3-Hydroxybenzopyran[3,2-c]-[1]-benzopyran-6,7-diones (3) and 3-methoxycarbonylcoumarin (4) were prepared via condensation of 1 with resorcinol in the presence of sodium methoxide. The chemical behavior of 3 towards acetic anhydride, alkyl halides and diazonium chloride is described. The electron impact ionization mass spectra of compounds 4,5 and 6a,b show a weak molecular ion peak and a base peak of m/z 89, m/z 280. m/z 91 and m/z 120 resulting from a cleavage fragmentation respectively. The molecular ion of compounds 3, 6b, and 7a is a base peak of m/z 280, m/z 366 and m/z 488 respectively. Compound 7a give a characteristic fragmentation pattern with a two very stable fragmentation of m/z 383 and m/z 77.
The photodissociation dynamics of 1,2-bromochloroethane ($C_2H_4BrCl$) was investigated near 234 nm. A two-dimensional photofragment ion-imaging technique coupled with a [2+1] resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization scheme was utilized to obtain speed and angular distributions of the nascent Br($^2P_{3/2}$) and Br${\ast}($^2P_{1/2}$) atoms. The total translational energy distributions for the Br and Br${\ast}$ channels were well characterized by Gaussian functions with average translational energies of 100 and 84 kJ/mol, respectively. The recoil anisotropies for the Br and Br${\ast}$ channels were measured to be ${\beta}$ = 0.49 ${\pm}$ 0.05 for Br and 1.55 ${\pm}$ 0.05 for Br${\ast}$. The relative quantum yield for Br${\ast}$ was found to be ${\Phi}_{Br{\ast}}$ = 0.33 ${\pm}$ 0.03. The probability of nonadiabatic transition between A' states was estimated to be 0.46. The relevant nonadiabatic dynamics is discussed in terms of interaction between potential energy surfaces in Cs symmetry.

A method for the selective syntheses of alkyl (alkoxymethyl)benzoates from halobenzyl halides by two steps in one pot process is described. In the first step, benzyl halide moiety is etherified with alkoxide anion in alcohol by Williamson ether process. In the second step, aryl halide moiety is carbonylated to give alkyl (alkoxymethyl)benzoate with alcohol, Na$_2$CO$_3$, CH$_3$I, and carbon monoxide (1 atm) in the presence of a catalytic amount of Co$_2$(CO)$_8$ in excellent yield.
Living nature of photoinduced cationic polymerization of isobutyl vinyl ether (IBVE) in the presence of various combinations of diphenyliodonium halide (DPIX), a photocationic initiator and zinc halide $(ZnX_2)$ in methylene chloride has been investigated. Attainment of $100\%$ conversion and a linear relationship between $\%$conversion and number average molar mass of the resulting polymer, strongly suggests the living nature of this system. Livingness of the polymerization system was observed irrespective to the type of halide anion of the initiator and zinc salts unless the reaction temperature is not higher than $-30^{\circ}C$. The rate of polymerization decreases in the order of iodide > bromide > chloride when halide salt of DPIX and $ZnX_2$ are used. It is postulated that the cationic initiation is started by the insertion of weakly basic monomer in to the activated C-X terminal of the monomer adduct which is a reaction product of monomer and HX, a photolytic product of DPIX, formed in situ during the photo-irradiation process. It was concluded that polymerization is initiated by the insertion of weakly basic monomer into activated C- X terminal of monomer adduct due to the pulling action of$ZnX_2$, which successively producing a new polarized C-X terminal for the propagation in cationic nature. This led us to a conclusion that the living nature of this cationic polymerization is ascribable to the polarized C-X growing terminal, which is stable enough to depress the processes of chain transfer or termination process.

CdS synthesized by the chemical bath method at $70^{\circ}C$, has been used as an electron transport layer in the planar structure of the perovskite solar cells. A two-step spin process produced a mixed halide perovskite of $CH_3NH_3PbI_{3-x}Cl_x$ and a mixture of $PbCl_2$ and $PbI_2$ was deposited on CdS, followed by a sub-sequential reaction with MAI ($CH_3NH_3I$). The added $PbCl_2$ to $PbI_2$ in the first spin-step affected the structure, orientation, and shape of lead halides, which varied depending on the content of Cl. A small amount of Cl enhanced the surface morphology and the preferred orientation of $PbI_2$, which led to large and uniform grains of perovskite thin films. In contrast, the high content of Cl produces a new phase PbICl in addition to $PbI_2$, which leads to the small and highly uniform grains of perovskites. An improved surface coverage of perovskite films with the large and uniform grains maximized the performance of perovskite solar cells at 0.1 molar ratio of $PbCl_2$ to $PbI_2$. The depth profiling of elements in both lead halide films and mixed halide perovskite films were measured by Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy, revealing the distribution of chlorine along with the thickness, and providing the basis for the mechanism for enhanced preferred orientation of lead halide and the microstructure of perovskites.

