  • The 3-D Hall sensor has two horizontal magnetic field sensing parts ($\chi$, y components) and one vertical magnetic field sensing part (z component). For conventional, 3-D Hall sensor it is general that the sensitivity for $B_{z}$ is about 1/10 compared with those for $B_\chi$ or $B_y$. Therefore, in this work, we proposed 3-D Hall sensor with new structure. We have increased the sensitivity about 6 times to form the trench using anisotropic etching. And we have increased the sensitivity for the $B_z$ by 80% compared with those of $B_\chi$ and$B_y$ using deposition of the ferromagnetic thin films on the bottom surface of the wafer to concentrate the magnetic fluxes. When the input current was 3 mA, sensitivities of the fabricated sensor with Ni/Fe film for $B_\chi, B_y$ and $B_{z}$ were measured as 120.1 mV/T, 111.7 mV/T, 95.3 mV/T, respectively. The measured linearity of the sensor was within $\pm$3% of error.

  • The conventional 1 Hall sensor-type water gauge has some defects that it can not detect counterflow and low-speed flow of water, and it also generates power consumption during even sleep mode. In this paper, a low-power consumption wireless digital remote water gauge with a counterflow detection capability is proposed. The proposed water gauge detects the direction and amount of water flow by using the three Hall sensors placed at $120^{\circ}$ intervals with 8-year national standard life durability. The water gauge with three Hall sensors works without error regardless of water speed does not generate power dissipation during sleep mode by presented reading algorithm for bew water gauge. The proposed water gauge is designed to send its ID, current time and counting value to repeater or central control center with specified frequency by RF Module.

  • Sun position computed by Michalsky shows maximum $1.5^{\circ}$, $0.88^{\circ}$ and 2 minutes differences in azimuth, altitude, and sunrise and sunset times respectively compared with Korean Almanac. The 2-axis solar tracking system, which consist control panel with ATmega128 CPU, BLDC motor-cylinder actuator and 2-axis link mechanism, was developed. Computed azimuth and altitude of sun for a current time, and latitude and longitude of tracker position built are controlled in real time by BLDC motor-cylinder actuators comparing with the position feed-backed by Hall sensor. The use of BLDC motor is free in maintenance. Implementation of a home-return function by Hall sensor is to minimize the cumulative error.

  • This paper presents a method for the equivalent-circuit parameters and torque characteristics calculation of squirrel-cage induction motors. The measurment of motor parameters were calculated by the stator resistance test, the blocked rotor test and no load test through T type equivalent-circuit method. Especially, this paper describes the test results obtained by using hall sensor and strain gage for the current and the torque characteristics of induction motors. 1(HP), three-phase squirrel cage induction motor has been used during the test and the parameters are compared with those obtained by the maker parameters of simulation results and experiment.

  • The transient magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) generalized Couette flow with heat transfer through a porous medium of an electrically conducting, viscous, incompressible fluid bounded by two parallel insulating porous plates is studied in the presence of uniform suction and injection and a heat source considering the Hall effect. A uniform and constant pressure gradient is imposed in the axial direction and an externally applied uniform magnetic field as well as a uniform suction and injection are applied in the direction perpendicular to the plates. The two plates are kept at different but constant temperatures while the Joule and viscous dissipations are included in the energy equation. The effect of the Hall current, the porosity of the medium and the uniform suction and injection on both the velocity and temperature distributions is investigated.

  • The discharge current oscillation has been measured for various hollow anode widths and its axial positions using a 1㎾-class anode layer hall thruster. As a result, there were thresholds of magnetic flux density for stable discharge. The plasma structure inside the hollow anode was numerically analyzed using the fully kinetic 2D3V Particle-in-Cell (PIC) and Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) methods. The results reproduced both stable and unstable operation modes. In the stable operation case, which corresponds to the case with low magnetic flux, the plasma penetrated into the hollow anode deeper than the case with higher magnetic flux density case. This suggests that comparably large substantial anode area should contribute to stable operation.

  • This paper describes the speed control system of an induction type ac servomotor drive on the vector control basis of slip frequency and constant secondary flux control for a quick torque response. The system is composed of a digital controller using a SCB-V50 microprocessor and a PWM inverter with power MOSFETs for high speed switching. And, for the measurement of actual instantaneous currents, MDCS A070-051 hall sensors are employed. The rising time of step responce by this system through the test of a 600[W] ac servomotor is 30[ms]. Overall experimental result shows that the drive performance of the system is similar to that of a separately excited armature current control of a dc motior.

  • A low-cost BLDC motor with hall sensor is used to drive the position control of a facility security monitoring system in this paper. Low measurable frequency of the hall sensor signal in low-speed regions results in difficulty in obtaining accurate speed detection and position control. To improve system control performance, we propose a variable gain of position controller and stop mode control scheme according to the motor speed and error position with pre-set deceleration time. The proposed stop mode control scheme is activated around the stop position to forcibly move the BLDC motor to the stop position in low speed. In the proposed stop mode, the motor current is controlled by the actual speed with the reference rotating angle. The control performance of the proposed position control is verified through experiments at the actual rail guided facility security monitoring system.

  • We have investigated Bernal-stacked tetralayer graphene as a function of interlayer distance and perpendicular electric field by using density functional theory calculations. The low-energy band structure was found to be very sensitive to the interlayer distance, undergoing a metal-insulator transition. It can be attributed to the nearest-layer coupling that is more sensitive to the interlayer distance than are the next-nearest-layer couplings. Under a perpendicular electric field above a critical field, six electric-field-induced Dirac cones with mass gaps predicted in tight-binding models were confirmed, however, our density functional theory calculations demonstrate a phase transition to a quantum valley Hall insulator, contrasting to the tight-binding model prediction of an ordinary insulator.
