to measure the level of managerial centralization on CEO of service corporation and tested the influence of the level of managerial centralization on whether shared growth activities are executed and the level of such activities respectively. The result of test shows that companies with high managerial centralization on CEO are more passive toward shared growth activities than those without such centralization. This can be interpreted that a CEO with more powerful influence may consider shared growth activities as to be negative and take a passive attitude to them. On the other hand, such result was supported by additional analysis with companies committing shared growth activities as well. This paper is expected to contribute to bring about interest on shared growth activities as the gap between major companies and small and medium sized companies is currently expanding in terms of operating profit ratio and even salary of employees.

  • Various kinds of chinese herbs have been known as to promote growth rate of animals. We investigated the growth promoting effect of the selected plants by using fish and rats as experimental animals. In a preliminary test by using fish, Eleutherococcus senticosus and Artemisia capillasis were found to be effective. Based on this result, we manufactured the mixture of plant extracts and applied this mixture to rice, named as Kiwoomi/sup TM/. When we administered Kiwoomi/sup TM/ to rats, it was found to be effective in growth promotion. Kiwoomi/sup TM/ - administered group showed 49.3% (0.75g/kg B.W.) and 52.3% (1.59/kg.B.W.) growth promotion, respectively. On the other hand, Control group showed 46.2% growth promotion. This growth promotion was supported by increase of GH and IGF-1 level in the Kiwoomi/sup TM/- administered group. From these results, we suggest that this functional rice could be helpful for growing children.