The aim of this review is to communicate some essential knowledge of the underlying mechanism of the corrosion of structural containment alloys during molten salt reactor operation in the context of prospective online monitoring in future MSR installations. The formation of metal halide species and the progression of their concentration in the molten salt do reflect containment corrosion, tracing the depletion of alloying metals at the alloy salt interface will assure safe conditions during reactor operation. Even though the progress of alloying metal halides concentrations in the molten salt do strongly understate actual corrosion rates, their prospective 1st order kinetics followed by near-linearly increase is attributed to homogeneous matrix corrosion. The service life of the structural containment alloy is derived from homogeneous matrix corrosion and near-surface void formation but less so from intergranular cracking (IGC) and pitting corrosion. Online monitoring of corrosion species is of particular interest for molten chloride systems since besides the expected formation of chromium chloride species CrCl2 and CrCl3, other metal chloride species such as FeCl2, FeCl3, MoCl2, MnCl2 and NiCl2 will form, depending on the selected structural alloy. The metal chloride concentrations should follow, after an incubation period of about 10,000 hours, a linear projection with a positive slope and a steady increase of < 1 ppm per day. During the incubation period, metal concentration show 1st order kinetics and increasing linearly with time1/2. Ideally, a linear increase reflects homogeneous matrix corrosion, while a sharp increase in the metal chloride concentration could set a warning flag for potential material failure within the projected service life, e.g. as result of intergranular cracking or pitting corrosion. Continuous monitoring of metal chloride concentrations can therefore provide direct information about the mechanism of the ongoing corrosion scenario and offer valuable information for a timely warning of prospective material failure.

5-Amino-2H-1,2,4-thiadiazoline-3-one has been prepared from 2-thiobiuret through a oxidative cyclization under basic hydrogen peroxide condition. Lactam-lactim tautomerism of 5-amino-2H-1,2,4-thiadiazoline-3-one has been examined by spectroscopic methods and ab initio molecular orbital calculation. These results were shown that 5-amino-2H-1,2,4-thiadiazoline-3-one exists as lactam form. Reaction conditions for alkylating 5-amino-2H-1,2,4-thiadiazoline-3-one with alkyl halides in the presence of various bases were studied in DMF and $H_2O$-THF two phase system. $Li_2CO_3$ base in DMF method gave best result in this investigation. The alkylation has been taken place at N-2 position. The identification of the product is confirmed by spectral data of IR, $^1H$ NMR and $^13C$ NMR and the comparison of authentic sample, 5-amino-2-methyl-1,2,4-thiadiazolidine-3-one, obtained from the oxidative cyclization of 5-methyl-2-thiobiuret.

Response mechanism for the chloride-selective membrane doped with 5, 10, 15, 20-tetraphenyl(porphyrinato)manganase(III) chloride(Mn(TPP)Cl) in PVC/DOS matrix is proposed by examining the visible spectra of the corresponding optode membrane. The visible spectra of Mn(TPP)Cl-doped membrane placed in aqueous solution show that the chloride ligand is easily replaced with water molecule. When other halogen ions, such as $F^-$, $Br^-$ and $I^-$, are added to the sample solution, they replace the water ligand, exhibiting distinctive change in the Soret band of Mn(TPP). On the other hand, bulky anions, such as SCN and salicylate, do not form a bond with the central metal. These results suggests that the potentiometric response of Mn(TPP)-based membrane results either from the ligand exchange (water with halides) at the central metal or from the counter ion exchange (chlorides with bulky lipophilic anions) around the positively charged porphyrin molecule in membrane phase. It was also noted that both hydration enthalpies of anions and their binding constants to Mn(TPP) play critical role in determining the potentiometric selectivity pattern of the membrane.
In order to clarify an effective procedure of labelling organic chloro compounds by $^{38}$ Cl, phenyl chloro derivatives(7 kinds), chloro nitrobenzenes(6 kinds), chloro anisoles(2 kinds), chloro anilines(3 kinds), chloro toluenes(3 kinds), benzyl cholorides(4 kinds), and other comparing samples(3 kinds) were irradiated in the TRIGA Mark-II research reactor and the inorganic $^{38}$ Cl yields were compared with the irradiation times after extracting the inorganic portion with an aqueous solution of alkali. It was found that the relative change between the inorganic $^{38}$ Cl yield and the irradiadiation time depends a great deal on the state of the sample, and a solid sample gave a lower and steady inorganic yield. The inorganic $^{38}$ Cl yield was decreased in the order of phenyl chloro derivatives < chloro tol uene$^{38}$ Cl yield of homo functional compounds and the number of chlorine atoms on the benzene ring. Generally, poly chloro substituted derivatives could give a higher yield than those of less chloro substituted. The results were discussed and the feasibility of these results for labelling purpose was criticized.
Voltammetric behavior of alkylammonium ion was studied in the absence and in the presence of crown ether in propylene carbonate as solvent. The peak potentials and the peak currents, their dependency on the concentrations, the reversibility of the electrode reactions are described. In the presence of crown ether chemical reaction might be preceeded before the electron-transfer process, the peak potential for the reduction shifts at the negative direction as the concentration of crown ether to the electrolyte solution increases. The addition of crown ether(20mM 18CR6)to the electrolyte solution made it possible to determine voltammetrically the dialkylammonium ions($Me_2NH^{+}_{2};O.6{\sim}0.8mM$) in the presence of the monoalkylammonium ions ($EtNH^{+}_{3} ;1.6mM$) and the monoalkylammonium ions ($EtNH^{+}_{3} ; 0.5{\sim}2.5mM$) in the presence of the dialkylammonium ions($Me_2NH^{+}_{2};0.5mM$)
